As The Gold Dragon Caper opens, Damien and Millie Dickens are struggling to keep their Atlantic City detective agency solvent in the face of opposition from Derek J. Turpin, an unscrupulous businessman and real estate developer.

When their office is fire-bombed, the detective duo have no choice but to admit defeat and look for other employment, pulling the couple in opposite directions. While Damien engages in a race against time to rescue a kidnapped boy in Vermont, Millie heads to Las Vegas to track down her missing brother.

Meanwhile, Turpin-now comfortably ensconced in his Las Vegas hotel/casino complex-has set a trap for the detective team. He has taken Millie captive, using her to lure Damien to his death.
