About the authors
Award-winning and USA Today Bestselling Author, Astrid V.J. was born in South Africa. She is a trained social anthropologist and certified transformational life coach. She currently resides in Sweden with her husband and their two children. In early childhood, she showed an interest in reading and languages—interests which her family encouraged. Astrid started writing her first novel at age 12 and now writes fantasy in a variety of genres, exploring her passion for cultures and languages. When she isn’t writing, Astrid likes to read, take walks in nature, play silly games with her children, do embroidery, and play music.
Astrid writes transformation fiction: incorporating transformation principles in novels, rather than writing another self-help book. She loves exploring the human capacity for transformation and potential to achieve success in the face of adversity. Astrid is interested in minority group questions, considerations on social standards of beauty and the negative consequences these have, and would like to make the fantasy genre accessible to people of non-white, non-Christian backgrounds. Astrid feels the fantasy genre has become too restrictive with limited representations of race, ethnicity and culture. She seeks to explore other paths on this writing journey, incorporating her background in anthropology and psychology to create engaging experiences, which also provide food for thought on the diverse topics she finds most important. These include: racism, minority rights, cultural diversity, culture change, intolerance, humanity’s environmental impact, the representation of people on the autism spectrum in among the general populace, the human capacity for transformation, and much more.
Sky is a USA Today bestselling indie author who writes twisted fairytales and quirky romantasy with snark and giggles. She loves snappy comebacks from slightly stabby heroines and secrets peeling back like onions.
A secret eco-warrior, she has co-published several charity anthologies with other amazing indie authors, collecting funds in support of our oceans, rainforests, wildfire appeal and hurricane relief (the Enchanted Anthologies series) as well as in aid of literacy and reading (What's in a Name? anthologies series).
All her books are linked by some character or another (yet are standalones) and she likes to make you choose the ending - HEAs for optimists vs HFNs for pessimists - 'coz the decisions we make colour the paths we take. (Well, except in the Magic Mirrors saga aka Cinders-Embers-Ash trilogy - because only Douglas Adams could pull off a trilogy in 5 parts.)
She lives in Tallinn, Estonia, in a house with a small garden with her husband and two, but on occasion plus three kids. No dog.
Besides fairytales, Sky keeps experimenting with different genres: post-apocalyptic dystopian, alternative history and dark romantasy to name a few.
You can connect with Sky on socials and delve into her multiverse on her author page.
Elena Shelest immigrated to the U.S. from Ukraine at the age 15. She currently resides in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with her family and pets.
Elena is an artist and a motivational blogger. Her works of fiction are filled with fantasy, romance, self-actualization, and lots of hope. She wishes to encourage her readers to look beyond what's possible and believe in everyday miracles.

Alice is a USA Today Bestselling author. She lives in Bristol, UK, and has loved fantasy all her life. Her favourite authors are Brandon Sanderson and Holly Black. When she's not off gallivanting in other worlds, you can find her looking after her young son, working as a small animal vet, hanging out with her church family, or walking the best dog in the world with her husband.
Lyndsey Hall lives on the edge of Sherwood Forest, one of the most magical places in England's history, and the inspiration for her debut novel, The Fair Queen. She grew up surrounded by books, and loved to write from a young age.
She loves to travel and try her hand at new things, but is most at home when curled up in a chair with a cup of tea and a good book, usually accompanied by at least one dog.

