Empty Net (Seattle Serpents) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 2,057 ratings

I have two goals this season:
1. Stop enough pucks to get the Seattle Serpents to the playoffs.
2. Don’t fall for my fake fiancée.

When Lilah Maddison’s mother keeps trying to set her up on dates she’s not interested in, she blurts out that she’s already seeing someone. The problem? She’s single.

So, I step in to help and agree to pretend to be her boyfriend for an event. But when things go awry, we’re no longer just dating—we’re engaged. Now, I have to find a way to keep her family off her back and our team in a playoff spot, all without falling in love with Lilah, which seems more impossible with each passing day.

She’s funny, driven, drop-dead gorgeous, and not afraid to make the first move. I know we’re playing a dangerous game, yet I can’t stop myself from having feelings I definitely shouldn’t be having, especially not for my fake fiancée.

It’s my job to block, make saves, and keep the puck out of my own net, but this might be one match I can’t win…and I might not want to.

EMPTY NET is a standalone hockey romance novel. There's a cinnamon roll goalie (who is a very good boy)who is fake engaged to a headstrong heroine, found family vibes, slightly unhinged group chats with teammates, plenty of steam, and a happy ending.

Perfect for fake dating/hockey romance lovers!
Thank you Teagan Hunter for an eARC of Empty Net! If you know me, you know I LOVE a good fake relationship in my romance books. This one DELIVERED. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Our cinnamon roll southern gentleman, Arthur Fox, doesn’t hesitate to be there for Liliah when her mother is being insufferable. & once he’s there for her, he doesn’t leave her side & watching their relationship develop & deepen was EVERYTHING I didn’t know I needed! Lilah is a strong, fierce, independent woman & I loved how her & Fox complemented each other’s personalities SO well! They may be opposites in some ways but their chemistry was off the charts. 📈 I just love them together!! & once again the found family was *chef’s kiss* 🧑🏻‍🍳💋. I always love the texting convos in these books! & I can’t wait to continue the series with Locke’s & Keller’s books. •• what to expect •• 💜sports romance (pro hockey) 💜friends to lovers 💜fake dating/fake engagement 💜opposites attract 💜found family 💜he calls her “sugar” 💜he’d do anything for her!

Excellent, fun, read with a slow-ish burn that turns into 🔥🔥🔥 once it ignites!

Fox is the good boy (😉) of the group & he can't help but step right in when Lilah needs help. She didn't ASK for help, wasn't sure she really WANTED help, but nevertheless, Fox was giving it.

I love these two together! They're fun and sweet and oh so confused when the lines blur & they start catching feelings. I love the way they stand up for each other & encourage each other. I love that Fox collects turtles (like me)! 🐢🐢🐢 I adore the Serpent chat threads & the guys' friendships. And Lilah & Auden's friendship!! 🩷

The emotions in this were spot on for me. And the tease at the end of the next couple...!! 😁

    😍🐢😍

I really liked this book. Two people who felt differently about love, but found their match?! Yes, please. I loved that he noticed all her quirks. She didn't have to tell him, he just paid attention. I wish there was more on her parents. Did they really not reach out? Not even an, "I'm sorry?" What about her sister? How did she feel about it all? It's really not needed, but I would have liked a little more on them. Just an overview. I would still recommend, it really is good. Though there were other couples, that I'm guessing have their own story? So maybe read those before this if you need more context. I'm looking forward to Locke's story & even Keller's. On to the next!

This book is a gem for hockey romance lovers! I thoroughly enjoyed Fox and Lilah's story. Fox just might be my new favorite. My only complaint is, does Missouri count as the South? It's more Midwest to me. I will let it slide though since Fox was the perfect southern gentleman. Loved that accent and his wonderful family! Lilah's parents are horrendous. I am glad she found/formed her own family with Auden. I think it was important to highlight that abuse can be emotional, not just physical and we get to see that with her.
*Special shoutout-I screamed in joy when she read the vampire book to Fox. I have been a BDB fan for years now so loved seeing it get some highlighted in this book. Now what dragon book were they reading?

    FMC: Lilah Maddison
    MMC: Arthur Fox, Goalie
    Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
    Pages: 361
Tropes: Hockey Romance, Fake Engagement, Friends to Lovers, He Falls First
    Setting: Seattle, Washington

Thoughts: This was a great sports romance with some themes I related to more than I wanted to admit. Fox was such a nice guy and I especially related to that. And Lilah’s need to make her parents proud while somehow maintaining her independence and her own dreams/goals was very well done and added a layer of emotion that was needed to the plot. I really liked the amount of hockey on page and the relationship between the “Seattle Serpents Singles”. This was an all around good read that fit perfectly with the rest of the series.

I truly think this book has solidified for me that the Seattle Serpents series is my all-time favorite series from Teagan Hunter.

