Into the Dread Void (The Dread Void Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 1,396 ratings

To fight the darkness, she must embrace what sets her apart.

Nell Parrish has an incredible gift: with a single touch, she can temporarily quiet the disorders of the human mind. It's a gift she’s learned to bury after a childhood spent ricocheting through foster homes. But when a storm traps her new foster family deep in the woods, and a strange, hypnotic light begins to pulse through the rain-soaked trees, Nell’s ability becomes their only defense against something ancient, ravenous—and not of this world.

Meanwhile, across dimensions, an immortal hunter named Hux stalks the monstrous beings that slip through the Void into our reality. But his latest target leads him to a startling discovery: a teenage girl whose peculiar nature has earned the trespasser's relentless fixation…

The first in the spine-tingling Dread Void series, Into the Dread Void is a supernatural thriller with nail-biting suspense, chilling mystery, and heartfelt characters you'll root for through thick and thin.

I wish I had a unique and original catchy headline here but alas - I cannot believe, at almost 50 years of age, I just now stumbled upon Abe Moss. I started this book just hoping it would pass time but Holy Shirt I quickly became enamored with the characters and plot. I finished this 1st book of the series in one day and I'm about to start book 2 right now. A perfect mix of horror, science-fiction, and fantasy. I dare you to read this and NOT get drawn into the Void.

Poor Nell she has a strange power and cosmic blood, whatever that means.
She's finally in a loving foster home and all hell breaks loose! People start dying and then there's this man with silver hands that know how to protect her. And there's that strange green light that makes people do crazy things....can't wait for the next book!

I have to give a lot of credit to author, Abe Moss, for his building of suspense in this story. The novel opens with a family getting killed in a mysterious and pretty horrifying way. I frankly expected that to be the lead into bringing the story’s heroine, fourteen-year-old, Nell, and her foster family into danger, but Moss had a better idea. As the foster child and foster family get to know each other in suburbia, Moss keeps introducing more and more people who die terribly out in the wilderness where we know the foster family is planning to vacation. By the time the family heads out to their cabin, the death rate is already incredibly high, and things do not look good for our heroine.

At the same time, Moss also introduces us to a very strange giant of a man who appears to be trying to stop the entity that is killing people out in the wilderness. He’s a bit disturbing as well, but heck, we can hope he really is a good guy.

Things really get hopping when the family arrives at the cabin and has a super nice day before everything goes to hell (almost literally). As the entity begins to entrap family members, Nell discovers that her supernatural ability to calm people by touching them serves to break the hold of the entity over her new family members—but only while she is holding on to them. What follows is the desperate effort of Nell to save these people who were so unexpectedly kind to her while it becomes increasingly obvious that she isn’t going to be able to save them all.

This is a very good story about an atypical supernatural threat.

OMG this was the best series! This had me on the edge of my seat throughout each book. I literally did not want it to end. In fact, at the end I was in tears! Abe Moss you literally brought the cosmos into my veins. In fact, I am hoping one day I wake up with silver eyes! The amount of horror and hysteria throughout this series was literally out of this world! Pun intended! I was attached to each and every single one of these characters and could see and feel through their eyes! I was so immersed in this book and its characters I cried at the end because it was so emotional! Please tell me there's gonna be a book 9!

The level of knowledge and creativity that went into this series is literally unmatched!

Thank you for such an amazing experience!

All aboard the Dread Void! One day I hope to step through that silver portal!

I just finished the entire series and wanted to come back to book One and give a review. I found this series captivating. Each book was read in one day because I wanted to know what would happen. I found the characters likable and realistic. I also enjoyed this different take on the paranormal, it was unique! The books are easy to read. Yes there were times when certain things were glossed over or addressed with a sentence later, but they were rather trivial details and didn’t take away from the main story line. Enjoy!

    4 solid stars.

An extremely well written novel that began in much confusion and concluded with a thrilling ending.

    Bonus: NO editing errors!

Hux, a not quite human with the ability to travel between dimensions and vanquish the monsters therein, is called upon to kill a particularly vile multi-tentacled entity that consumes human souls to survive. A human girl, Nell, who has spent practically all her life in foster homes, becomes the focal point between Hux and the entity due to her possessing "cosmic traits" that can save other humans, such as those in her newly adoptive family, from the ruthless entity.

Without giving away too much of the plot, Nell is drawn into the battle for her new family's lives between Hux and the entity. What follows is a dangerous and deadly fight that nearly drives her insane and almost kills Hux.

The characters are all well developed, the plot becomes smooth, the prose is outstanding and the plot lines ultimately meld seamlessly. The ending chapters are abundantly horrific and heartwarming, with a teasing insight of future events. This is an author to watch out for in the near future!

I am looking forward to reading the sequel. For fans who like their horror with many twisted turns, this book is for you!

3.0 out of 5 stars Reads more like a prequel

Interesting concepts here, but the second half got confused. It didn't seem to follow the regular format--fighting/vanquishing the antagonist. Instead, it was all setup for the next book, or more likely, rest of the series.

Abe Moss has written another winner. A beautiful green light attracts people. It lures them to their deaths. Nell is very happy with her new foster parents - until they are killed by the dark entity who is fascinated by her. Unlike the others she does not fall prey to its attraction. She comes across Hux who is the only being who can fight this evil. This book was scary and a page turner.

I enjoyed this book, it was different to what I usually read. I will definitely read the next book to see how Nell develops and see what she can do. After being fostered by a good family, Nell is comfortable after a few bad family’s she has encountered previously . The new family take her to a cabin in the woods where something strange and bad happens to her new family, Nell finds out she is different to them as she is immune to the goings on to the people around her. She now has to find out who she really is
