An Embrace To Hearten Me: The Magi Accounts 3.5 (The Magi Accounts Companion Stories) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 606 ratings

I can’t seem to choose between the two shifters who mean the world to me… but what if I can have them both?

Trying to navigate my feelings has never been easy. Growing up, I had to keep my emotions locked down and hidden from the world or suffer the consequences. But now, well, now I’ve had a taste of freedom, and with it, my heart has been running wild.

Between trying to find witches—members of the Red Cloth—at work and sifting through my overwhelming emotions, I’m a mess. And two certain shifters seem happy to help sort me out, which is great, but it’s making all these feelings hit me at once.

How in the world can I tell River and Kulani that I… that I like them? Both of them. At the same time. This is going to end in disaster with one, two, or three hearts broken. But what if it doesn’t? What if there’s a way for all three of us to get what we want?

An Embrace To Hearten Me is a MMX (male/male/nonbinary) urban fantasy romance companion novel meant to be read AFTER A Purpose That Restores Us (The Magi Accounts 3). This is Jude, Kulani, and River’s story and takes place between books 3 and 4 of the main series. It’s meant to be read as part of the series, not by itself, although the love story is resolved in this book.

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

Michele is married to an awesome guy that puts up with her and all the burnt dinners she makes—hey, sometimes characters are a bit distracting, and who doesn’t plot when they’re supposed to be cooking? They live together in Baltimore, Maryland with two little monsters, a three-legged princess, a four-legged goofball, and a cutie with giant ears (aka their two kids, their two cats, and their dog). She hopes to rescue another cat soon, and if her hubby wouldn’t kill her, she’d get more than one… and maybe a few more dogs as well.

She loves creating worlds filled with lots of love, chosen family, and of course, magic, but she also likes making the characters fight for that happy ending. She hopes to one day write all the stories in her head—even if there are too many to count!

I was so excited to read Jude’s story! And it didn’t disappoint. It was such a sweet loving romance that you can’t help your heart melting into a gooey puddle of mush lol

River, K, and Jude were perfect together and completed each other in the best of ways. I enjoyed the pining and slow burn and build up of the relationship.

Felt like this was a super slow burn if you include all the previous books! But it was super sweet and we got some insight into the side characters (insert crying). I was surprised at River’s personality, they always come off in the previous books to me as timid but they were not in this one! This trope is usually one of my least favorite but it worked well for the flow of the story. Can’t wait for the main storyline to get back on track!

I've been waiting for this book to come out since we got glimpses of who Jude would end up with. This book was everything I was hoping for and so much more. It took some time for them to figure everything out, but it's worth it once they get there. Have some tissues ready for this one part. This is such a great book and series and I highly recommend it.

Michele Notaro, is a Whip\Candy author she squeezes your heart, while still making you love her books. I've been waiting for these three, and WOW, so cute, so cuddly, so sweet and definitely soooo hot. Yes, there will be some tears, some rage, but watching these three get their HEA is so worth it.

This book is 400 pages long. Probably could have cut half of it without damaging the story line. The characters spent an inordinate amount of time misunderstanding each other, which is a trope that I despise. They are supposed to be best friends; they constantly tell each other things along the lines of, “I got your back”, “You can trust me”, “You can talk to me”, but then they go YEARS without voicing their real feelings for each other. *face palm*

Other than that painful plot point, it was well written. Key information about Kulani’s past is revealed. If this information is not rehashed in Book 4, then readers will definitely want to get the details here. However, Michele indicated that readers might want to skip this entire book due to an event where a child is separated from loved ones (chapter 22 was harsh), so I suspect she will relate all the relevant Kulani facts in Book 4. Would I read this book again? Honestly, I could probably skip it.

I've been waiting for Jude's book since I started the series. I love him and Kulani and River. They're all a bunch of clueless cinnamon rolls. The whole clueless thing lasted a while and it was kind of frustrating to read but they got there. And they're all just so cute. This was a great addition to the series.

I have read many shifter series but this series is becoming my favorite… the details, the trauma, the love that heals it’s all there and the best part is that the sex part is not the heart of the story the characters are. Truly a beautiful story

5.0 out of 5 stars Very slow burn love story

These companion stories to the Magi series by Michele Notaro are fun additions that add some to the overall story line but are more focused on relationships. This book has River, Kulani and Jude being delightfully oblivious that they all like each other a bit more than you would like a friend. I got frustrated with them at one point and felt like jumping into the book and shaking them, which is nothing against the writing and probably just shows that I am rather too invested in this world. Lol. There are some interesting things that happen in the main story and there seems to be some hints of what is to come. Can’t wait!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweetness and slow burn at its best.
Reviewed in Australia on March 24, 2024
I love the companion novels in this world. They're like a sweet interlude between the tense and dangerous battle of the main story.

Jude was one of my fav characters from the start and I'm so glad he got his own story!! Jude deserves all the love and he finds that with River and Kulani.

There is a bit of drama and darkness in this story, going into Kulani's past but it builds a great foundation for the triad and shows how much care they have for each other. We also get to know each character better and I look forward to seeing this new dynamic when we get back to the main story line with Mads and Cos.

This is a fascinating world with so much depth and so many complex parts you can't help but be fully immersed in it as you read. I'm sad we're coming to the end but it's been a truly captivating journey!!!

I really loved this book, as I have the other books in the series. I was quite surprised by the twist in the later half of the book. Can't wait for the remaining books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jude, Kulani, and River finally figure their relationship out
Reviewed in Canada on September 29, 2023
Like the other companion novel(las), this book dials back the angst (most of the time), and really focusses on the pride and a particular relationship. In this case, it’s finally Jude, River, and Kulani’s turn. I didn’t mind the slow pace of the book (the main books are so action-packed, and I like that sex isn’t the be all and end all of these relationships), but I had hoped that there’d be a bit more of the three of them being in the happy relationship together. They all have similar doubts and uncertainties about the other two, so there’s a lot of time spent being unhappy or not thinking they can actually have what they want. This does make sense on the one hand, since they are all new to polyamory, all traumatised, and all friends and pack mates who don’t want to risk messing up existing relationships. But it was a lot of pining without a lot of progress for a fair chunk of the novel (especially when 2/3 of them have a really strong sense of smell, not to mention to entire rest of the nosy pack knows how they feel).

I did really enjoy Jude’s not-a-date (lol), the break from so much action in the main books, learning more about Kulani’s past, and the understanding they showed to one another in their friendship and then in their relationships. They’re all very good at caring for one another, and it was lovely to see that really solid base to help them overcome any uncertainties. It’s nice to see the life they have when they aren’t just working. I also enjoyed that we could see in this book concrete steps that were being taken to try to find the Red Cloth. Although a lot of it was frustrating, it felt like real investigation and sensible buy-in to a massive problem. Looking forward to the next book!
