Dream a Little Dream (To Love a Psycho Book 1): A Dark MM Forbidden Student/Professor Psychological Thriller Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 98 ratings

His student. His obsession. His undoing.

“Aaron Jones was a spark in the dark. Beautiful. Dangerous. Capable of destruction. Kenny should have run. Instead, he lit the match.”

Aaron Jones knows all about the darkness lurking beneath polished façades. His parents were infamous for it. Determined to keep everyone at arm’s length, especially those who dig too deep, his carefully built walls start to crumble when he encounters his new professor, renowned criminal psychologist, Dr Kenneth Lyons.

Kenny has always been drawn to the darkness. But nothing prepares him for Aaron, the haunted student who awakens something dangerous in his carefully controlled world. As the son of the most infamous serial killers, Aaron’s past is a minefield of trauma and secrets.

Aaron is a beautiful, complex, irresistible puzzle, and one Kenny’s desperate to solve. Sweeping aside every professional and moral boundary, he crosses the line towards a forbidden, all-consuming obsession, where every touch is a sin and every whispered confession could lead to ruin.

But as a killer emerges, leaving a trail of echoes from Aaron’s past, their fragile relationship is tested in ways neither could have expected. And when the next target is someone close to Kenny, the line between Aaron’s bleak heritage and his innocence blurs.

Who the real monster is will leave them questioning everything.

Especially each other.

Dream a Little Dream (To Love a Psycho Book 1) is the first book in a gripping new trilogy of obsession, psychological tension, and dark romance where nothing is as it seems. Perfect for fans of twisted mysteries, forbidden attraction, and heart-pounding suspense.

Brought up in a relatively small town in Hertfordshire, C F White managed to do what most other residents try to do and fail—leave.

She eventually settled for pie and mash, cockles and winkles and a bit of Knees Up Mother Brown to live in the East End of London; securing a job and creating a life, a home and a family.

She writes gritty British based stories about imperfect men falling in love against the odds and has been accused of sprinkling a little humour into them too.

I just finished this yesterday and when I learned that book 2 comes out in 4-5 days, I’m sitting here counting the minutes! Terrific budding love story with a nice age gap. Suspenseful, page turning, deep emotions, two yearning hearts. And what a life Aaron has been through! You just want to throw your arms around him and hug him. But he has strong feelings for only one and that’s the other main character Kennie who is somewhat of a prude and too afraid of risking his career for love. One description I read describes the story as ‘dark’ but I fail to see it that way. Stories like this happen all around us in real life all the time. So far I find the first book of this series mesmerizing. I’m now behind in my chores because of this book but I have no regrets!!

This was so riveting to me.
It was full of mystery, danger and plenty of plot twists.
Two characters who are complete opposites but can't stop the sizzling chemistry between them or the intense pull they ferl towards one another despite the glaringly visible power imbalances between them.
I can't wait for more from this world

    Dream A Little Dream-CF White
    3.5 ⭐️

Psychological thrillers and MM romance are both right up my alley when it comes to reading. I love a good thriller that will keep me on my toes and having me sitting at the edge of my seat the whole time. I had many things I liked about the book and then some things that I didn’t like.

To start, I loved the psychological thriller aspect. The storyline was great and suspenseful and I loved how in the end, it all came together. All of the bits and pieces throughout the story came together in the end perfectly. I’m really looking forward to, hopefully, more suspense and thriller aspect in book two! I also liked the flashbacks to gather all information as to relationships and the past of Kenny and Aaron to help readers understand where they were coming from.

There were a few things I wasn’t a fan of. One, I don’t feel this was really a romance at all. Yes, they got together right away and were pining after each other the whole book but the book had minimal focus and minimal spice. Two, I felt that the back and forth between them saying how they wanted each other and then Kenny saying they can’t be together happened a lot. I wish they would have had a HEA or even more involvement with each other. The third part
Is just me but I’m a person that likes quite a bit of spice. This book had very little romance or spice.

I feel that the next book will build more into their relationship to hopefully have a HEA. I’m hoping to see more romance and spice but I’d love to have the thriller aspect still there. I will definitely be reading the second book to see how Aaron and Kenny can hopefully get together and stay together!

