The Dragon King's Philosopher: A Gay Fantasy Romance (The Dragons of Serai Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 449 ratings

A broken heart sent me running right into his arms.
I live in a world of magic, but I'm a man of science. Nothing thrills me more than learning, be it a new language, culture, or the way something works. That is, until I fell for the Dragon Prince of Zaru. After he mated another man, I found myself listless, searching for something to ease the heartache. So when the offer of an archaeological job in Ha'tezan came to me, I accepted it instantly. I didn't ask what it paid or who was hiring me; I didn't care. I just needed to get out of Zaru.

My employer is a king—King Xa'din of Ha'tezan. At first, he seemed brutal, ruling his kingdom with an iron claw and a pair of cursed, mismatched eyes. But I sense there's something magnificent waiting behind his hard exterior, just as there is behind the ancient doors he's unearthed. And as intriguing as King Xa'din is, so is his island kingdom. It's full of exotic creatures and people I've never seen before. I intend to uncover all the secrets of Ha'tezan, especially those of its King. I just pray that I haven't traded heartbreak for something more fatal.

I rooted for the wrong couple in this book lmfao don’t get me wrong the OTP is lovely but man I wish it was the other *sighs* that being said it does point out how relationships do work not only words but actions matter.

I raised my eyebrows at a few… acts that happed in this story. The last one had me thinking that I have to submit a kink warning for this story. None of it is unreasonable or that unexpected as you read along, but on their own, they went places I haven’t been before. And let me tell you, I have been places.

Also, I get that people have flaws and it’s realistic to have them in the story, but the king really messed up near the end of the story which just throws a loop into the story that you weren’t expecting and it leads us down a new path.

I’m not against the new path, I’m upset at his “What is wrong with you” reaction to a situation that got us there.

    Moving on…

Everything else that I liked. They have arguments and make up. More than once. Heck. More than twice. The new world we find ourselves in. I think one of the fights the author came up with for them was for a change of scenery.

I thought that I recognized this new main culture, but I didn’t realize that some bits were missing until the last 2 or so chapters. And I was very pleasantly surprised. It was like I was seeing something for the first time and it woke up my mind. I may seem like I’m over selling it’s impression on me, but this was something that hit me and left me rattled for a few more seconds before I settled down to reading the rest of the story. And I fully understand that most of you will not be phased at all by those set of words.

Now, I was scratching my head at the underlying “problem” in the story. I think it’s no longer a secret, but the god freeing question, bugged me more than I expected it to. Who upends their world by introducing a god that very few know about and reintroduce them to a worldwide collection of cultures?

I was impressed with this story and wary of the hint I was shown of the following story due to the god angle and the kink that it has brought to this story and sure to be in the next one.

But I do think this is a good story dispute the warnings, I have repeatedly mentioned, that I have given concerning parts of the storyline between some couples. Yes, I do mean couples.

I’ll leave it up to you if you want to read the next story. I’m waiting for my own mind to be made up about that. But I’m starting to think that I will brave it because this series is giving me something that I was missing from the last set of dragon shifter books I read and over all I love how this author is crafting this world.

I wouldn’t have thought that we would have ended up here when I was reading the first book, and that just makes me wonder where she will take us next. Now I’m thinking we’ll see the sun goddess. Ok. Getting the next book.

    See ya!

A cursed violent King, a dragon who would rather be in a library then a battle, and an entombed God.

The twist and turns in this story will have you glued to the pages and asking yourself why? I can't wait to read the next book!

The beginning half was good, but the excessive amount of sex scenes started to ruin the book for me. I actually ended up skipping quite and few because I wanted to get to the plot. Near the end of the book, I was honestly over the whole story and just skipped the final scene because it was getting ridiculous and dragged out.

World building gets better and better. Opposires attract with Xa'din and Thas. Warrior King and philosopher. Great characters and story.

A little white savior (erudite, educated dragon comes from urban country to meet with the king of the dragon homeland, immediately starts belittling superstitions) a little toxic masculinity as a Dragon racial trait (explained by being out of balance since the Fire goddess made the race forget the Water god), throw in an imprisoned god, a possessive alpha, and a scene of macrophilia and you get a lot to chew on.

My biggest peeve about this series is the level of douchebaggery that one partner accepts from the other, and quickly forgives.

This book was a journey but we got there in the end. I honestly wasn't sure how it was all going to work out, but I love the way that it did! I think Thas is my favorite dragon! I love him so much! I can't wait to read the next book in this awesome series!

I've enjoyed the first two books in the series. They have some great sex scenes wound through the plot. This book, however, seemed to be all about sex and not much of a plot. The only plot here is the relationship struggles, common themes in the first two books. I almost stopped reading in the beginning because it seemed to be a rehash of the relationship type issues from the first two books but it developed past that. As someone else noted, my least favorite of the series thus far. We'll see how the fourth book is.

The story line is good, but it does not need every other chapter for their matings. Infact so many chapters just for that. I believe the story could have been completed within 200 something pages instead of dragging it to much.

I’ve enjoyed every single book in this series; the second book being my absolute favourite, closely followed by this one.

Thas’s new assignment takes him to a different kingdom where he finds so much more than he expected.

Highly recommend! I’m super excited about the next book due end of Jan 2023.
