One Little Mistake: A Small-Town Enemies-to-Lovers Romance (The Westbrooks: Family Ties Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 2,533 ratings

Easton Westbrook entered my life like an arrogant, grumpy, wrecking ball, and refused to leave.

Our banter is addicting, and nothing I do or say will make him change his mind. But when his mind becomes focused solely on me, I run.

I can’t afford to give my heart away again. Not when I’m barely surviving with the broken one I have.

I have walls up for a reason. Reasons that are none of his business, but Easton is used to getting what he wants. And when he decides he wants me, I’m not sure I’ll survive it.

Lexi Heart entered my life like an arrogant, bossy, she-devil in heels, and I can’t get her out of my head.

She’s always ten steps ahead, and I have to admit, I’m intrigued. With every lash of her sharp tongue, she puts me in my place. But when I peel back the layers of her tough girl exterior, I see the broken shell she’s hiding, and my own walls come crashing down.

We quickly learn that what happens in Vegas doesn’t stay there, and I know I’m done for. I want this girl in every sense of the word, but can I convince her to take a chance on us? Or will the damage from her past be too much, even for true love?

Join Easton and Lexi in their highly emotional journey to a happily ever after. One Little Mistake is an enemy to lovers, accidental marriage romance that will draw you in and refuse to let you go.

Avery Maxwell is an American contemporary romance novelist specializing in emotionally driven characters who bring love, chaos, heat, and a side of angst to every story she writes. She grew up in a tiny Vermont town with one flashing light and four stop signs. If you look closely enough, you can often find similarities between her small hometown and the stories she creates.

Avery now lives in North Carolina with her husband, four mini-humans, and two puppies. She fills her days with carpools and sporting events while using her nights to create stories that are impossible to put down.

When Avery isn’t on mom-duty or busy writing, you can find her at a concert or snuggling on the couch with a glass of wine and her very own Prince Charming.

It's okay to let someone else hold the door!
If I could pick a family to be my family I definitely would pick the Westbrook's. With out reading any further I can absolutely say you need to read this book! Anyone who wouldn't is crazy! Easton Westbrook is well as GG calls him Grumpy. But he's been hurt and being grumpy he seems to think will keep him safe from being hurt again. He's intelligent, he's driven, he's kind and loyal to a fault. But when it comes to feelings and emotions he's not completely on his game. His new assistant and GG's granddaughter Lexi isn't much better but her reasoning is at least more acceptable. Her wounds are fresh her grief is still fairly new. But of course she's not dealing with it she is a fixer of others problems so she can ignore her own. Thank goodness for these two they have meddling family. GG has all but told them they will be together. Preston has warned East not to mess with Lexi which come on, coming from a sibling is like issuing a challenge and then of course there is Mason the BF pushing buttons, Colt the little brother flirting with "his" girl. Then there's the couple themselves who try as they might they can not find reasons to make this easy on each other. That right there is part of what makes this story so great. Lexi and East's story is filled with pain and grief, but it also has so much love and hope. There story is exactly the kind that can only ever get better from here! And that's it no more from me get your own copy it's amazing and I can not wait for the next book!

I am never ever going to agree with the concept that it is okay for a woman to put a man through hell to get her and he makes one little mistake and she’s not happy until she makes him grovel to get her back. Apparently it’s fine for her t say whatever crappy, hurtful thing she wants to to him, but Heaven help him if he hurts her. Enemies to lovers is my least favorite trope. Women who wallow in self-pity and become Grade A witches to assert their independence over men because they got hurt once will never ever be okay with me either. Grow up. Everybody gets hurt.

So this book had a LOT to overcome with me. I never felt an ounce of sympathy for Lexi. I have no idea why Easton kept trying to win her. None of it ever rang true for me. Every real woman I know would have been out-of-her mind grateful for Easton. Sassy, sarcastic, fiery, smart women are all well and good. Mean, dispiriting women will never cut it with me.

BUT, I’m team Westbrook all the way. What an incredible group of men and extended family by choice not blood. It has been my sincere desire through all these books that the women get a clue from matriarch Sylvia. She, GG and Mimi are the women I respect.

Once again, a writer who can get me to feel this strongly about her characters is a good writer. There is a very happy ending although how it’s possible when 95% of the book is her pushing him away and the HEA gets about 2% at the end. Sudden change of personality? The books are entertaining and the storyline engrossing. I’ll keep reading them!

I love Easton! He was the right amount of grumpy, and then he just fell head over heels for Lexi! Swoon! My heart hurt for Easton and the love he lost, and I was happy he was able to resolve his past to be with Lexi, and once he decided she was his, he stuck by her no matter how much she diverted. I was a bit annoyed with Lexi and some of the things she said to Easton, but she did come around for me by the end. Both had some baggage to overcome before they could have their HEA.

I loved the way the author brought in Easton’s zany family and shows what family love should be at their center. The feelings they have for each other and the way they support each other are touching. I laughed, cried, and had to hold onto my heart. I was captivated from the beginning to well past the last page. This is my first book by Avery Maxwell, and I’ve already researched her backlist and will be reading from her first book! I’m so excited to find a new and wonderful author.

    📚 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲: Enemies-to-Lovers, workplace romance

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Easton's newest assistant is way too sexy for him to ignore. But Lexi is broken in so many ways, and getting past the walls around her heart is going to take some serious work.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: Do you ever read a book you like a lot, but when you sit and think about it... it's actually missing a ton?

That's what happened to me here. I really liked the vibe of this book and the characters. I loved that Easton chased Lexi and fell hard and first.

But I'm going to rant, because I realized that I had to work so hard to fill in the blanks the author left. This is definitely not a standalone, and I feel like it would take maybe 30 more pages to just do a better job at developing the backstory.

What exactly does Easton do for a living? What's the Westbrook company? What is Lexi's back story? Who is Miles, who is his family? What actually happened between Lexi and Miles?

I'm getting the feeling these details are in the other Westbrook series. But we are talking about the main characters here, and I shouldn't have to read 4 books and a novella to understand the plot - especially because this is the first in an interconnected character series.
