4.5 out of 5 stars 264 ratings

A royal celebration. A shocking death. An impossible crime.

It’s the annual fair in Hampsworthy Downs to celebrate the Queen’s birthday. But just as the festivities get underway, disaster strikes.

Fischer bolts from the dog show, urgently followed by Penny, who fears he’ll run into the road. But he stops short and when she catches up, he’s standing over a body.

As the police investigation begins, Penny and Fischer start sleuthing. There’s no shortage of people who loathed the victim, but no one was nearby when he died. It seems like an impossible crime.

However, Penny is unaware that if the case isn’t solved quickly, another will die.

Can she and Fischer find the clues, sift lies from truth and unmask the culprit before the body count doubles?

Pick up the fourth cozy mystery featuring British sleuthing duo Finch & Fischer, and follow them as they attempt to solve a series of crimes in the six villages and hamlets that make up Hampsworthy Downs.

I am looking forward to Penny & John, how fun. As a lover of dogs & mysteries, I can't get enough.

I enjoy the characters especially "Fish Face". Penny has an Interesting job, driving the library van, and a great way to enjoy her neighbors/customers. Although it is also an easy way for her to get information. I enjoy the stories for light reading.

Fatality at the Fair is Book 4 in A Finch and Fischer Mystery by J New. I enjoy this series and I thought book 4 was excellent. Great Britain is celebrating the Queen's birthday and Penny Finch and her dog, Fischer are enjoying the local activities; that is until Derek Cotton is found with an arrow sticking out of him. I like the characters and the author did a great job of making Derek very disagreeable. I found this cozy was a good mystery with a new "friend" for Penny. I can't wait to read the next book, Driven to Death. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.

Book 4 in a delightful series that I’m looking forward to reading more of! Penny Finch, with her little dog Fischer (who she affectionately calls Fish Face, is a librarian with a mobile library that she drives to surrounding areas. Wonderful characters), including her friend Susie and John, with the police constabulary, add to the reading enjoyment. And Fisher has to be the smartest and friendliest dog, full of antics to make you smile. I received a free copy of this book and write this review voluntarily.

3.5 stars An enjoyable cozy, with Penny and her dog Fischer (love her nickname for him!). The English country fair is well described (I think so anyway, I haven't been to one), the plot has enough twists to keep you involved and the characters are engaging. It was marred only by a need for better proofreading. I would like to read more. - I'm leaving this honest review after receiving an advance copy.

All the "Finch & Fischer" books are enjoyable, and this one is no exception. Penny's dog Fischer has a large supporting role in every book and is incredibly cute. I enjoy Penny's routine as the mobile librarian - my sister ran a bookmobile in eastern Colorado in her youth. I highly recommend the entire series.

Such an enjoyable series. Characters nicely described & the scenery. Quaint cluster of villages & the ever present Murder. Well written, no gory details & bad language. Hope there are more to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good read

This is a great cosy mystery series, which centres around 6 villages served by a mobile library run by Penny, who always has her little dog, Fischer, with her. Penny has a habit of discovering dead bodies and getting involved in solving their deaths, along with the local police.

These are easily read in a few hours, and they are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and wider storyline.

If you like cosy mystery, this is a good series to read.

A good story and likeable characters. Pity it's so short, only just qualifies as a novel.

A very enjoyable read following Penny, the village’s mobile librarian and her adorable little Jack Russel’s quest to find out who “dunnit”, a murder committed at one of the surrounding village fair. You will get easily transported into Penny’s world, her sleuthing mind, and will enjoy the scenery, as if you were there yourself.

I love the way that the characters are brought to life and the story unfolds that the reader gets to the conclusion with Penny but as a Jack Russell owner Fischer takes the biscuit!
