Devious Eyes (A Cane Novel Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 128 ratings

"You think I’m a hooker?"
The fiercely brooding guy I met at the bar needed to check his a-hole behaviour. Still, he fast turned into the distraction I needed from my life. But it wasn’t romance. Couldn’t be. Running was my MO. This time I'm hiding in paradise, hoping I can stay alive, and trying to ignore the one person I’ve never been able to — my brother.
The problem is, I didn't know who Nate Cane really was, and I didn’t know what was coming for me either.

“You try it again, and I’m done.”
That's what I said to my brother when he challenged me. I meant every damn word. This time it’s my rules. My life. My game.
Screw loyalty.
But the woman I met at that bar hid her devious eyes from me. She wasn’t who I thought, and life has a way of determining your future, no matter the odds. Gabriella Alves might have started as a calculated fling — dirty, far from innocent, and mine — but then hell came after her and invaded my world. And a Cane always protects what’s his.
Odds be damned.

Loyalty. Family. Dark. Romance.

This book is intended for mature audiences. 18+ only.

great author duo
This author duo is something that i always remember. I love how when duos meet, you can't tell one from the other because their styles mesh so amazingly that it's difficult to know which author wrote which part and whether or not they switched characters mid way. I've read the previous book to this series, the introduction, and i was captivated and very curious on where they would go from that point on, knowing that it was a darker and mafia themed story line. By the time that i had gotten my hands on the second instalment, i had gone back and reread some parts of the first book so that i knew what i was getting myself into. So i would be prepared. Devious Eyes was very different from Innocent Eyes. I was expecting much of what i felt and read during that first book, only to come to realize that Devious Eyes was nothing like it. It wasn't as dark, nor was the dynamic between these two characters the same. Here you have a professional thief and a Mafia accountant and in some ways, on the same playing field, and i think, considering the dynamic i read in the first book, i was a bit disappointed. It became more difficult to connect with the story and even with the characters and, as much as i wish i could say otherwise, i think that the fact that i was expecting something different had a huge impact on how i enjoyed the story. It doesn't mean that because i wasn't 100% on board on how the story was developed that someone else won't find it incredibly fascinating and engaging. I think that knowing what i know now, i'll have to go back later in time and hope that my experience will be different. *ARC provided by Author in exchange for an honest review. Nathan Cane and Gabriella get 5 stars easily. Who knew he had it in him!? There were parts of this book that had me holding my breath. I definitely lost sleep, trying to put the book down at night but finding it impossible at times.

Okay, so I have to say I enjoyed the first book, "Innocent Eyes." I didn't give anything major away in the review I wrote and I won't in this one either. But I do have to say that there is a significant scene in the first book that becomes a concern in this one. And I have to say that it bothered me at times that Nate acted the way he did towards Emily. She wasn't in this book so she couldn't even defend herself, and I found Quinn to be almost a different character than the harda$$ he was in his book.

So, on to Devious Eyes. Nate meets his match in Gabby. A diamond thief and in this life herself she is hiding out from a job gone wrong when she meets Nate on vacation. These two have instant chemistry, but with all the history they are hiding from each other, will they be able to get past them?

There are twists, turns, and a new player in the game with the Canes when you read this book. I enjoyed the story between Nate and Gabby. They are a great match. But again when the past is brought up, or Quinn enters, I had mixed feelings on how Nate dealt with it. But that is my problem.

As I've come to expect from these two authors, this was yet another brilliant five star read. The characters these women create have a depth seldom seen anywhere else. You can't help but put yourself in the story, and hence you almost instantly get lost in it. I cant wait to see what they come up with next for us to read about involving these wicked beautiful men!!

Devious Eyes (A Cane Novel 2)
By Charlotte E. Hart and Rachel De Lune
    5 stars

Another amazing read from this fantastic, talented writing duo! I wasn’t sure they could top Innocent Eyes, I mean come on Quinn was just amazing to read about and Nate I’ll be honest I wasn’t so sure about. I was worried I would get that raw, dark, grittiness that I got from Quinn’s story but I was so, so wrong! Whilst he isn’t as ‘dark’ as Quinn he does have a different but equally as appealing quality about him that makes you think there is so much more to him than you originally thought. I’m going to go even as far as to say that Nate may have just pushed Quinn off the top spot in the Cane Brothers competition! He was kind, caring, and level headed but he had that fierce protectiveness that clearly runs in the Cane family. With every great male main character there has to be an equally as good female, Quinn had Emily; Nate has Gabby and what a female lead she was! She was strong in her own right, she had her own secrets, she had her own family issues to deal with but when she and Nate were together they just lit the story on fire! I loved every second of their story, from their very first meeting until the end of the story I was captivated by the two of them.
Alongside the amazing characters we have the beautiful setting that some of the story takes place in, the authors really brought this story to life with their beautiful descriptions of Bora Bora, and I almost felt like I was right there relaxing with these characters!
The differing writing styles that these two authors have really do complement each other well, so much so that unless you have read their separate work it’s hard to tell who has written which chapter.
Oh and there’s book 3 to look forward too! Bring it on!!! #CaneBrothersForever

    Nate Cane.
I had no idea where to go with this review.
So compared to Innocent Eyes - Quinn’s book. This starts off a lot slower than I expected it to. But still I enjoyed the push and pull of Nate and Gabby. How freaking hot they are together. I loved their carefree behaviour even though they were both running from something.
Then it hit 35% and BOOM! Action. Violence. Blood.
Nate Cane is possessive and domineering without the whole bombastic attitude of Quinn. Bloody love him! I do love their dynamic though. Brothers in every sense of the word but so different in every other way!
Then we have Gabriella Alves. Cunning. Beautiful. And brave. And gives Nate a run for his money and stands up
    To Quinn.
If you’ve not started this series yet then DO IT TODAY. It’ll have you ignoring the rest of the world for a few hours while you sink into the world of Cane.
I can’t wait to see how they rule from here on out now they’re both on the same page.
    Fantastic series!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a belter!

Oooh, it's always the quiet ones isnt it!?
Nate Cane, financial brain behind the outfit, younger brother and second in command to the all powerful, dominant, slightly crazy Quinn...who'd have thought his story could be so alluring?!

I was really excited for this second book by Charlotte E Hart and Rachel De Lune. Innocent Eyes swept me away and left me wanting so much more from the Cane brothers. I can definitely say that i was not disappointed.

Once again, this duo have used their individual writing styles to take the reader on an emotional ride. There are high points, containing the fast paced, angry, dark writing styles of Hart which are quickly followed by the softer, more steady and romantic style of De Lune. But having said that, this time around there is also a noticeable shift in styles, they have most obviously learnt a think or two from each other over the course of their partnership.
The pair have successfully portrayed the pace of the characters lives within their words. The dangerous world of the Cane's feel angry, angsty and rampant while the island Bora Bora is relaxed, easy going and fun.

This story has got a brilliant flow to it, the ups and downs, the heartache, heartbreak and lighthearted moments come at you in swarms.
It starts with a bang but most certainly does not end in a whimper.
These two authors are pulling all the stops with this series and book 3 is going to be one hell of a belter!

I loved the first book in the Cane Series, so I was really looking forward to reading Devious Eyes and it didn't disappoint! I couldn't put the book down!!!
Nothing was as it seemed. Grabriella was perfect. A real independent and strong woman. She makes herself scarce and vanishes off to an island haven. There she meets Nathan Cane. Younger brother of Quinn. Accountant for the family.
But both of them have secrets and when they start to catch up and put danger in their paths, you can bet things are going to get very hot. Very fast!
And all will learn the value of "family"...