Ben Lang is a fantasy and mythology obsessive who loves monsters, adventures and exotic lands. His stories aim to include an awesome setting, a great monster and an emotive plot. He lives in Nottingham, UK at the sufferance of Megan who tolerates his over-consumption of tea and eternal state of foggy optimism.
Thanks for reading, good luck outwitting any monsters that find you.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2022This was a really surprising read for me. I have recently become very fascinated with water-based fantasy, but for me that means mostly mermaids. So for some unknown reason I expected lots of mermaids. We do get "The Arctic Mermaid" - and I definitely loved that story! But I was so surprised to also enjoy A LOT the rest of the stories, which are about other water creatures. Some of them I didn't even know existed (in lore), to be honest. Besides "The Arctic Mermaid", I also loved "Daughter of the Selkie King", especially since I've read one other book in the same universe and it was nice to see more of that world. The narrator was also a great choice, she had the perfect tempo and tone for creating a fairytale mood.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2021Such a beautiful collection of short stories. Each one was unique and colored by each author's unique voice. I think there is a little something for everyone to love here. Action. Adventure. Fantasy. Drama. Horror. Romance. Fables. I loved that each story was so different from the next, and I genuinely want to dive deeper into some of the worlds written about in Enchanted Waters. Alice Ivinya's stories were chilling and well written. Ben Lang's story felt like a fable from another time, and I was super impressed by the style. N.D.T. Casale is a strong writer and a great new voice on the fantasy writing scene. I look forward to reading more from her in the future. This is definitely a collection of short stories that you don't want to miss! Skip around and read a story here and there or power through it like a chapter book! Either way this marvelous anthology is one you'll want on your shelf.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2021In this beautiful anthology, of which all proceeds go to the charity Oceana, dedicated solely to ocean conservation, we get TEN water enchanted stories! My favorites were (in no particular order) Daughter of the Selkie King - the ending had me wanting MORE, Merrily Merrily - because I loved getting a little backstory on Zane (from A Soul as Cold as Frost) The Arctic Mermaid - because I'm a sucker for love and Heartless Melody because it is the prequel to Silent Melody, which I am a huge fan of and we get an awesome, heartbreaking story on sweet Peter.
Overall, I enjoyed this book immensely. I am a dreamer and this book is filled with fantastic dreamy worlds that I myself wish I could write about. Filled with Selkie's, Pirates turned protector's of all things to do with tradition and Christmas, Kelpie's, Shido's, Princely Frogs, Sea Ghosts, Naiad's, Mermaid's, Pipers and water nymphs, Mavki and underwater Tsar's. The stories gripped me, the characters made me smile and had me cheering them on and a few left me wanting more as the ending was so abrupt, which was quite smart for those authors to do! Leave us needing more and needing to pickup the stories that follow.
I applaud these authors for putting their hearts and souls into such wonderful stories and giving to such a worthy cause. Definitely worth the purchase and was time well spent. Grab your copy today!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2023Loving the water as I do, this book was a must-have for me. Luckily, I added the audio version to the text as well. My favorite story in this collection (although all were excellent) was 'Wishing Well' by Elena Shelest. I sat on my apartment balcony overlooking our pond and listened and imagined as the narrator told the story. The scenes and characters she writes are true to life and so well written. I enjoyed the book and hope more anthologies like this one will follow.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2021This review is solely for Daughter of the Selkie King, one of the short stories in this book. Delta is an eighteen year old girl who has never been in the water. The stories of creatures living in their depths has kept her away along with her mother's warning. After her friends convince her to dip her toes into a hot spring, everything changes when a selkie boy appears and seems to know Delta. When Delta's mother finds out it opens up past secrets and Delta must make a powerful decision. Since this was a short story I did expect there to be somewhat of an ending, but was left with a major cliff hanger instead. Maybe that was the author's aim, but unfortunately it wasn't what I was looking for in this read. I still gave it three stars because I did like what was written, although at times for being a short story it felt super rushed in parts and dragged on in others where it wasn't neccesary.
Thank you to Story Origin for a review copy.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2022I loved the collection or stories. I love the range the book showed. These authors did an amazing job.
I particularly like Naiad's Curse by Astrid V.J. I like the world she created in such a short time.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2021An enchanting collection of stories that carry you from one imaginary world into another. With every tale come reminders of some earthly values that ties the reader back to a world of realities. Fun to read.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2021This book is not only amazing to read but also beautiful. I love the collection of stories. They flow together well but also are beautifully independent. Highly recommend! 😍

5.0 out of 5 stars Enchanted short story collection
This is is a magical collection of stories written by a highly skilled group of writers. I loved some stories more than others because I love twists that you do not see coming at all.
The writers respect and love for the ocean, and the water, and their joy of telling stories of magical sea creatures, despite their different styles, brings this collection together beautifully.
All proceeds from this book are going to Oceana who, among other aspects of the charity organisation, are currently trying to restore the world’s wild fish population to serve as a sustainable source of protein for people.

5.0 out of 5 stars The stories are just TOO GOOD to read slowly...
This book is full of 5-star stories, and I could write a full review for each because I enjoyed them that much. These stories are too good to read slowly, and I completely failed as an advanced reader. Having read and reread this book over the last 6 months, I am still not sure I can give this book the review it deserves. I have now bought my own copy of the book, and one for a friend - it is that good.
As I mentioned, I had to keep reading and rereading the stories - and each time I read them through I pick up new things. There was only one story which I didn't have to reread immediately I finished it, which was also the shortest in the book. I have revisited that one a number of times over the last 6 months too.
The stories are such a diverse mix of fantasy. There is a tale from a Scottish loch beside a desert tale with Asian echoes. There is a pirate. There are nixies, naiads and selkies. Some are enchanted by our human world, others are busy enchanting us. Some are good, some are evil, most are somewhere in between. All the stories are captivating.
Astrid VJ's story is the other side of her book "Naiya's Wish". I highly recommend reading both, and being able to read both together gives an even better experience! Hans Christian Andersen's "Nixie in the Mill Pond" will never be the same.
