The warriors have fallen. And those they previously protected must now band together to keep the invaders at bay. Mory, a young necromancer; Rochelle, a pregnant oracle; and Jasmine, a fledgling vampire, will do whatever it takes, whatever the cost, to prevent the fated future from unfolding. Even if that means they must become warriors themselves.

Graveyards, Visions, and Other Things that Byte consists of three novellas narrated by Mory, Rochelle, and Jasmine, and is set in the Dowser series. It is intended to be read between Dowser 8 and Dowser 9.

Great author ! So glad to see she’s writing again! Found her earlier books last year, mostly were published over 25 years ago. But her voice was so timeless, captivating, and compelling. Finished as many as 3 books a day. So glad to see she’s continuing the story line as if there were no time lapse. Absolutely love Jade! What’s not to like when the heroine becomes so lost in the music she actually floats! And of course all those on the dance floor are caught up in her infectious happines and can’t resist dancing too. Would love to have her for a friend. Actually loved all those secondary characters who get caught up in her magical sphere and can’t resist Jade and her cupcakes. Ms. Doidge is an author I adore . Don’t know her age, but thought she might be older based upon pub dates of the earlier dates. But that doesn’t matter. Loved her voice and the timeless quality it has. So sad when each book ended. Can’t wait for the next.

This book was everything I wanted and didn't realize I needed in a "misfits" book. It might be marketed as a novella, but it definitely felt like a full length novel to me.

We get to see inside the heads of even more characters! In this book, we get inside Mory, Rochelle, and Jasmine's heads and see what happened after the horrible, awful, cringeworthy ending of the previous book. Sure, they are ill informed so you gotta guess at a bunch of stuff, but it was still really great to have a bit of a departure from the normal Jade storytelling.

Starting with Mory, we get to know even more about the necromancer, her magic, her turtle, and how she ended up where she did at the end of the previous book. There's even more than that, but it was all just great and filled with knitting. Next, we dive into Rochelle's messed up world. Yes, we've been there before, but it was good to see that things completely have not changed for her. It's a big burden, but she carries it well. Last, we spend some time in the newly turned Jasmine's head. She has probably got the most issues, but really steps up for the misfit team in this one. I absolutely cannot wait to see what this random group of paranormals can pull off and how we move this plot to completion by the end of the next book!

I love this story from Mory & Jasmine’s point of view. Rochelle also gets another chance to have her voice speak. There are so many great characters in this universe that have their own stories, it’s great to hear them.

The author made a choice to write this book as separate "backstory" to the main plotline running through the series. I think it's an inspired choice and it drew me in SO completely, I surrendered and might have cried "uncle" out loud at some point. Giving the power of narration to three of the secondary characters was (again) an amazing gamble that paid off in spades! Thank you MCD!!

Bought for myself andshared with my teen granddaughter, whose mother doesn’t read ‘books like those’ and has now read them all! Haha!

I have to wait until December 4th for the "9th" book? That's a painful thought. The story's shift from book 8 to 8.5 (this one) is well done and allows some of the fledglings to step up. I like that. The various types of magic and how it's used is interesting, as well. Ed is a humorous addition. Seriously, a dead turtle named Ed. I thoroughly enjoy this author's creativity.

If you haven't read book 1 and like books about witches, vampires, werewolves, etc., this is a series that engaged me throughput all...15?...books, including the different companion series. Enjoy!

I enjoyed this novelette but....it seemed like a teaser until the next installment. I truly had difficulty getting through Mory's story but then the pace picked up with Rochelle and Jasmine. Given that Dowser #9 will be released tomorrow, I wanted to be fully up to speed on all the background action. This wasn't as compelling as the regular books but it does give us insight into three supporting characters who don't figure as prominently in the Dowser books. And I appreciated learning more about Jasmine who is one of the key players in the Reconstructionist series. The story also shows how the Elves appear to be the most formidable opponents the Dowser and her posse face.

This was a really interesting book, written from the perspective of 3 of the "supporting" characters from the separate storylines. We learn a lot more about those characters and the individual stories are very well woven together to bring us bang up book 9 in the series. Hope it comes quickly!

I finished books 1, 2 & 3 ages ago and loved them, things in life reminded me of them and i often found myself thinking of cupcakes and the characters. Much to my delight 6 months ago i found the series again and have binge read up until this one. The books offer escape from real life for 5 minutes or 2 hours where ever i have time. I am engrosed! Keep going Meghan!
