4.4 out of 5 stars 89 ratings

The Devil's Third weaves an enchanting conclusion that spans continents and millennia. In a rainy, misty town filled with moss-covered trees and dwarfed by wooded mountains, Astoria, Oregon, holds many secrets and eighteen-year-old Paige Reed is one of them. She has magical abilities she's discovering and harbors a power inside her that the leader of the dark spirits desperately craves. Her problems start to mount when her best friend slips into a coma. Paige must tap into her newfound powers to save her, but she's unsure how to use them. Through this ordeal, the leader who once commanded a legion of black souls forces Paige to make a pact with him, causing her to abandon the ones she loves. But Paige has a plan. It's risky. It's reckless. It might work. If it does, she'll have the power to enslave the dark spirits. If she fails, she'll lose everything and the world will fall into the hands of malevolent beings. ~Reader reviews~ "Rebekkah Ford does it again. Fantastic Read!" "More! More!" Rebekkah Ford did it again! I loved this book!

The Devil’s Third begins where Dark Spirits left off. Eighteen-year-old Paige Reed is on a quest to find King Solomon’s incantations. Whomever possesses the power of his ring and the incantations, can control the dark spirits.

This Beyond the Eyes trilogy creates a new mythology that’s captivating and believable. Book one (Beyond the Eyes) hooks you in. The second book (Dark Spirits) is full of action and suspense and shows Paige adjusting to her new life and relationship with Nathan. You cannot turn the pages fast enough. The Devil’s Third takes the reader on an enchanting journey with Paige and her friends where magic and tough decisions are made. You feel as if you’re actually there.

At the beginning of this book, Paige discovers what she truly is, and it’s shocking. Then her best friend Carrie reveals a heartbreaking problem before getting into an accident which throws her into a comatose state. Paige who is unsure about her abilities, must use magic to save Carrie from a horrible fate. Paige is also confronted by Bael—the oldest dark spirit of them all - the one who has been seeking Solomon’s power for thousands of years. He forces her into a deal with him and since Tree (A.K.A. Jack) is there at the time, he’s backed into a corner with Paige.

At the beginning of this trilogy, Paige’s character seems like a crying, selfish, teenager. But she’s a teenage girl who went through a lot in her short life. I remembered being her age and how fragile my emotions were, and I didn’t have near the problems she had. But throughout this trilogy, her character grows into a strong kickass fighter against evil. (Sort of reminds me of Luke Skywalker's growth from a naive farm boy who complains about wanting more in life, to the fierce Jedi he becomes bringing balance to the galaxy.) She’s fiercely loyal to her friends and it shows in The Devil’s Third. But then there’s her ex-boyfriend Brayden. She still loves him; however, she has said several times that she’s not in love with him. She’s in love with Nathan.

In Beyond the Eyes, Brayden violates Paige in such a way that a lot of people would find unforgivable. And although Brayden wholeheartedly believes he and Paige belong together and is relentless about it, Paige will not shut him completely out of her life. Some readers might be frustrated about this, but I can see why Paige still has a soft spot for him. They knew each other since they were in preschool, Brayden helped her through hard times, and they grew up together, are best friends and dated. Not to mention, Paige still sees good in Brayden. In Dark Spirits and The Devil’s Third, Brayden’s behavior becomes questionable on which side he’s on. Good or bad? But towards the end of The Devil’s Third, Paige tells Brayden something that I wanted to pat her on the back for.

I have to say, The Devil’s Third is full of surprises and ties everything together beautifully. The reader gets to find out what the Devil’s third is and so much more. Rebekkah Ford takes the reader with Paige and the gang across the Atlantic into the bowels of ancient Africa. She weaves magic and superstition that is both gripping and startling in a sense to where you didn’t see that one coming and want to know more kind of thing.

There are wonderful twists and turns throughout this trilogy that will leave you breathless and wanting more. The mythology Rebekkah created is believable and makes me wonder if there are soulless people walking among societies, and if there are dark entities dwelling in them. Also using the history of Solomon’s ring, power and other things as well (I don’t want to spoil it for you), is brilliant. It makes the whole concept in the Beyond the Eyes trilogy hauntingly real. Also, some of the characters are endearing and fun, while others make you instantly not like them. They’re all three dimensional, and Rebekkah did an excellent job creating them.

The Devil’s Third is a wonderful and tantalizing third book in the Beyond the Eyes trilogy. I didn’t want to put it down and hope Rebekkah will continue on with this fantastical trilogy. I definitely would recommend it to people who are into paranormal/fantasy books.

While this series has a few flaws, including persistent mild editing issues, the plot is intriguing and shows either very good research or personal knowledge of magical lore and legend. Her take on all these things is unique and interesting. My only other caveat? This is YA, but seriously with emphasis on the ADULT part of YA. There is sex and while it is tasteful and occurs in a committed relationship, many parents would reserve this series to much older teens. Personally, I feel that the emphasis on goodness and light work and the general morality of the main characters far outweigh any problems here, but even I would suggest 15 or 16 and up.

Wow. This series has me hooked. Between Paige & Natians love and Tree & Carries it just keeps getting better and better. I read her 2nd and 3rd books in less then a month. I could not out it down. And that's not like me at all. Something about this series makes you want more and more of it to come. Like I said I was never a reader of this style of book but I'm totally hooked now. Can not wait to read Tangled Root's next.

Having thoroughly enjoyed the relationships and adventures in the first two book, I was eagerly anticipating this one and can't believe I forgot to review it! The thing I liked best is that there's room for a spin-off--this doesn't have to be goodbye to the characters that we've followed through the series!!

Carrie, Nathan, Tree and Paige continue their quest to defeat Bael and the dark spirits. Paige is something no one understands, until her dead grandmother explained why she has a light. Solomon's ring no longer shines, because of something Carrie's grandmother Kora did.

Carrie learns about her strengths and weaknesses and who she truly loves. Although Brayden continues to interject himself into her life and Nathan's, Carrie moved forward. She learns along the way. She is also guided.

Read this ending to this part of her life.....But the story continues.

    Read on my friends.

The storyline keeps you intrigued to find out wot happens next and you will find yourself up to all hours reading.

Well done Rebekkah Ford, take a bow.
