Even in Death: a Romantic Horror Novella Kindle Edition
Death brought me back to my childhood home, my parents’ estate deep in the English countryside. Now… I am the owner of it all.
Only, this house comes with a secret. One I am part of and unknowingly keeping.
Yet, this secret has a voice. One coming from a shadow. A shadow that crawls over your skin while you sleep, brushes over your lips, whispers wicked things in your ear, and brings forth an unnatural depravity.
It knows me more than I know myself. It knows all the things I have forgotten.
When the shadow comes for me… I have no choice but to remember it all.
And I want to remember it all.

About the author

Lilith Roman is a romance author who writes stories laced with danger, intense passion, and dark themes—always ending in a happily ever after.
She’s an introvert with an addiction to pretty hardbacks she’ll never read, anything chocolate, and steamy books. But her love of horror movies and vampire villains has convinced her, without a shadow of a doubt, that even the monster under the bed needs a love story.

Five Spooky Stars! ⭐⭐🌟⭐⭐
This story is an anthem for those who know that haunting chill down your spine when you, for a split second, think you saw something that's not there. That tiniest of flickers of things undefinable in your peripheral vision. Like a hint of a shadow, or a quick flash of light.
Her entire life, Zahara has felt different from the rest of the world in a way she can't quite explain. She arrives to her family's estate she's now the sole owner of, to make her arrangements for the property she doesn't quite feel comfortable being back in. Mallor Hall has a dark presence to it she's unable to shake. Yet that strange energy appears to be something only she can sense.
We are introduced to the enormous grounds of the mansion, that stretch as far as the eye can see, bathed in tones of burnt ochre, burgundy and amber. The building itself is a living, breathing character of the story with secrets of its own, its light somewhat dimmed now that her parents are gone, the space too big, the silence too loud.
We're fed with rich spoonfuls of vivid descriptions of the atmosphere and the surroundings of the estate, an area of storytelling where the author's skills are nearly supernatural. I could feel the scent of October in the air, hear the crunching of leaves beneath my feet, sense the whisperings of the weeping willow by the pond.
"My gaze settles on my favorite tree in the far distance as I answer—the weeping willow with its long branches brushing the surface of the pond in the morning breeze."
Like the house, the willow holds so much memories for Zahara. It's a place of such exquisite beauty, yet so very haunted by something unfathomable. There's a shadow she feels all around Mallor Hall, like a distant memory she has no recollection of, but what clings to her with an embrace of familiarity so sharp it's almost unbearable.
The story touches elements of the paranormal, marries preternatural with darkness so sinful it has the reader blushing crimson! Weaved deep within the fabrics of the otherworldly, lies a love story of such beauty it has you weeping, as well as a desire so brutal it has you trembling. The steam will have you shivering with desire.
The moment all veils are lifted, we are served with the unexpected. It's the absolute best to go in blind to get the full experience of this story. (However, be aware of the triggers involved, in case those are something you are uncomfortable with.)
Lilith's writing flows so poetically, you'd better prepare to be swept away reading until the wee hours of the morning! The splendor that is Even In Death will stay with you for a long time 🖤 A deeply emotional story about passion so deep it hurts and about love that transcends any obstacles in its way. 🔥✨

I mean can a heart break and glow at the same time? Yes, yes it can.
Normally I’m not into these types of books, but I thought I’d give it a shot. This was my first read by this author and I specifically chose it because it was a short read and something I haven’t explored yet.
I do wish we had the MMC POV tho, that would have certainly been nice even if it ended up being after the MFC had her breakthrough moment.
Ugh the ending tho is a HEA just NOT in the way I expected. Their love was boundless, even if she forgot about it for 15 flipping years. When she remembered everything I was both distraught and happy because again PLOT FRIGGIN TWIST.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseFirst off, this has a touch of darkness in the murky waters, so tread carefully.
Zahara has returned to her family home after an accident tears her parents from the mortal plains. Trying to tie things up, she embarks through her old home, with a feeling of detached interest, something she has been plagued with since she was a child when it came to loss. But it isn't all that it seems and soon forgotten memories and a ghost who seems to know her by name, pulls a secret long since buried, to the surface.
There is life, love and loss. This was bitter sweet and well recommended to those who don't mind having tissue nearby.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis novella seriously ripped my heart out and put it back all in one swift motion. I don’t want to give anything away since going in blind is a better experience when reading. Maybe you will figure it out before I did. This was beautifully written and I can’t wait to read more from this author! Happy Reading!

- Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis wasn’t for me. I thought it would a dark and twisty stalker type romance, but it almost felt like a bad Lifetime movie. The author has a beautiful voice and style, but I could not get over the execution of the idea.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis story gripped me from the beginning. I enjoy horror, romance, supernatural, paranormal. This story leaves you wondering from the moment you open its cover. But oddly enough I found it lacking in horror. While it does contain dark , even triggering subjects it wasn't enough to my own liking. It does contain a happily ever after in its own way which made the ending rather sweet if not endearing.

5.0 out of 5 stars short and spooky
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis short ghost novella had me gripped from the get go. Not knowing which direction the story was going to take I couldn’t put it down. I loved that you couldn’t help but be fearful and yet also turned on every time the ghost appeared, his intentions towards Zahara unknown.
Due the the trauma and medication mentioned at the beginning you don’t know whether when Zahara is questioning her mental state whether see is truely seeing and experiencing the things she is or if it’s a figment of her imagination.
Overall a great short story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heartbreaking romance disguised as a ghost story
Format: KindleVerified PurchasePerfect for spooky season this book was a wonderful surprise. Mystery, suspense and so many emotions. I definitely cried during the last few pages, which completely surprised me. I loved it. I guess sometimes you just need a little bit of a cry.
While my initials thoughts were that this book was going to be a mysterious ghost story, it slowly became much more. On the surface it reads like a ghost story but as the book goes on and the mystery presents itself and begins to unravel you go on such a journey with these characters. Not only is it the FMC questioning what’s going on in the house she’s also questioning her past, her sanity and her family. It’s a heartbreaking love story disguised as a ghost story.
It’s a short and powerful read, it really does pack a punch. It is perfect for spooky season but it is a little bit more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Quick and fast paced novella
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI was in the mood for something short and dark and that is exactly what this romantic horror novella said it would be.
This book follows Zahara that inherited her parents estate after they died in an accident.
Little did she know that going back to her childhood home also brings out a secret, a shadow with a voice.
That will do everything for being heard and coming out of the shadows.
Although I did have multiple ‘WTF’ moments while reading this book, it wasn’t that dark or scary, imo.
Because it is a romantic horror novella I did expected it to be a little more..
