Emergents Academy: A Dystopian Novel (Academy of the Apocalypse Book 1) Kindle Edition
Things were looking up for the future of the nation…until the members of the Cult of the Devoted and the teenagers of the Army of the Unsettled decided to light the fuse for an all-out civil war.
Now, a special Academy—hidden high in the mountains and designed as a school to train young Emergents in the use of their abilities—is being forced into the fight. On the brink of a new global apocalypse, the mysterious raven-whisperer Branwynne and the techno-genetically enhanced teenagers of the Emergents Academy find themselves entangled in a three-way battle for power, where survival is doubtful, peace is impossible, and death is inevitable.

About the author

K. A. Riley is the author of many Dystopian and Fantasy books including Recruitment, The Cure, The Amnesty Games, and Thrall. In her spare time, she loves walking her drooling pup, traveling, and interacting with readers on TikTok while chugging copious amounts of coffee. She may or may not also eat plentiful chocolate while on the treadmill.
It's a lifestyle.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2021Good Read seems like the series is shifting gears all the time. You won’t be able to put it down.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2021After reading the first 3 trilogies in the emergents series, and ABSOLUTELY LOVING THEM, this book is a refreshing change! As much as we love Kress' POV of her and her conspiracy's adventures and missions, this new POV is just as amazing as the previous 9 books! A great continuation of the story without being the same POV as the other books! I for one, can not wait for book 2! K. A. Riley is my new favorite author!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2021Love the basis of the continuing story from the perspective of one of the characters we met already. Loved the way that the characters we were introduced to in the last book were brought to life in this book. I love the developing relationships. I loved that the original characters were well represented and developed in this continuing story.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2021This book was great! I couldn’t put it down! K.A. Riley’s books never get worse as the series goes on, and all of these books keep the same good quality throughout the entire series.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2024The main character was much too snarky and simply mean for me to want to continue reading.
100 pgs into book #1 had me wondering if the contempt at that level would carry through. I opened book #3 at a random page to read the main character say "maybe a boy would like you if you weren't such a stank faced b*!ch."
That decided it for me...I'm DNF'ing this particular trilogy.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2022Beginning with uncertainty, but you gain more and more as you continue on with these new and exciting characters!!:-). I love still being able to connect with Kress and her Conspiracy too!!:-). Tons of action and surprises!!:-). Super fun read and introduction to the Emergents Academy!!:-). Can’t WAIT to read more!!:-)
- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2022I'm glad the author carried on the storyline from Branwynne's perspective.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful writing
I am loving the Emergents Academy, enjoying it just as much as its nine predecessors. Riley has a wonderful way of creating many different characters and developing full and uique personalities for all of them. It's fascinating that the author can keep this story going through all of these novels and never let the story drag. He/she obviously knows adolescents intimately. I recommend the entire series highly.
