The Fairfax Redemption: A Jonathon Fairfax Novel Kindle Edition
Ever feel like the whole world is conspiring against you?
Jonathon Fairfax can’t even get on the London Underground without bumping into someone he’s desperate to avoid – like Rachel, his first love, who demolished his heart eleven years ago. She tells him that her terrifying uncle (a man Jonathon knows only as ‘the murderer’) is about to be released from prison.
Does the murderer blame Jonathon for his time inside? Will he seek revenge?
To find out, Jonathon follows him – until the trail ends at a mysterious north London chicken shop, shrouded in sinister rumours. As Jonathon tries to untangle the truth, he gets drawn ever deeper into a web of conspiracy theorists, organised criminals and evil Etonians.
But who should Jonathon really be afraid of? The murderer on the loose or bumbling celebrity politician Teddy Robinson? The Russian mafia or the owner of a chain of chicken shops whose fries – if the dark rumours are true – may not be made of potato?
After all, they can’t all be out to get him … um, can they?
The Fairfax Redemption is the fourth book in the massively popular Jonathon Fairfax series, sure to be loved by fans of Douglas Adams, PG Wodehouse and Caimh McDonnell.
Pick up the latest Jonathon Fairfax novel – sequel to three Amazon bestsellers: The Perpetual Astonishment of Jonathon Fairfax (‘A comic gem’ Stylist, shortlisted for the Bath Novel Award); Jonathon Fairfax Must Be Destroyed (‘A funny, daft-yet-relatable, nerve-jangly thriller’ Emerald Street); and The Spy Who Came in from the Bin (‘Like The Bourne Identity reworked by Douglas Adams’ Scott Pack, Waterstones Head Buyer 2000-6).
The Jonathon Fairfax novels don’t have to be read in order.

About the author

Christopher Shevlin is, essentially, an older, bearded and slightly shorter version of Jonathon Fairfax. He grew up in Yorkshire and spent his whole adult life in London, before going to Berlin to write his second novel, Jonathon Fairfax Must Be Destroyed. The book is set in London.
When life is hard, he has always turned to books for comfort. His favourites include his battered old Jeeves Omnibus, Douglas Adams’s Dirk Gently books, 1066 And All That, the Molesworth books, and Augustus Carp By Himself. His ambition is to write books that are even a tenth as comfortingly odd.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2024Knowing the characters from Jonathan's previous adventures would help a little, but this can be read as a stand alone book. Jonathan, the very likeable but extremely hapless protagonist is once again caught up in an adventure that has his life spiralling out of control. Fortunately, he's surrounded by a cast of extremely interesting characters who all want to protect him. I don't know which character I liked the most - Jonathan; his ex girlfriend who broke his heart ( while he was breaking her heart ); his current girlfriend who loves Jonathan because of, rather than in spite of, his quirks; his genetics lottery winning uber confident best friend; or the murderer.
I liked the story, liked the humor, and loved the cast of characters. This a a fun book.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2024The Fairfax Redemption is a wonderful trip back to hilarious (mis)adventures of Jonathan Fairfax and pretty much all of the interesting characters from the previous three novels. Much like a 15-year class reunion, you will find that some of the folks you thought you knew were not all like they seemed way back when. The story is just as thrilling, witty, and heartwarming as you would expect from the masterful writing of Christopher Shevlin. If this proves to be the last story in the Jonathan Fairfax series, there would be no regrets as it is a perfect culmination of all the previous tales - but if Mr. Shevlin sees to it to weave yet another "series of horribly traumatic events" for our friend Jonathan, I will certainly be the first in line to preorder.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2025I love this whole series. A great read and very funny!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2024I am an avid mystery fan but especially like this series for the added humor. Christopher Shevlin is a master wordsmith that can paint a vivid picture of the scene and his always interesting characters. The mystery is good but the characters interplay is even better.
While this is the 4th in the series, I think it could stand on its own. Once you read it however you’ll rush back to the beginning for the whole backstory.
Definitely worth your time for a chance to get away! Enjoy!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2024I love these books so much. They are so funny and so well written. I often find myself laughing out loud while reading them. I've been waiting for this last one and it did not disappoint. Great story and a lot of fun. Also has a great message about dealing with life's difficulties. Couldn't have come at a more perfect time for me!!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2024Every Jonathan Fairfax book is an awkward adventure. Highly recommend reading all four and following the well drawn characters.
Poor perpetually astonished Jonathan yearns for a calm and rather boring life, but it seems Jonathan can't get through life without "horribly traumatic events." It's impossible!
Shevlin's brilliant satirical writing will make you LOL.
Please write another, Christopher!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2024Witty with the perfect amount amount of complexity and cast of characters, Jonathan Fairfax always prevails in unintentionally making sense of the senseless and reminds the reader that good friends and the basics of life are all one really needs to be happy 😊
- Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2024This series is a very enjoyable read with great characters and whacky adventures. The author boldly tells the real truths, that the world is indeed run by octopuses.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Enjoyment!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic series!
As a reader of Jasper Fford, Sir Pretty and others i have been delighted with these stories, the world created is both nostalgic and current, there is humour, pathos, love and joy, all expressed with language that draws you in.
I hope there are more to come, but if not, I know I will revisit these.
If you are hesitant to buy, don't be, as Jonathon would say, 'well, ermmmm, guy's
Just buy it, you won't regret it

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Fairfax series
As always, I loved the book, especially since I’ve been waiting for a new Fairfax for quite some time.
What I enjoy most in the book, and this applies to the entire series, are the characters, humour, and the absurdity of all things, especially when things turn out quite right after (and due to) a series of mistakes and/ or awkardness / ineptness. Slapsticks turining into acrobatics.
And this time.. everyone has a share in it.
I also appreciate the hidden pieces of unexpected wisdom and new perspectives on life, the universe, and everything, tucked within the humor

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of modern British farce
If you want to read something light and fun with an excellent, well written plot, then this is a great series of books. This one well and truly lives up to the standard. Good farces are hard to find. This series is one of the best.
