Hi, I'm M.M. Crumley Your Author Extraordinaire (Also Known as M.M. Boulder)

As M.M. Crumley I write Urban Fantasy books full of supernatural action, nail-biting-mystery and; laugh-out-loud humor. Why? Because stories, myths, and legends have always been a huge part of my life... As a child, I liked nothing better than to lose myself in a world where magic and heroes were part of the fabric of existence.

As my pen name M.M. Boulder I write psychological thrillers and murder mysteries that bring the darker impulses we may not feel completely comfortable with into the light. My stories are full of lies and deaths, but there is always justice. A type of justice that's not afraid to get its hands dirty. I write morally ambiguous characters who are pushed to their limits and take matters into their own hands. In my world getting away with murder has never been so much fun!

No matter what I write every one of my characters are real to me. They exist. They are three-dimensional beings who demand that their stories be told. If I were to turn away from them, they would haunt me; and so I don't. Instead I chase after them and write down everything they say!

    Another excellent story with a <expletive> cliff-hanger ending. If you have Books 1 & 2, you might as well commit to buying ALL the available Holliday books. Book 2 had a "minor" cliff-hanger, but based on Books 1 & 3, I suspect the remaining will be the same. Thankfully the books are well-written with good stories & interesting characters.

    This one was a bit more into the information and history of witches, which was helpful and a bit less in the blood. I'm sure that Doc was disappointed. I also liked how he handled his little problem with Mrs. Jury. That was outside of the box thinking. The head of an ancient ancestor was a nice touch for a villain and how a non witch was able to do magic. I'm also thinking that this is a set up for the next book. But unlike Doc Holliday, I don't take bets.

    So who is the real villain? I’m not sure, but I’m hoping the next book will shed some light on it. Thank goodness I already have it, and can go read it now.

    It occurred to me, as I was reading this third book in the series, that there's a lot of killing. I mean, even Mad Max would blanch at this much killing. What does it about us humans that we are so fascinated with killing? That aside, the series is only getting better. I was honestly wondering how it would continue now that The Problem was solved. Crumley managed to introduce a whole new problem, straight out of left field. Well played, author, well played.

    When I started this series, it was primarily because I’m a big fan of the legend of Doc Holiday. To that end, I’ve not been disappointed. The part of the story which interested me the least was the Hidden. It’s just not very compelling to me. Unfortunately, with each book, it becomes clearer that the Hidden is the main focus of this story. I also wish Holiday hadn’t been turned into something so much larger than life that he seems nearly invincible. I find myself missing Doc at his Western roots. I’ll probably keep reading the series, because I enjoy Doc as a character. But I do find myself wondering. If the hero of this series was this character, but not named Doc Holiday, would I still be reading? I’m starting to have my doubts. This book took me weeks to get through. While part of that was due to life obligations and focusing much of my spare time on editing my podcast and prepping tabletop role playing game adventures, that certainly wasn’t the entirety of reason for my slow journey through this quick read. I want to take a break before reading the next one, but since these are all essentially one continuous story rather than stand-alone adventures, I don’t have the luxury of taking much of a break, lest I start to forget details. I’m giving this 3 stars because I like what I liked from the first book. I just wish there was some character growth here! Or go episodic and don’t worry about character growth! But … as it stands I’m finding each book feeling exactly like the previous one. And if that’s the case, why not just make it one big book? There’s something missing here. Still, there’s much to recommend here—which is why I’m finding my feelings about the series so far so perplexing. There’s plenty of banter, a lot of fun, if one-sided, action, and … well, if that’s all you’re looking for and you’ve read the other two books, you’ll probably love this one too. By the numbers, so should I.

    I do think that the Old Testament justice that is regularly meted out by Doc Holiday is a bit simplistic, ie people who kill, rape, treat children badly or have a particularly mean disposition regularly get given a dose of terminal judgement. There are people in society who are regularly responsible for the deaths of hundreds and thousands. Those people are usually motivated by greed are are always at least a few steps removed from the consequences of their actions.
    Needless to say, the reader is provided with a constant stream of action.
