From Lala’s Book Reviews (Actual rating is 3.5 stars) TW/CW: body shaming, suicide, sexual harassment, drug and alcohol use, and sexual assault I’m not sure what I was expecting when I decided to read this book. I knew that there was a romantic relationship with a rockstar musician because that’s what lead me to pick up the book, but I wasn’t expecting the amount of trauma that both Connor and Ronni had gone through during their early life that has shaped their adult life. The layout of the book took some time to get use to because it started in the past with the very beginning of Ronni’s then it jumped to the present then back to the past then back to the present then finally the story stayed in the past and progressed throughout the time leading up to the present without jumping back. Once the story stopped jumping back and forth and just stayed in the the past, the story was a lot more enjoyable, but if you weren’t paying attention to the new chapter page, you’d be confused for a hot second before you notice because anywhere from weeks to months could have passed with the last chapter. Over all, I enjoyed the book, but I’m not sure if I’d read it again. I feel likes it’s hard for me to put into words how I feel about the book because Ronni’s past which is uncovered throughout the book makes it hard for her to trust others leaving her inner circle to her mom and her manger/agent and maybe a few others throughout time. Ronni ends up meeting meeting Connor and the rest of the guys from LTZ. From the first moment that they talked, there was an instant connection that neither could deny, and it was Connor’s rockstar ego that let Ronni get away that night thinking she’d follow him. With no contact from the other until they are boarded on the same private jet to Australia as the band is getting ready for band stuff and Ronni as she gets ready to part way with her mother’s ashes on a trip that she wishes that they could have taken together. During that long ride, Ronni realizes that there’s more to this large gruff man than his rockstar size ego, and Connor starts to see this strong woman that Hollywood loves to judge. They let the other in after sometime, yet there’s always this unknown things that hangs in their way that slowly gets discovered as you keep reading. One of the things that makes communication so hard between these two characters is Ronni’s secret project that could take down her career, take down some of the monsters that has haunted so much her adult life, or just make her seem like it’s a waste of time. Her past has made it difficult for her to trust, but it isn’t the lack of trust in Connor once we reach a certain part of the book, but Ronni’s previous survival skill of having to rely on herself to get things done that keeps her from telling Connor everything. Will all that being said, I think that Ronni and Connor had to face the ups and downs that they did because even though there was an instant connection and their relationship was good in the beginning before life got real, all of the tribulations really made them realize who special the other was and how much they needed them in their lives.
