DUKE: Faking the Play: a grumpy sunshine single dad sports romance (The Boston Tomcats Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 745 ratings

#4 Callum Duquette. Placekicker for the Boston Tomcats. Former underwear model. NICKNAME: Duke.

I thought the most annoying thing about being a single dad was that my friends were always trying to find me a date. Until a sassy British ray of sunshine bumps into me at a bookstore. One accidental butt grab, a viral photo, and a lot of misunderstandings later, I find myself in a fake relationship with a movie star.

Now I’ve got my friends off my back, but the cheeky Brit has complicated my life even more.

She calls me the Duke of Grumpville.
I call her movies the end of civilization as we know it.

She calls my job “the wrong kind of football.”
I call her the one thing on Earth that can make me lose focus and control.

It’s getting harder to pretend I still want this to end after my team’s game in London.

I thought we were only faking it.
But getting to know the real Millie Darden changed everything.

Review

Well, grumpy sexy pants Duke might just be our favourite Tomcat to date! We bloody loved this third book in the Boston Tomcats series. A laugh-out-loud grumpy-sunshine, single dad, fake relationship, football sports romance with a delightful British actress love interest. How could we NOT love it! Kayley Loring and Connor Crais have once again, delivered a sexy, funny heartfelt romance. - Totally Booked Blog

I can't think of enough adjectives to describe how much I LOVED
Duke: Faking the Play. The story was so fun and engaging and absolutely delightful. Duke and Millie were playful, flirty, and exuded chemistry in spades. Add in the charming side characters and this is another touchdown in this fantastic series. - Amy W., Goodreads review

OMG this book!.... This dynamic writing duo have an extraordinary ability to draw you into a story you can't help but devour with
wonderful characters, full of laughs, delicious tension, swoon and heart. - Dalitza

This book has some
seriously unexpected heat and a heartwarming ending that made me so hungry. Kayley and Connor made me laugh and cry, AGAIN! - Michaela, Goodreads review

I love a good sports Romance, and with this one I was totally spoiled! Not only was it an
amazing sports romance, but it also combined grumpy/sunshine, single dad, AND fake dating- What else could you ask for?! With all the Notting Hill vibes, the best butt-grab meet cute, and tons of steam, this one is definitely my favorite in The Boston Tomcats series! - Tamara, Goodreads review

Adorable, funny, and wittily written,
Duke is a gem of a sports romantic comedy. There is magic sprinkled in between the pages when Kayley and Connor write together and I always look forward to reading whatever they write as their books just get better and better. - Kay Daniels Romance

A grumpy single dad is my catnip and Duke was everything. He's caring, smart and broody but with the help of a little British sunshine, we get to see all of the amazing qualities of Duke. From the very first meet, I loved Millie so much. She's fun, vibrant and so genuine, I was magically under her spell like Duke. I loved their meet-cute and everything that happened after. Their chemistry was coming off the pages. I could feel it as I read and I loved how their relationship developed from a fake relationship and into something more. - Late Knight Luna Reads

Kayley Loring is one of my favorite authors. Add Connor Crais and more
magic happens.- jenuribe1, BookBub review

Duke is my favorite Loring/Crais written collaboration to date.... It was
sweet and swoony and sooooper sexy!... Duke and Millie are my favorite couple in the Tomcats series. Both are completely charming and endearing and so very easy to root for. When their hearts break, I feel it. And when the inevitable HEA happens, it's a joy to watch them come together. - Angie, BookBub review

This is an incredible story—
funny, sweet and sexya feel good book that will leave you feeling all warm and cozy inside, and smiling uncontrollably throughout. Brilliant. - cath9w, BookBub review

I always know that I was going to love a Kaylee Loring and Connor Crais book but this one wowed me. The scenes and dialogue was outrageously funny. The premise was sweet, the reasons they chose to fake it to begin with. But the sexual tension was there from the start. The authors use of tween Chloe was just so tweenish. Dukes lack of understanding about social media made him seem from a different world. But his concept of the world was different until Millie fell on him. Everyone should have a friend like Millie who laughs and is so in touch with her own self. The speech at her brothers wedding explains her characters self worth. Loved this book but I waited to read it until I had the audiobook. I highly recommend all the audiobooks that Kaylee Loring and Conor Crais put out they are fantastic. But this book will be read over and over because of the fun it has! I wish these characters were real. The writing about love and relationships was so heartfelt. It made me think of the man I love and smile. Thank you this is a brilliant book.

There is a lot to LOVE about this book! It is filled with humorous moments as well as some serious times. I struggled to put this down because I was having such a good time whole reading. I highlighted many passages to enjoy and remember for later. I did love the meet-cute as it is unique and I did not think anything would come of it….but I was wrong.

The characters are adorable! Duke (not a real Duke) is a sexy single dad who happens to be the place kicker for the Tomcats. He has a….lets say grumpy attitude. When he meets Millie…he is not impressed with her at all…he doesn't understand why she is a big deal. Millie is a breath of fresh air! The different names she comes up with to call Duke (in her head) and that fries thing…ew gross!

Overall this is highly enjoyable. The writing team of Kayley and Connor come up with different and fun scenarios for the reader to enjoy. I am not going to lie..I read this with Connor’s voice in my head and I can not wait for the audio as I get to appreciate this on the next level.

How could we have reached the last book of this trilogy already?! The bittersweet feels are hitting me once again as I write this review. I've grown quite attached to these Tomcats and the women who became their game changers. Closing the series out with the story of the team's grumpy placekicker who also happens to be a single father to a preteen that enters into a fake relationship with a British actress from a highly successful movie franchise based on books he loves but then refuses to watch any of the film adaptations much to the disappointment of his daughter who's a fan has turned out to be a stroke of genius from Kayley Loring and Connor Crais. I loved, loved, LOVED Duke and Millie, and Chloe was such an irrepressible--and unapologetic, I'm sure--scene-stealer. Seeing the two main characters go from an accidental "it" couple to figuring out how to be the real deal AND a family had me laughing out loud at times and making my heart clench in empathy in my chest at certain points. Having the rest of the usual suspects make their presence known was an absolute bonus, especially with this being the last book. This book--and this series--has brought such joy to my heart, and while I'm going to miss this cast of characters, I take solace in knowing I can revisit their stories at any time. Duke: Faking the Play gets five stars, and I hope this is not the last from Loring and Crais.

I liked the promise of the book but I felt it lacked chemistry from the leads. I didn’t feel a connection between the characters. I felt Millie gave duke way too many opportunities when he repeatedly hurt her feelings. I also understand a father loving his child and wanting what is best for them however, I felt that in this book, they made dukes daughter seem like she always gets her way. The daughter would get upset at duke and he would get depressed to the 100 degree. The only reason duke and Millie end up together is because Chloe wanted it to happen otherwise he would have never bothered.

Oh boy! This one will have you shivering with desire. Callum "Duke" Duquette is a grumpy 🏈 football kicker god.

Millie Darden is a famous actress after being a childhood star in a famous magical movie series (much like Harry Potter, but not quite HP).

Duke is a devoted single father (who co parents with his ex amazingly well - though she does not appear on paper so it's mostly just implied) who puts his career as a kicker and his daughter before anyone and anything else (even himself).

I absolutely loved this one. I laughed, I swooned and then I laughed some more! 😍
