Eagleton: Confirmed Bachelors Book 6 Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 1,063 ratings

Two people haunted by their past…

Alexander Wraxall, 6th Marquess of Eagleton, worries he may be cursed. Those close to him tend to die, and he believes he is, in part, responsible for their deaths. When he receives a packet of letters from a relative he thought long dead, he embarks on a journey that will change his life forever.

Since washing up on the shores of Lake Garda, Nell Marsdon has put her nightmarish history behind her and, in the house of Angelica Montovani, has found some peace. It is shattered by the arrival of the Marquess of Eagleton, a man who represents everything she has learned to despise.

Under the sun of a foreign land, they will be forced to confront their deepest fears, but will it unite or divide them?

I live by the sea in Plymouth, England, with my partner Dave. I like reading, sailing, and exploring in our camper van. I love getting up early to watch the sunrise in summer, and long quiet evenings by the wood burner in our cabin on the cliffs in Cornwall in winter.

I write traditional Regency romance novels that respect the mores of the era. I like to think my characters, though flawed, are likeable, strong, and true to the period.

This was such a complete story. The characters Nell and Alexander were so good together. The drama kept the story from becoming dull. The ending was very romantic.

This book was writen in a style I can only say is so Jenny Hambly. I love her books and this one was not lacking love, adventure or character development. I was so happy to see a reformed Eagleton from this series. He was a villian that you felt was redeemable before. The way he loved his baby was precious, and to see him fall for a the perfect girl for him was great. I love the lady of this book as well, her story was truly unique and well written. I look forward to the next story.
Clean book, no sex scene but fantastic chemistry/attraction and some kisses.

From start to finish, this series has been a delight! The stories are well told with interesting characters and original plots. I enjoyed the sub-plot mysteries as well. I think you can see how Ms. Hambly has grown and expanded as a writer and I look forward to reading her other works.

I have been waiting to read Eagleton’s story for a long time. And I hate to admit I was a little disappointed. Their relationship was just weird to me…I know, they were both damaged but it just seemed like they argued a lot, were offended by each other or disdained each other…and I just didn’t feel the sexual tension.

Loved this book. We see the H turn the corner finally and become the H. Well written and had a bit of adventure/mystery which is great.

Nice job on making his change believable. It's been awhile since I read the previous books in the series, so I may not fully remember Eagleton's personality in the other stories, but it felt like a true change that was real.

    Series worth reading and clean.

I love this author's books, but this one seemed slow, with boring parts and some events that didn't make sense. The poor hero, a Marques who has grown without love and with a cruel uncle, and so has lived a life of dissipation, friendless and cold, is an often repeated and trite plot. The evil behavior of the heroine's husband is extreme and doesn't explain why he would take her with him to Italy if he despises her. The bad behavior of the cousin towards her in the beginning is inexplicable, as he's later shown to be a good guy. She also uses rare words which I have never heard before, like animadvert and others.

I was glad that the bad boy got his love but the story was a little crazy. A lot of the beginning was hard to understand but the book got better. I also think there should have been an epilogue for us readers to give us a glimpse into the future.

I always enjoy Jenny Hambly's books. She makes her characters likable and believable and their stories are not too outregeous. She also keeps to historical period and does not stick modern details where they don't belong.

A throughly enjoyable light read with moments of heartache, whimsical romance and several twists that make for a a little suspense along the way. I really enjoyed this book and will be looking for more by the author.

4.0 out of 5 stars romance and redemption
Reviewed in Australia on April 29, 2023
Hambly is a very good writer and her characters leap off the page. I have loved this series, yet I found this one less compelling than the previous volumes. The redemption of a foolhardy rake isn’t an easy task and I wasn’t quite sure about Eagleton even at the end. Not because I thought he’d return to his past ways, but because he was still so emotionally broken from his upbringing.
Angst abounds: triggers for emotional abuse and violence.

5.0 out of 5 stars A story of restored hope and trust
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 10, 2023
An enjoyable book which I could not put down till the end, Much of this story is set in Italy which brings a different dimension to it. Two people who have lost trust and hope of love are bought together in a way that hints and weaves its magic to a happy conclusion.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Reviewed in Australia on May 8, 2023
Haved loved all of this series, but this was clumsily written and I almost doubt came from the same author. Others seem to have enjoyed it, but sadly I tried and failed, characters were just boring and cliche. skipped from about chapter 12 to the end. Maybe I missed the best bits? Sorry.
