    “Entwined: Torn Between Two Lovers,” by Kris Holbeck, is a novella length steamy romance told in first person, present tense. The MC is Merriam, a 40-something rich widow who lives alone on a sprawling property in Montana. She is financially well off, having a successful family business, from which she is now semi-retired. She gets involved with two men, a 20-something college grad, Caleb, a half-breed Native American, and her first husband, Hisham, a wealthy businessman. Despite the obvious commonalities she shares with Hisham, the romantic spark she feels with Caleb is unmatched.
    Going by the title, I expected a cheesy story, but this one is thoughtful with well-drawn characters; I give it 4.5 stars, averaged up to a 5. Although this is a novella, it is not a quick read; rather it is heavy with introspection and details, some of which could have been left out. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the story. There are editing issues throughout, mostly minor. To illustrate, here is a memorable passage: “The ripple of emotions warp his face and I’m not quick enough to dodge the right hook. Suddenly, I’m sitting in a soft pile of something that smells hot and musty and I can see the metal ceiling above me.” So, the writing is sparkling despite the missing two commas, and the book is well worth reading.

    Meriam's extremely comfortable life on her spacious Montana ranch is thrown into emotional turmoil when she finds herself (as the subtitle warns us) torn between two lovers—her one-time husband Hisham and the local cowboy Caleb who is renting some land from her for grazing his cattle.
    There's plenty of sex in this novella for those looking for that kind of sizzle. But there's not enough emotion to make the story fully satisfying. We don't get a strong sense of the characters, what makes them tick, or eve what makes them appealing to each other beyond their sexual prowess.
    But that's a quibble. This short book delivers what readers of this sort of story ask of it: sizzle.

    This story would have worked better as a novel than a novella. There's too much content to cover in such a short time. At times the story was rushed and other times it seemed to drag a bit. I am also not usually a fan of love triangle stories, though I will say that I liked the characters and that kept me interested in the plot to see where it was going.

    This was such a good love triangle romance amongst Merriam, Caleb and Hisham. Merriam is forty years old and a widow. Her character was so rich and realistic - I could really empathize with her loneliness her worries on aging, and most importantly how and why she's so torn between the new spark developing between her and Caleb, and the comfort of slipping into her old role with Hisham. The chemistry between Merriam and her love interests is off the charts, especially with young cowboy Caleb. There's an inherent sadness in the love triangle romance but the conclusion, which I won't spoil, is satisfying and feel-good. Overall, lots of spice, but also real depth to the characters and just an amazingly well-written short romance.

    This is a very well written steamy romance, well edited too.
    Merriam, in her 40s, is a widow who misses her husband. A rich Jetsetter she has time on her hands and returns to the estate her husband bought for her.
    Into her life come two very opposite men, one rich and a bit ruthless, the other poorer and more down to earth. Will she be able to choose between them as her intimate relationship with both men grows?
    Lots of people will really enjoy this romance, however, for me personally I found the characters lacking in emotions and therefore they felt a bit wooded to me. This is just how I found them, but it is a very well written book.

    I liked that the main female lead was older and the one with money, that was different. I feel like the story skipped the relationship development stage though. Like for the Caleb's storyline, they went from casually hooking up three times (only the first one was actually described) to saying they love each other. I'm not sure how we got there and why, like what was the reason they fell for each other besides good time in the sheets. The other storyline skipped that too but it's more understandable there since they used to be married. I think for a good romance story, those parts are quite important.

    We are presented with the story of Merriam, who is around 40, a widow, incredibly good looking, and terribly wealthy. Add to the plot a twenty something college guy and her first husband, who is also rich, and you have a love triangle for the win.

    This short book of approximately one hundred and thirty pages is closer to a quick read novella. Even though it may seem like a typical plot of a woman having to choose between two different kinds of men, the good writing and plot twists got me hooked and entertained. And don't forget, if you are here for the steamy scenes, you will get your fair share. Despite its brevity, the story offers rich character development and a captivating narrative that keeps readers engaged from start to finish.
