4.4 out of 5 stars 124 ratings

Music used to be what she lived for.
Now, it may be the thing that kills her.

Emily Dawson has been running since she was sixteen years old.
From pain. Abuse. From the memories entwined with the notes that used to inspire her.
But no matter how far she goes, her past is always lurking, waiting, ready to attack.
She’s trapped in the melody that haunts her dreams and waking hours.
Music is dead to her. So why can’t she seem to walk away?

Music is all he has.
Now, it may be the thing that causes him to lose everything.

Mark Pierce hasn’t stayed in one place since age fifteen.
Violin prodigy. Teenage classical music superstar. World tours.
Over a decade of being on the road, Mark seizes an opportunity for change, having no idea how he’ll survive it.
Then he meets Emily, and hope ignites in his chest.
Maybe the only thing he’s needed to plant roots is
her.

There’s so much more to Emily than meets the eye. A darkness surrounds her, snuffing out her light every time it dares to shine through.
Mark is determined to piece together the broken melody inside Emily’s soul.
Will Emily be able to confront her demons and surrender to Mark’s love, or will the darkness win, killing his gift of life-giving music?

Author of Gut-Wrenching Darkness

"If Stephen King got together with Tom Clancy and wrote an erotica book...,"

...is how Marissa describes her books when asked. She doesn't seek to write any particular genre, style, or length, only following her gut instincts and the lead of her characters. The Life of Anna crosses many genre lines including erotica, suspense, psychological thriller, horror, political conspiracy, paranormal, and romance. Marissa's story of Anna began with a dream about being kidnapped with Adam Savage from Mythbusters (Yes, really). Over the next year and a half, it morphed into the story that is now known as "The Life of Anna." She has also published Distorted Hope, which is based on her kidnapped dream. Abandoned Grace was published last year as a side story to The Life of Anna.

Marissa stays busy running her household, fending off two adorable kittens, and interacting with her readers on social media. She is a self-proclaimed geek and is striving to learn the basics of graphic design. She is also actively pursuing a more natural lifestyle, which includes essential oils, natural cleaning products, and whole, organic foods. Marissa's addictions include the Science and History Channels, anything chocolate mint, vintage books, cute kitty cats and laughter.

Marissa has outdone herself yet again! This author is an instant 1-click for me, as I simply love her writing. This story did not disappoint. If you are a fan of Distorted Hope, then you will realize that the hero is Mark Pierce: his parents met during that story. He is now a musical prodigy & living his best life when he has a chance meeting with Emily/Emma. Emma is simply existing in a living hell, surviving a traumatic childhood to end up in similar abusive life as a 21 year old. Marissa put so much love & effort into this story, going above and beyond to explain the world of music, instruments & the orchestra. She even linked music to certain parts of the book which adds an entirely different feel as you are reading & hearing the music. This was outstanding & I enjoyed every minute of it! I loved having a few of my favorite characters Anna & Sabrina's stories make an appearance too! Well done, Marissa & I cannot wait for your next book!

I loved the way this story unfolded. From the title, I knew that music would be a focal point of the story but had no idea just how emotional the impact would be on the characters or me as a reader. I am in awe of the way the author made you feel and even see the music, bringing "sound" to the page in a way I've never seen before.

There's so much heartache in this story but there's also so much hope. Emily/Emma has been betrayed and br0ken by her music, f0rcing her to turn her back on it and live a life that continues to br€ak her even further. She's just trying to surv1ve for however long that may be...but then she hears the sounds of a violin in the subway. As much as the music pa1ns her to hear, it also draws her in and the beauty and passion of the man playing even more so.

Mark's passion may be music, but he's instantly drawn to the woman in the subway. He can't get her out of his head and seeks her out, determined to get past her walls. Their story is far from easy, but well worth the painful bumps in the road.

    As always, mind your tr1ggers.

This book is a standalone book and does end with an HEA, but just be aware there are trigger warnings. The book revolves around Emily Dawson and Mark Pierce (who we met in the ending of the Finding Sabrina series). Emily loved playing the violin and looked forward to a future of playing with major orchestra companies, but it all changed at the age of 16, when she went into hiding or so she thought as we learn towards the end her tormentors knew where she was. Mark is a talented violinist and performs with a few different symphony orchestra companies, and has been playing since he was a young boy. They meet by chance in a train station in Washington DC, where Emily falls into a spell like trance listening to Mark playing his violin. Seeing her emotions and reactions to the music makes him interested in her, being he's never seen anyone react that way without having a love and understanding of the violin. Of course when he starts to talk to her, she has to run to meet her boss/clients, and he tries to find her but has no luck, so he decides to go back to the train station again and hopefully find her there. The second time is a charm and he convinces her to meet up with him, but as they continue to get closer, she has secrets that could hurt or cause problems for Mark so she keeps him at a distance. To not give much more away I will say that the story really focuses on the past coming back to haunt the present, while building trust, strength, and worth for Emily. It was great getting to see some of the other characters from the Finding Sabrina Series and Life of Anna Series appearing to help Mark and Emily. Being a musician myself and having a music minor in voice and piano this book really drew me in and I could not put it down. I had received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

It had been a while since I read your books but it was so great to find this one that I hadn’t read. And I loved that you brought characters I knew into the story. What a great book.

I enjoyed this book immensely! It’s not as dark as some of Marissa’s other books but there are still dark elements and triggers. The involvement of music woven into the storyline was beautiful. I always like her books and this one follows that same lead. If you love music and a great love story, this is an excellent read.

Love Marrissa’s books. Just wish she could write faster. 😂😂❤️❤️ So happy to hear familiar names included and can’t wait to find out what that was about.

First off, and I’m sure you probably know this book is on the dark side. So beware of triggers. Ok so saying that I will tell you that I like reading on the dark side.. bad things happen in this story. Especially to a young girl until early adulthood. But on the opposite side of the spectrum is the light she finds and the love. How finding herself again and the smiles she feels as her life becomes brighter. I enjoyed reading her story and how truly brave she was. My opinion. 🤓

It's been so good to dive back into a book by Marissa Honeycutt.
Although not as dark as her other books. It's still a brilliant read.
This story centres around Emily and Mark. With David as a great support.
As well as catching up with characters and spoilers from previous books. Although you won't need to read her other stories, as it's a standalone.
I would definitely recommend you to read it. Yes Marissa your passion shines through along with your ability to truly tell a story.

Again Marissa delivers an amazing story. The whole emotional roller coaster is still ever present. Not as dark as her other books so a great start to the dark reads. Great plot and story development. Characters you can’t help but feel their emotions. Now let’s talk playlist, play it while you read I had so many emotions while listening to it while I read. Even my dog enjoyed it. Thank you Marissa.
