Two Connected Murders
Deceitful Effort For Detective Rebecca Watson
The investigation of two murders becomes an emotional and deceitful effort for Detective Rebecca Watson. Her mother is probably complicit in the murder. She learns about a possible and strange family’s murder-suicide under the Witness Protection Program, a state or federal program designed to protect prosecution witnesses in serious criminal cases, especially from bodily injury or tampering, by aiding in establishing a new identity in a new location.
The novel’s interesting twist arrives when Detective Rebecca Watson uncovers a young woman's body through two Eugene Falls College students beneath a pile of leaves; she is plunged further into a pit of sorrow. This new gruesome tragedy adds further complication to her already burdened psyche as she works to solve the secrets behind the murder-suicide of the Witness Protection Program family. The investigation's emotional toll becomes too much for Watson to bear, as she begins to doubt her ability to do her job as a detective.
The novel creates a web of suspense so complex that its readers feel completely immersed in a universe where nothing is as it seems. The homicide of the family members only added fuel to the fire by exposing the truth that they had been protected as witnesses under the Witness Protection Program. Readers of this captivating mystery will be captivated till the end as they try to piece together the puzzle pieces. The plot intensifies as Watson investigates further, with surprising turns that increase tension and leave readers wanting more.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2023As an avid reader of thrillers, I am always on the lookout for a book that will keep me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. "Girl in the Leaves" did just that. This book is a rollercoaster ride of unexpected twists and turns that kept me guessing until the very end. The fast-paced and engaging plot is expertly crafted, and the tension and emotional weight of the story make it impossible to put down.
One of the aspects of the book that I loved was the well-developed characters. Detective Rebecca Watson is a strong female protagonist who is determined to get to the bottom of the cases she is working on. Her emotional journey throughout the book is incredibly compelling and makes her feel like a real person, not just a character in a book.
The vivid descriptions of the crimes and investigations make the story feel incredibly real. The dialogue is also excellent, adding depth to the characters and moving the story forward.
Overall, "Girl in the Leaves" is a twisted, thrilling, and expertly crafted novel that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a great read. If you're a fan of crime fiction and police procedurals, this book is a must-read.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2023“Girl in the Leaves” by James Glass is another great read in the Rebecca Watson mystery series. In this novel, Detective Rebecca Watson has to deal with traumatic events in her own family, as well as the terrifying thought that her own mother may be involved. Following a murder-suicide event and the discovery of a dead woman’s body in a pile of leaves, Watson’s investigation becomes so fraught with personal emotion that she questions her ability to continue.
The character of Rebecca Watson is compellingly written and her trauma is believable. The author does a good job of moving the story along while building characterisation. Fans of murder mysteries should definitely give this book a try.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2023Detective Rebecca Watson is struggling. Her aunts - her centering point, her lodestone if you will, since childhood are out of the country. She and Tony Francisco, her partner (in every sense), land two cases - one horrifically involving children, the other a young girl whose family can’t seem to catch a break. In the midst of it all, and further playing with her mind, is the fear that her estranged mother will evade justice for the murder of her father.
This is the third in the James Glass series in which Rebecca Watson’s military training meshes well with her current career as a detective. I didn’t, however, get a proper feel on Tony in the personal or professional arena. In any good partnership, there is give and take depending on abilities and experience. In my opinion, his voice didn’t appear to come through enough. I must admit that I also missed the quirkiness of the aunts evident in Book 2, while I didn’t get enough of Rebecca’s fur baby, Sam.
Still, solving the murders keeps the reader invested, distractions and red herrings notwithstanding!

- Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2023This book is the third installment in the captivating saga of Rebecca Watson. If you haven't read the preceding two yet, I recommend you to do so; they're on par with the excellence of this latest edition. A fascinating thriller awaits within these pages, one that's bound to have you engrossed to the point of devouring it in one sitting. In this installment, we get an even deeper look at Rebecca, the determined detective with a solid personality.
Glass, as he has masterfully done in his previous works, shows a profound ability for captivating the reader's attention. His skill is in transporting you from your own reality and easily involving you in the story's vivid settings. The result creates a vivid story that builds a strong bond between the characters. If you are a fan of gripping suspense, and stories of crimes, you should not pass up the opportunity to read this novel.
