About the author

Cassandra B. Leigh began writing poems and stories for her own enjoyment, then discovered the multiple Jane Austen fan fiction sites and jumped into the fray to explore the 'what-ifs' of P&P. What if the half-hour in the Netherfield library resulted in outrageous gossip? What if Elizabeth and Darcy endeavored to be civil to each other during the Hunsford proposal? What happened to Darcy after the rejected proposal? Ms. Leigh posts under the name 'Astonishment' and is a devotee of Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2023Thank you, Cassandra, for another pleasurable day. The variations worked well for me, accommodating canon in new ways.
I’m not surprised: I have enjoyed all your previous treatments of ODC.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2024I finished this so it gets three stars. Author uses bullet points.
I found this Elizabeth unlikable.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2023Miss Elizabeth Bennet is not going to let this go unchallenged. Now she's out for revenge . Some say "revenge is a dish best served cold " , obviously, this is something she's never read in one of her books. So a game of oneupsmanship , misunderstandings begins, but at what cost? I think you'll enjoy this somewhat frustrating and somehow satisfying story. I certainly did!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2023Just a little angst but a pleasant tale. The storyline was fairly good. I found the characters to be diverting.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2023This was an overall nice read. Lizzy's actions were definitely silly, and Darcy's weren't far behind. I am glad that the contrived angst was not overly long-lasting.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2023A relatively fast , enjoyable read.
Elizabeth in this story was a little more resentful thus more less attractive revenge.
Darcy was somewhat better but their reactions to each other were generally over the top.
However, it was well written and true to the characters we know.
Definitely recommend!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2024Lets dance. Tolerable. Laugh at the tactics Elizabeth undertakes to get him back, but Darcy actually responds tolerable to these tactics. Still takes a while for them both to come around, but we get our hea.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2024How can anyone have the hubris of thinking they can tell Jane Austin's story better than she? At a third of the way through the book, I gave up. If I wanted to reread "Pride and Prejudice ", I would have read the original. The fun of the variations are seeing the characters expanded with different events. I found this book unreadable.

This started off ok, very much as in the original but soon lost its sparkle and though I did finish it. I felt it was rather dull.

3.0 out of 5 stars Do not like
I grew quite annoyed with this version of Lizzy. Continually raising the name of another potential suitor is more than just teasing - it's cruel.
