Deacon (Saints vs Sinners Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

3.6 out of 5 stars 76 ratings

Deacon Saint

My father told me once that anything that gets your blood racing is worth the risk doing. I don’t factor in the tragic loss of my best friend, find out my mamma has Alzheimer’s, and reconnect with a girl who broke my heart all those years ago.

Coming back to Alama, Tennessee—after ten years gone—leaving behind a MotoGP racing career, I’d have to face the trials set before me by family, friends, and the girl I’ve always loved. I’d rather take on the track, lose skin, break bones, and tear muscle than face the changes rutted in my life.

Olivia Bane

I thought my life was perfect. Working as a nurse, a doctor-boyfriend, and friends I cherish dearly. Then Deacon Saint comes back home and my ideal life shifts to utter chaos. My boyfriend’s a monster. I almost lost my job and I’m faced with losing my heart again to the racer that broke it in the first place.

Deacon shattered me once, and now he thinks it’s water under the bridge. It’s going to take more than smooth talkin’, fast motorcycles, and good old Southern country charm to win me back.

Warning: Triggers of physical assault.

Deacon is back home in Alama where he has to contend with several unnerving things that throw chaos into his life. Can he man up and confront his past as he grapples with grabbing hold of the future he longs for? Slap on your helmet, grasp the handlebars, and lean in…it’s going to be a wild ride with small town angst, and spicy interludes with all the feels.

I loved this story so much, small town, bikes, hot men, and some mystery. A second chance to get the girl, mistakes were made but when they come back together... fire, passion and tension. Loved it.

One of Deacon's best friends died. Deacon comes home for the funeral. Olivia was the love that he thought betrayed him. Their story is poignant and full of mystery. Also lots of action. I recommend you get this book and start reading... From a New Fan... Pam James.

I liked the idea of the story, but it was all over the place.

A Lot of errors and mixing up names. I reported the errors.

This one is a powerful book that makes you come to terms with what the characters experience in your own life. It definitely brought tears to my eyes at multiple points in the book and yet I couldn’t stop reading. I just needed to know what happened next.

Deacon who left his home town and never looked back to pursue his career in racing returns home battered and a little more broken than when he left. He returns to attend his best friend's funeral and figure out just what to do with his life and that of his mother who has been diagnosed with alzheimers. As if that is not enough on his plate he runs into the one person who turned him inside out in the past and left a bitter, angry taste in his mouth, Olivia. Meanwhile, Olivia has found herself a new life after the heartbreak of the past. She is a nurse in Nashville, with a pediatric doctor as her boyfriend, all the pieces seem to be falling in line for her. That is until a trip home for a friend’s funeral makes her confront the one person who broke her heart and left without a word. The longer Deacon and Olivia spend in their home town of Alama the more problems come their way. With so many trials and tribulations will they ever find their happily ever after? Can the past really be forgiven or is there too much water under the bridge to move past?

There was a lot of action packed into this book and plenty of cliff hangers. Most of which were answered in the end but there are several openings for the author to close in books about the other characters. There are also highly difficult topics confronted in this book like physical assault, sexual assault, and dealing with a loved one that has alzheimers. Most people have faced these topics as they happened to them or someone they loved and the author does a great job with showing care in how they are presented while remaining true to the characters' experience. This was a fantastic novel and I will wait with bated breath to see about following future release dates from this author in this series. After all, I would like to close the rest of the cliffhangers left open in this book!

I received an Advanced Reader Copy and am voluntarily reviewing it. Great start to a hopefully great series. Deacon Saint is back in his hometown of Alama, Tennessee after 10 years. He left heartbroken to come back to a funeral for one of his closest friends. Randy was the glue that held the Disciples together. Deacon found that his life in Alama needed some serious work. His mom was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s and is fading fast. Deacon has just recovered from a career ending crash and is contemplating a new job in California. But can he leave his life in Alama again?

Olivia Bane was still had feelings for Deacon Saint even though he left without saying goodbye 10 years ago. Can they at least be friends? It’s hard to be friends with someone that you want with every fiber of your being. A person that has been in a committed relationship with Dr. Christopher Martin for two years and lived in Nashville. She was in town to also clean out her childhood home so she could sell it. Can she wrap up her business in Alama and with Deacon to return to her life in Nashville?

Things keep happening in Alama that don’t make sense, bikes damaged, barns burned down. Does Deacon return have something to do with the outbreak of crimes? This book has a lot going on and will keep readers interest until the very end. This book also leaves readers wanting know more about this little country town and the rag-tag group of Disciples. Will there be a happy ending for Olivia and Deacon? This book is definitely worth reading to find out.

Deacon suffered in his life, more than most all he needs to do is escape the town he grew up in. Years later he is brought back to his hometown to bury his best friend but hopefully he does not dig up old memories.

Olivia was broken when Deacon left one night forever wondering if their friendship ever was as solid as she thought, but time has passed, and she moved away and made a life for herself but coming back home will hurt especially if she sees him.

Once they meet up old feelings and insecurities come flooding back but with the pressures, they are both under can they rekindle what they had lost years before.

This is the first book I have read by this author and OMG what a book to start with. The story was well written and fully of emotion in each chapter written. I loved these two main characters and the emotional struggle they have been through with each other and apart and that they are a little jade around the edges but still truly believe they can be there for each other.

The story around the struggles with his mother’s Alzheimer’s is thought provoking and written with dignity and empathy and you are drawn into the decisions he must make. This story is about survival and strength and with the story meandering through with twists and turns, cliff hangers I can not wait to read the next book in this series.
