Hatching Day has come and gone, and the festivities are over. Will's greatest hope was achieved when his egg hatched and he bonded with a dragon. But to everyone's shock, the hatchling that emerged is different. Vortex is white!

The dragon riders are convinced that Vortex is a pale shade of a usual color, but when Will's dragon can't produce so much as a spark of fire, they start to suspect something is wrong with him.
