As the only child of the Laird de Morham, Slaine is expected to marry to increase the family holdings. She longs to make her own choice of a husband but her father has declared that she will marry a man who has already had three young wives. Laird Dougal de Giffard knows that no woman will have him. As the son of the infamous Wizard of Yester, rumors of black magic and necromancy surround him until even strong men avoid him. Ambushed and left for dead just days before Christmas, he’s rescued by the feisty daughter of his neighbor who shows no fear. That is, until the man chosen to be her husband arrives. Seeing the terror in Slaine's eyes raises every one of Dougal’s protective instincts, and he hastily makes her his wife.

Slaine agrees to the marriage of convenience to escape her fate, and finds an honorable warrior in her handsome new husband. She intends to create a happy marriage, and give him his first true Christmas, but first she must break through the thick walls surrounding his heart and discover the secrets buried there. The pain in his eyes draws her as much as the fire in his touch. And with each heated kiss, she plans to show him the love he desperately needs and the magic that Christmas can bring.

But the man intended to be Slaine's husband will not be denied and enlists her father's aid. Dougal is determined protect Slaine at all costs, because now that she's his, he intends to keep her, even if he must do what he swore he never would... continue his father’s legacy.

    Dougal and Slaine are both interesting characters and this author brings them to life with this amazing story. Everyone thought Dougal evil and scary but Slaine knew him for the kind hearted and brave man he was. Their story had me hooked from the start. All the characters are brought to life and you find yourself immersed in their story. I will say Zeph needs a story of his own! Wish this story would have been longer, but the. I wish they all would! I love Ms St James style of writing. If you love history, adventure, a few chuckles and a bit of steam you will want to read this book!!!

    I knew I enjoyed other books by the author and I love Scottish historical, the touches of magic are excellent making the story amazing. Wish there were more with these characters.

    Wow ,what an amazing couple in Dougal and Slaine,this writer brings them to life in this Christmas story .Everyone who knew Dougal and his father thought they were both demons of the devilbut Slaine saw through to his heart for the kind hearted man he really is ,always there for his people to keep them safe and fed .from the first page to the last page this book had me hooked ,awesome read ,highly recommend if you want a great Christmas read ,oh yes not to forget Zeph ,just love ,in my opinion i would love to know his story,would love to give this book a 10.Thank you Aurrora for a amazing read ,loved it.
