DECKER: Changing the Play: an enemies to lovers workplace sports romance (The Boston Tomcats Book 1) Kindle Edition
I don’t know which is worse—the fact that our beloved Tomcats owner left the team to his estranged daughter, that she’s a finance nerd from New York who knows less than nothing about football…or that I mistook her for a secretary when we first met. In my defense, she thought I was the equipment guy.
She’s stubborn, uptight, infuriating, looks way too good in a skirt, and she’s wrong about absolutely everything—from pizza to how to run my team.
We have to learn to work together without kissing or strangling each other.
But I can’t stop arguing with her.
Even while I’m discovering how good she looks out of a skirt.
Even when I’m realizing she might be right about some things after all.
I thought I had a winning play.
But Hannah Strong changed everything.

Review
The banter and chemistry between these two was on fire. They were hilarious together and steamed up the pages. I loved watching their relationship develop from enemies to lovers. It was perfection!! I cannot recommend this book enough. Full of steam and heartwarming emotion, it's impossible to put down. I can't wait to read about other members of the Tomcats!! ~ Amy, Goodreads
Summing it up: Decker, the book, and Decker, the quarterback, are both perfect... The tension that comes from two people who are attracted to each other but not willing to give in is insane. Until they do give in to it... They fit together perfectly... In fact, the two of them together may be couple goals... There's steamy and funny banter, innuendo, double entendres, eye rolling. You know, all my favorite things. ~ JerseyGirlsBookshelf
Decker is sooooo good! He's perfect book boyfriend material! I already know Kayley's voice really well and it blends seamlessly with Connor's. I am particularly impressed that I wasn't bored with the football talk! Seriously! I was engrossed in the story and was even rooting for the Tomcats!... So, if you don't care for sports like me, but love a good story, by all means dive into this one. ~ The Accidental Romance Blogger
What a great debut book from the newly-formed writing duo of author Kayley Loring and narrator/author Connor Crais. I wasn't sure what to expect when they announced their collaboration as romance novels from male/female writing partners are oftentimes hit or miss. This partnership is a definite hit! ~ Not Now I'm Reading
This book was a hoot. I got a big kick out of the hilarious bantering and bickering. Decker and Hannah are adorable together, and I loved the way their feelings developed as they got to know each other better. And, their chemistry jumps off the page anytime they are in a scene together.
If you love humor with your steamy sports romance, read Decker: Changing the Play immediately. ~ Alyssa, Goodreads
Decker: Changing The Play is an unputdownable, sweet and sexy, read. It touches upon some of my favorite tropes: Enemies to Lovers - Workplace - Sports
The chemistry between Decker (The Panty Wrecker) and Hannah (Could Use A Banana) was hot and every single one of their interactions was incredibly sexy and seriously funny. I found myself giggling and sighing in equal parts and could not wait to see them get their happily ever after! ~ JudyAnnLovesBooks
Decker: Changing the Play had all the fun, amazing banter I've come to expect from Kayley's books but the addition of Connor had a masculine, rougher edge to the story that just worked. ~ Coffee and the Bibliophile
I devoured this book and loved every second! This author duo is dynamite and I can't wait for more! ~ AnnMarie - Alphas Do It Better Book Blog
You'd think these two have been writing together for years this book was so well done. There was never a point I thought, this sounds exactly like a man, or this is specifically Kayley's writing. It's flawless and perfectly executed. All the charm, cuteness, and lovable qualities that bring me back to Loring's books over and over again was still there, but there was also this extra sprinkle on top that I'm guessing was the Connor factor. ~ Kay Daniels Romance

About the authors
Amazon Top 25 and USA Today bestselling author Kayley Loring spent many years as a screenwriter (under a different name) in Los Angeles before moving to the Pacific Northwest to live out her childhood dream of being a Disney heroine who talks and sings to woodland creatures. When not trying to keep animals alive, she’s writing steamy romantic comedy novels, obviously. She’s breathing cleaner air, writing dirtier words, and staring at her computer screen until her eyeballs dry out instead of prancing around Southern California in miniskirts and going to the hair salon. Still waiting for the woodland creatures to clean her house, though.
