The Dragon's Eye: An Epic Adventure (The Magic Circle Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 34 ratings

"What sets PC apart is his incredible ability to bring his characters to life." - Jim Bates, Amazon reviewer

Enemies unite; allies fight. The realm writhes in chaos.

A humble logger Baard Thon has accomplished something impossible and conquered a Wrathlord. That epic feat has made him the most admired man in the kingdom. And the most hunted.

The king is furious at Baard’s hero status. Religious fanatics want to murder Baard for defying a doctrine. The two remaining Wrathlords are mustering armies of bloodthirsty Daemorcs and Corpsentinels, and Baard cannot face them without his Wrathblade. The sword has snapped, though, and neither the mages nor the elves know how to reclaim its magic.

As the net tightens, a mysterious woman suggests something so insane that he scorns it off.

Until the impossible becomes the only possibility...

A Great Continuation of Book 1

A Great Continuation of Book 1
The saga continues with book two, The Dragon's Eye. Our reluctant hero Baard Thorn prepares to take on two Wrathlords who have joined forces to defeat the Mage. Baard tries to up his chances of defeating Thorstorm's enemies by finding a secret weapon. He makes a new friend Ufi and loses an enemy and some of his mentors who have fought alongside him. Even though he is hailed as a hero, Baard is also despised as a threat by many and finds himself balancing the two worlds. Baard continues to mourn his sister while gaining insight and strength from Elya and her wolf Fierran, a gift he has inherited from the great loss he's suffered. With repeated good and evil characters from the earlier book, you are taken on the quest to save Queen Diara's realm. To gain the upper hand on the Wrathlords, who have joined forces against him, Baard focuses on ridding the world of the Middleman, who has been spying on the humans and Firelves, giving the Wrathlords all their secrets. The Middleman casts no shadow, and no one knows what is under his helmet. Cleverly leaving the ending on a cliffhanger, P.C. Darkcliff sets the stage for the next part of his story, where you think you might know Baard's plan, but you won't find out if you are right until you read book three!

Book 2, like the first book, is a fast-paced, action filled adventure. We get more depth of each character and see greater bonding between all. We witness the effects of betrayal and intrigues plotted against our team of heroes. These stories move fast and are Extremely well written and vividly detailed. This series is a Must Read for anyone who enjoys fantasy and an unassuming hero triumph. I'm looking forward to book 3.

The second book in The Magic Circle series picks up where the first one left off with the petal to the medal and the incredible imagination of author PC Darkcliff roaring ahead with all the pistons firing. It’s a fantastic ride. Reluctant hero Baard along with his lover Diara and a host of their friends and companions from the first book The Wizard’s Blade are up against a daunting challenge: They must defeat the remaining two Wrathlords, Gorgoth and Aascotaah, and restore peace to the realm. It’s a huge undertaking. And it’s an amazing story, one that accomplished storyteller PC Darkcliff is more than capable of handling. In Book 2 he introduces us to a couple of great new characters one of whom is Ufi, a court jester who becomes Baard’s friend and confidant. His humorous antics are a fun diversion and help Baard to take his mind off the seriousness of his quest. Along with his cohorts from Book 1, Sethric, Mardok, Al’Anark, and others, Baard prepares to attack the armies of Gorgoth and Aascotaah and save the day. As usual, PC’s battle scenes are incredibly well written, and I often felt like I was right there in the midst of the fierce fighting. What sets PC apart in my estimation is his incredible ability to bring his characters to life. Baard and Diara especially have become fully realized characters. You really feel for them and the challenges they face, both as warriors and as a couple who are deeply in love with each other. Once started, I had trouble putting this book down. The action is non-stop, and it’s a wonderful addition to the series.

First, I must tell you that if you shy away from books that are in a series for fear of starting a never-ending-story, you do not need to be concerned with the Magic Circle publications, of which “The Dragon’s Eye” is the second, and done exceptionally well!

I read on my Kindle, my entire collection (including books from the library) are on my Kindle, I prefer it over a printed book for many reasons, one of which is the ability to highlight and reference back to passages that are outstanding to me for one reason or another and I can share my highlights in a neat orderly fashion. I mention this because by Chapter Three in “The Dragon’s Eye”, I not only made a highlight, but added a notation in ALL CAPS, which I will not explain because it would reveal a huge “spoiler”. I did NOT see that situation/solution/adventure approaching!!!! WELL DONE MR. DARKCLIFF!!

So, getting back to this being part of a series, it’s okay if you want to try out book number two, “The Dragon’s Eye”, first — skipping over “The Wizard’s Blade”, yeah, you’ll have missed a lot of action and getting to know some beloved characters that don’t make it to book number two, but, our hero carries on with his sweetheart, reconnects with members of the Magic Circle, meets a new sidekick (Ufi — lovable, capable, loyal) oh, and of course, remaining villains from book one make unforgettable appearances along with more unlikable characters.

This book is a tale of magic, mayhem, mystery, discovering and growing into oneself. The story is complete unto itself, although, you might be interested to read the first book simply to get to know a little more about the “beginnings”, even though Darkcliff leaves no questions in the reader’s mind as to “what’s going on?”. I could go on and on and on but, I’m not writing a book here, I’m writing a review for a book that I absolutely L-O-V-E and recommend highly! Five stars!

Book 2 of The Magic Circle is another hit out of the park! Intense, action-packed, at times frightening and epic in every way. You do not want to miss this series. Follow our hero, Baard, as he fights to free his world of the evil Wrathlords. You will love these well thought out characters and cheer them on as they show courage and devotion to one another but especially to Baard. Don't miss this story. Be sure to start with book 1, The Wizard's Blade. Excellent!

It is quite rare in my opinion to find a sequel as good as or better than the original. With The Dragon’s Eye, book 2 of The Magic Circle, we discover just this; a hero, broken and afraid, greater villains, fewer allies, and an impossible quest made even more difficult. For those who love the epic fantasy stories of the 70s and 80s and for anyone who just loves a great quest, The Dragon’s Eye is indeed the book you are looking for. Buy it, forget about the real world, and enjoy…

    The Wrathblade is broken.
Baard’s victory brought peace to Esgardia, but new threats brew in the Wrathlands. This time Baard faces no ordinary battle. Without his Wrathblade he will have to find another way to defeat his foes.

The Dragon’s Eye is foremost a fantasy tale; however, there are political undertones that move in tandem with the plot. There are those who would use chaos to gain power. Dangers emerge where you least expect them. New allies appear while old enemies’ fester. It is just as immersive and fast paced as the first novel. I devoured every page of this book and I’ve already pre-ordered the third novel.