Overall, I enjoyed the book and I would recommend you read it if you like psychological thrillers!

I DNF’d this book. I read up to the 55% mark (page 200 for me) and I just couldn’t continue. In the initial author blurb, they mention that this is essentially a romance, but I don’t see it at all. For the entirety of what I’ve read so far, Kenny is pining for his ex, or he’s reliving memories of their past (sometimes explicitly), or he’s with his current love interest Heather. There’s sexual tension between him and Aaron (the other MC), but nothing else. So, I have to ask having read more than half the book, where is the romance or even the chemistry between the two MC’s? It’s non-existent up to this point, and I don’t want to waste more time trying to chase it.

The plot itself is interesting. There’s a murder that connects the MCs pasts together that keeps the reader on edge. I like it, but not enough to keep me interested.

The writing style is geared more towards UK readers. I didn’t understand a lot of the slang and there were times when sentences were unfinished or just stopped and it made me question if it’s a UK thing, or if the story needed an editor? Not sure. It made the reading feel disjointed at times. Overall, not a book for me.

I was expecting a dark romance and got a gripping psychological thriller. Although sparks fly between Kenny and Aaron right from the start and the book opens with a spicy scene, the focus is more on the highly suspenseful plot as the story progresses. As the plot unfolds, we learn more and more about their past. Towards the end, events come to a head and I couldn't put the book down until the minor cliffhanger. I'm really looking forward to part two of the story!

This book has burrowed its way into my soul... no joke. I couldn't stop reading once I started, and I've been thinking about it ever since. I have always been a fan of C.F. White's writing since I first discovered her books, but this one is a whole new level.

I must begin by saying that this is one of those books that I'm going to have to be very careful reviewing. This story deserves to be unraveled by the reader and needs to remain unspoiled.
What I can say is that the writing style is beautiful.

The two main characters are very different and yet drawn to one another in quite a visceral way. Dr. Kenneth Lyons - Kenny to his friends - has a lot going on in his mind all the time. He seems incapable of having a relationship without putting his remarkable BA skills to work. But he's made mistakes in his own past, particularly with relationships, in no small part due to a tragic loss in his past.

Aaron is a young man who is clearly troubled. His darkness and intensity come through the moment you meet him on the page. And, as his story unfurls, it's impossible not to fear for him and be a little afraid of him at the same time.

Dr. Lyons isn't afraid of Aaron.

A missing person who turns up dead...and murdered sparks off a set of events that puts Aaron and Kenny on different sides of the interrogation table. The characters all begin to find that their lives are in entangled in ways they couldn't have predicted...and it is quickly unclear what the outcome will be.

White has created an engaging story that is clearly well-researched. If, like me, you enjoy true crime, behavioural analysis, intense relationships and gritty writing, then this is definitely a book you will enjoy.

One thing though... there may be a variety of interpersonal relationships in this book but don't go into this expect a romance like some from White's other books. The relationships in this book are fully fleshed out, flawed, confronting and intriguing. This is a plot that will sink it's claws into you and you're going to love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars a masterpiece in my opinion.

The flow of this book was consistently powerful each and every words got me hooked to read the next .. but I felt a concern that made me sad or maybe upset because of how scenarios take place in my country, the name Rahul Misra did me injustice,I don’t know if the author did this because she was scared or deliberately but not in a million years before or later will that name belong to any person from a Muslim background, Rahul Misra a truly Hindu name was off putting.
Wish you could actually use a muslim name.
I’m sorry but I did not like this at all. And being a hindu we aren’t against lgbt its not in our texts or anything.
If you’d change it a bit like actually him being from a hindu background would have been a million times better.
And keeping this aside the book itself was marvellous.
Author please don’t do that mistake again.

This wasn't at all like I thought it would be. It was a carefully crafted story which kept me hooked. I enjoyed the character development and how it kept you interested. My first CFWhite book. Bug I liked the writing style which was pacey and not stale. Read and enjoy. Looking forward to next chapter.
