4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 530 ratings

An enemy lurks in the prince's inner circle. He'll do anything to escape justice... even commit murder.

England, 1923. Love is in the air and all eyes are on Windsor Castle, where the royal family is celebrating a new royal engagement.

When party invitations are sent to only an elite few, Dora and Rex's invite comes with strings attached.

There's a traitor hiding within the prince's inner circle. Dora and Rex, England's preeminent undercover spy team, are assigned to uncover the turncoat.

Their sole lead is a tip from an anonymous informant. To get the clue, they must meet him privately during the engagement bash.

But, when they show up at the secret rendezvous, instead of a clue, they find a dead body and Rex's best friend Clark holding the murder weapon.

Has Clark turned traitor or was he framed? Can Dora and Rex work double-time to clear their friend's name and identify the real killer before Scotland Yard's leading investigator puts Clark away for life?

A new twist on the "Locked Room" type mystery.
5 Stars
A new twist on the "Locked Room" type mystery.
Rex and Dora get involved in a murder while attending the engagement of Princess Elizabeth at Windsor Castle. A truly large locked room, a vast castle with tightly controlled access, limited number of suspects, with competing government branches investigating. A great mystery, with as many twists and turn as the there are halls in the castle.

I have very much enjoyed the adventures of Dora and Rex since I read the first book. Well developed characters and plots lead the way.

Excellent! Double Cross Dead is a phenomenal mystery! Lynn weaves factual historical facts together with wholly plausible fictional events to create a whirlpool of political intrigue with rippling undercurrents. The reader is called upon to determine via subtle clues whether the character is a victim or a suspect until gradually eliminated. The reader needs to choose the correct motive from the varying theories of who and why culminating in a not expected ending. It's an excellent brain motivator.
I highly recommend Double Cross Dead and the other books in the Rex and Dora series.

Fascinating look at the manners and customs of British royalty and aristocracy. In 1920s Britain, a friend of Prince Albert is murdered, and it looks like one of "Bertie's" inner circle is the culprit. Rex and Dora do a great job sorting through clues with their usual flair. Thanks to the author for the e-ARC of this clever mystery.

The story is very close to the limits of the time. It is refreshing to read about a female spy. She has a crew of loyal men who are adept at doing all sorts of impersonations. The pace moves and this is a quick read.

A Royal engagement threatened, a murderer revealed, and life changes evolve. Twists and turns kept this story moving quickly. A very entertaining story plot.

This mystery is delightful! Rex and Dora, who work for the British government (unknown to most people) in the 1920s. The story revolves around the engagement of the royal "spare" son, Bertie, and his future wife, Elizabeth. Anyone familiar with the fabulous movie, "The King's Speech" will remember the characters. There's murder, spies, wonderfully placed flashbacks in the novel, and lovely romance. Ms. Morrison made me think a lot about history in this novel, and that's a very good thing indeed. Highly recommended!

A murder at an engagement party can only mean one thing-Who might want to delay the wedding or cancel it altogether? It’s up to our team of unknown spies to find out the truth while acting totally like themselves- and they do!

5.0 out of 5 stars Did Not See That Coming

What can I say, I love Dora and Rex. Lynn's stories are great because they pull from real historical events. This time it's the engagement of Bertie (Prince Albert, later George VI) and Elizabeth. Rex's friends and family join the story as usual, although I was disappointed that Dora's 'household' were not as involved as usual. There's the usual shenanigans and a truly Machiavellian twist that I did not see coming. This is the best story in the series so far and now I can't wait to see what they get up to next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great series!

I’m enjoying this series. The plots & conversations are intelligent. But I am somewhat bemused by Flora not been recognised by her family & social circle. My family wasn’t particularly close but I know they’d recognise me regardless of what accent I had! It will be interesting when she returns in her true persona, if she ever does.
But the secondary characters are well developed & make for well rounded stories in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Excitement Continues
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 30, 2023
The 1920s have never interested me, until now! The Dora & Rex series of books have me hooked! Fast forward to Double Cross Dead which is the best yet. Murder at the engagement party of the King and Queen, lots of twists and turns to get to the finale. I don't know how Lynn is going to top this one, but looking forward to the next one already.