Read or listen to Kayley’s books when you want to laugh, warm your heart, and enjoy top-notch banter, strong heroines who need to be chased, lovable characters you’d want to know in real life, and swoon over perfectly imperfect book boyfriends.

Connor Crais is an Audie Award-winning classically trained actor living in the Midwest with his wife and three young kids. He has been both a stage and television actor, and before plunging into the romance genre, he had been narrating commercials, audiobooks, and explainers for well over a decade from his home studio. From alphas to bosses to cocky sports stars (a particular favorite), he loves sparring with beautiful, sassy heroines (and their talented narrators) but also loves winning them over and reaching that happily ever after. He is excited to now be an Amazon Top 100 bestselling author.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2022Sign me up for more from this writing duo – this was a great series starter. I’ve been a longtime fan of Loring’s writing and Crais’ voice, so I couldn’t wait to see what their first book together was like. And it was good! This definitely felt like it had a little more male influence, with a LOT of focus on football (perhaps too much), and a hero who felt complex and well developed. The vibe is similar to Loring’s other work (low angst and sexy), though with less humor and more heart. I really liked all of the characters that were introduced, and I’m excited for more from the series. It has that classic sports romance feel, and I’m already envisioning some of the other players’ love stories. I didn’t necessarily enjoy this as much as Loring’s other books, but I have the feeling this duo will settle into something really good soon.
The story follows Decker, the aging quarterback (36) of a pro football team. He’s a former playboy who has settled down over the years, but no woman has ever been a match to his love of football. So when the team’s owner passes away and his daughter takes over, it’s a huge shock to Decker’s system. Not only does he have a new boss, but Hannah (29) is also incredibly sexy and tempting enough to distract him from the game. Hannah also knows nothing about football, so the veteran player finds himself spending a lot of time with her… both on and off the field.
I can always count on Loring for low angst romances with big feels, and that vibe remains with this. It’s light and easy to devour in one sitting, with plenty of steam and compelling characters. For me, there was too much football talk. It made the banter feel a little less playful than usual, and I didn’t fully feel the spark between these two – even though they do heat up the sheets. That could also be because Decker kept bringing up his playboy past, but I liked him overall. This felt very much like other sports romances I’ve read over the years (let’s be honest, hot girl inheriting a sports team is basically its own trope), but there was just enough playfulness and heat to separate this from the pack. It was a strong 4/low 5-star read for me, and I’m absolutely looking forward to checking out more from the series. Don’t judge this book by its (terrible) cover – this was a very solid read.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2022~*~ Audio Review ~*~
I loved every moment of Decker and Hannah’s book. Kayley and Connor writing really flowed together and they gave us a fun and sexy story that I didn’t want to put down. Hannah finds herself in new territory when she inherits her fathers football team after the fathers sudden death. Johnny Decker is the star quarterback of the team and gives Hannah crap every time he can. I found myself laughing out loud several times. Despite their constant fighting these two have great chemistry and I love that the way he helped her navigating her new world in football.
The audiobook made it so much more fun and it was performed in duet. Mackenzie Cartwright and Connor were perfect at bringing Hannah and Decker to life and I loved the back and forth they had in the text messages. Ava Lucas and Ron Butler were wonderful additions as Hannah and Decker’s best friends and additional characters.
This was a great sports romance and I am looking forward to more of Kayley and Connor’s writing.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2022I never thought I’d be interested in football, until I read this book. It isn’t just a useful background for the romance, it’s really at the core of the story. It wouldn’t be the same book if it was another sport, or even another setting entirely.
First of all, the co-writing here was a great idea, and the authors’ writing styles work well together. The characters have a distinctive voice, but the authors have a common sense of humor, which helped with creating a continuity in the book. All in all the co-writing was evident, yet with smooth transitions. Well done.
The characters were quite compelling. Maybe Hannah was a little too quirky, and Decker’s past as the ‘panty-wrecker’ didn’t have as much weight in the story as it was suggested, but they made a great duo together. When they were enemies, the confrontations felt real; when they became lovers, the playful banter was great. And the chemistry, wow–sexual tension dripped from the pages.
