    Ich mag eigentlich unheimliche Kurzgeschichten, aber diese haben meinen Geschmack nicht getroffen. Entweder man erahnt den "Twist", der am Ende kommt, schon viele Seiten zu früh (wie in "Detective"), oder es gibt am Schluss gar keine Wendung, keinen Schockmoment, und die Geschichte ist einfach irgendwann unmotiviert aus...
    Der Autor versucht sich in durchaus verschiedenen Variationen von "dark short stories" (eine SciFi-Geschichte; eine Geistergeschichte; eine Art geschriebener, aber sehr repetitiv verfasster Splatter-Film,...), aber keine ist meiner Meinung nach besonders gut gelungen, raffiniert oder gruselig (grauslich manchmal schon, oder verwirrend). Die Protagonisten darin bleiben alle schablonenhaft und wirken unecht - die Kinder reden z.B. durchwegs gestelzt und seltsam, sodass man schon glaubt, wahrscheinlich läuft die Geschichte darauf hinaus, dass sie besessen sind oder sonst etwas mit ihnen nicht stimmt... aber dann stehen diese Eigenartigkeiten in keinem Zusammenhang mit der weiteren Handlung.
    Schade, das war nichts für mich. Ich bleibe wohl besser bei Poe, Joel Lane, oder Angela Carter...

    This is a diverse collection of dark, short stories. Atmospheric, unsettling, and spooky tales. If you like H. P. Lovecraft (think Cthulhu), Edgar Allan Poe, James Herbert, and Stephen King, you will feel at home here. Other worldly, brooding, and cinematic at times (think Alfred Hitchcock). Each of these stories will take you on a journey and will lead you off the beaten path. They explore a variety of themes: loss, fear, passage of time, revenge, dystopia, relationships, death, crime, friendship, horror, the supernatural... and more. Thought provoking and unsettling... if you like your fiction dark and edgy, then this collection is for you.