I laughed, I cried, I raged a little, I swooned a lot, and I ate up every single part of it. Sweet and thoughtful, Fox is the true definition of a southern gentleman. I will say though, the mouth on this man….WOWWWWW. Also, his family is phenomenal and I loved them so much!

I adored Lilah so much. Strong and confident in almost every aspect of her life, I loved watching her give in to Fox’s good boy charm. These two are the true definition of opposites attract, and it was perfection. I love that we get to catch up with the previous book couples, and that ending…I can’t wait for the next book!

I love fox!! He is adorable. And such a cinnamon role. He is sweet to his core, but with the right amount of spice behind closed doors. He has quite the dirty mouth and I am here for it. Lilac is his perfect match making him step outside his comfort zone. And he forces her to see how much more she could have in life. Loved the story. Glad her parents finally got a tongue lashing ugh. They are horrible. Can’t wait for Locke!

Teagan’s books are always the best comfort reads for me. Sports, fake relationship, banter, laughter, swoony moments, chemistry. The books always it all. This book was so good. I loved how much of a cinnamon roll, golden retriever hero Fox was. Loved what a gentleman he was. Lilah was a strong easy going woman. Loved how she went with the flow. Especially when Fox asked if she trusted him. I loved how Fox stood up for Lilah. Loved how they handled the situation with her parents. The chemistry between Fox and Lilah is so evident. Loved watching them fall for each other. And of course one of the best things about the Serpents books is the group chat. The group chat is absolutely hilarious!!

It was great getting back into the Seattle Serpents world. This time up its goalie Fox who is the next player to find love. Of course, like all of the past guys the journey to love isn’t easy. Fox agrees to be Lilah’s fake date to her father’s birthday party. Her mother is constantly trying to fix her up with duds and she is tired of it. Things get really interesting when the fake date ends up to be an engagment!

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite hockey Teagan hockey hero to date!

Please don't tell Miller any of this! For fans of Teagan Hunter's hockey series, this book is an absolute delight. For fans of hockey romance this book ticks all the boxes. For fans of a cinnamon roll/golden retriever hero, please dive in and don't look back.

Full disclosure, I'm usually not a fan of fake dating books. But this book made me reconsider why I have such strongly held beliefs on tropes because all my preconceive apprehensions went out the window. I read this in one sitting. Couldn't put it down. Couldn't get enough of Artie and Lilah. Their dynamic is so delectable! She's a bit of a top and he's ok giving her the berth she needs to feel good about herself.

May all the strong women find their Fox to a soft safe place to rest when the world is just too much! In times where hate is so prevalent around us, to have a book so filled with love was just the hug I needed!

Reviewed in Canada on April 12, 2025
When Fox overhears Lilah's toxic parents, making her feel small, the southern gentleman couldn't help but come to her aid. Fox went from friend to boyfriend to engaged very quickly in an effort to protect Lilah. Lilah was hesitant to accept his help, believing love was something she didn’t need. She agreed to the charade to help Fox have more fun and relax during the season. Soon, their charade was benefitting both, and the lines between fake and real were blurring.

I love Fox and Lilah. Fox is the perpetual good boy on the team. The protector, their goalie, who overthinks and gets stressed over his mistakes on the ice. Lilah is the business woman who doesn't take credit for what she has done due to the toxic belittling from her parents. She is sassy, more than sweet, and needs someone to show her her worth. Fox and Lilah are a force to be reckoned with.

Empty Net is the newest installment in the Seattle Serpent's series and is as amazing as the other three books. I recommend reading them all if you haven't already.

    📚BOOK REVIEW📚

    Empty Net - @teaganhunterwrites

"You fell in love with my goalie stretches"

"You, Arthur Fox, are somehow nothing and everything like I thought you would be"

"I've always wanted to be someone's good luck charm" "You can be mine, Lilah"

"I am in love with you, Lilah Jane, and I refuse to apologise for it"

I am absolutely loving this series and I have only read two out of the four books so far. So it's exciting I've still got others to read. I've come into this series late and although they are interconnected it's not spoiling my enjoyment and I am excited to go back and read the others.

Arthur Fox may just be one of the greatest MMC's ever! He is all types of swoonworthy and loveable. He's the perfect hero as he ends up stepping in to save Lilah from her horrible parents, especially her mother. She always puts her down and knocks her confidence and is always trying to set her up on dates that she doesn't want.

When Fox overhears Lilah on the phone and notices she is upset he can't help rescuing her from the situation. And so they begin fake dating which soon turns into a fake engagement but somewhere along the line they both fall and hard.

This love story was so good. I loved how they were opposites but it just worked. Fox was a calming presence and I liked how he took care of Lilah. Lilah was a great character and they had great chemistry together as well as real friendship in their relationship. I loved them both and together they were well suited.

As always in hockey romances I love the banter between all the players. The text exchanges were funny and bring a lot of humour to the book.

Another winner for me. This is a fab and strong hockey series and delight for those that enjoy this genre.