Everything about football was meaningful and interesting. The fans’ involvement, the press’s coverage, the inner politics, the team’s dynamics, the game’s rules… It all influenced the story and the characters’ reactions. Even the conflict that threatens Hannah and Decker’s relationship comes from football. And, of course, the forbidden element of their romance is really the consequence of their respective place in the team.
As the first book in a new series, a lot of characters were introduced, and they didn’t have a lot of time to develop. But we still get enough information about them–and enought interactions–to get a feel of who they are. The rest of the series promises to be interesting.
A good romance, and a good first collaboration. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the read
I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun read and I learnt a thing or two about American Football! It had an engaging story line with humour and romance. I am a big fan of Kayley Loring and have read most of her books and Connor Crais as a narrator and now as an author too. I can’t wait to read their next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Touchdown for this Football romance!
Well played, Team #CraisyLoring, well played! They tackled, they huddled, they threw a curl here and a hook there, were passing the play and hit a Touchdown! This book is flirty, so smexy super cute, super fun, full of feels and I just FLOVE it! I could hear both Kayley & Connor's writing voices and it just flows and gels together perfectly! The story is filled with all the sassy, tantalising banter, fun text messages & dialogues, and dang, it’s not short on steam and spice either! There are parts that are so beautiful and had me well up, but those emotions turned into laughter a few seconds later. Johnny Decker, tall, tattooed, handsome may just be my new favorite book boyfriend, and Hannah, well many of us are her and can definitely relate, as like her, I am clueless about American Football when it comes to rules and the play but I love the game they are playing and I am sure, you will fall in love with Hannah and her panty wrecker just as much as I did.
This is Connor Crais debut as author and I believe I was able to hear the parts he wrote in my head and call me impressed, not only is he a very talented narrator, he also got it going on in the writing department. I already love Kayley Loring's writing style and it is one of my favorites in RomCom but now combined with Connors – Game Changer! Connor and Kayley make a great dynamic writer team and I cannot wait for what else they delight our eyes and ears with, in the future! Excited for more and to experience Decker & Hannah's story again in audio.
I was lucky to receive an Advance Reader Copy for Decker and I cannot recommend this book enough because it's just an incredibly fun read and highly entertaining!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant sports romance with humour and heat
Kayley Loring is a one-click author for me. Her writing is snort-laugh hilarious, smart, sweet and steamy, and she's also a fabulously funny human being. But now she's writing with a hot male voice artist FOR REALZ who has never published anything before... Say whhhuuuuut??? Connor Crais has been narrating Kayley's books for a while, and when he mentioned he was writing a romance himself, she suggested they write together. DECKER: Changing the Play is their first collaboration and girl, oh girl, oh girl, they've kicked the winning field goal in the last second of the fourth quarter. I was sold from the first page and the only reason I didn't finish it in one sitting was that unavoidable bodily functions got in the way.
The story centres around Johnny Decker, the star quarterback for the Boston Tomcats who is at the end of his career and desperate for one more chance at a Super Bowl win. When the owner of his team unexpectedly dies, in walks his estranged daughter, Hannah Strong, to take over. Misunderstandings and sparks fly when they meet, and then the game begins... If you don't know the first thing about football (or American football for everyone outside North America), then you are in safe hands. By her own admission, Kayley knows less than you, and her character Hannah is in the same boat. Due to the fact that my (British) husband is a football nut, I know enough about the game to know that the sports stuff is not only extremely accurate, but also works brilliantly for the evolution of the story. In particular, the twist was absolutely perfect and gave the story and characters even more depth. Loring and Crais's collaboration is incredible and there is no way to tell who has written what in this book. DECKER: Changing the Play is a seamlessly awesome romantic comedy and I absolutely loved it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A terrific sports romance
The only way this book would be better would be if it was about hockey. 😉
Clever banter, intelligent writing, engaging characters and enough technical football detail to add verisimilitude. Hannah and Decker’s chemistry sizzles off the page, so although their relationship is all-in so quickly, it’s believable.
Hannah’s journey from ignorance to maven was hugely entertaining. As satisfying was her making her way so successfully in a man’s world. When she takes all her newly acquired knowledge and love and sacrifices both her teams for Decker, this light-hearted romance threw some big feels.
If you enjoy sports romance, this is a definite winner.
