The Summer of Falling in Love: an uplifting feelgood romance to warm your heart Kindle Edition
A heart-warming romance for dog-lovers everywhere.
The thought of having a dog hasn’t crossed Theo Martin’s mind. It’s not that he doesn’t like dogs – he does – but the idea has simply never occurred to him.
It has occurred to his mother, though. When she decides to buy him a puppy because she thinks it will “liven him up a bit”, his life is turned completely upside down, and not for the better as far as he’s concerned. But when he discovers that having a cute dog on the end of a lead attracts a great deal of female attention, he soon changes his mind. All kinds of women stop to pet the pup and while they coo over Poppy, they talk to him. A lot. And for Theo, it looks like his love life is taking a very welcome turn for the better.
But what about Josie Wilde, his dog sitter?
Forced to employ someone to walk his dog when he’s in work, he finds himself increasingly attracted to her, but unfortunately Josie’s interest in him appears to be purely professional. As the summer unfolds and he falls head over heels in love with the sweet and vulnerable pup, he finds himself falling for Josie, too.
For Theo, it’s not so much ‘love me, love my dog’, but more like ‘love my dog, love me, too’.

Liz’s narrative lets you get lost in the story and the characters, of course I especially loved the dogs! The story is the perfect way to curl up and escape for a few hours. Kirsty's Book Buying Addiction
This romcom by Liz Davies was so adorable and I loved every page of it. I was charmed by the honesty of friendship between a man and his best-friend (aka dog) and I appreciated that animals soften people’s characters and personalities. Kraftireader

About the author

Liz Davies writes feel-good, light-hearted stories with a hefty dose of romance, a smattering of humour, and a great deal of love.
She lives on a Welsh mountain with her very patient husband and incredibly sweet dog, where she grows veggies (if the slugs don't get them), bakes (badly) and loves making things out of glitter and glue (a mess, usually). She's been an avid reader ever since she got her hands on a copy of Noddy Goes to Toytown when she was five, and she once tried to read everything in her local library starting with A and working her way through the alphabet. She loves long, hot summer days in the garden, and cold winter ones snuggled in front of the fire, but whatever the weather she's usually writing or thinking about writing, with heartwarming romance and happy-ever-after always on her mind.
She also writes romantic fiction as Lilac Mills

- Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2020Format: KindleIf you love dogs and romantic comedies, this might be the book for you. Basically the mother of a Maths teacher drops off a dog she brought for him to liven up his life. The dog receives the attention of women. Though he didn't want the dog and considers rehoming he falls in love and becomes attached to Poppy. Yes, the dog led him to meeting women, livened things up, and changed his life. It was a cozy, clean romantic comedy that is heartwarming.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is a sweet love story in not only a romantic sense, but in the bond that many people have with their pets and animals. While Theo never imagined he’d end up with a dog, and makes every attempt to find a new home for it, Poppy ends up becoming more to Theo and as he puts it, “worms her way” into his heart. The beautiful detail given for Poppy made me feel like I had an adorable dog sitting right next to me. She becomes a magnet, not only in gaining female attention, but by pulling positivity and enjoyment into Theo’s life.
As mentioned in the synopsis, Josie is a tough cookie to crack. There were plenty of quips and remarks that she makes in what feels like an attempt in protecting herself from letting anyone in, and that includes Theo. It was nice to see a potentially romantic couple who don’t instantly fall for one another, that there is work and effort put into it. Theo has to prove that he is someone to be trusted, and that made me appreciate this couple even more.
I thought it was also a nice change of pace to see what life is really like when adopting a puppy. Theo goes through trying times and has to muster up a lot of patience, which is very real and true of what happens when bringing a puppy home. I could feel the tension and irritation, along with the exuberance when he finally feels he’s having breakthroughs with the new addition to his life. It made me feel closer than ever to my own dog!
There are a few bumpy experiences along the road to petdom, as well as Theo’s attempts at making it known with Josie on how he feels for her, even when he’s not entirely sure on what that is. But Falling in Love was such a nice reprieve from the current real-world situation we find ourselves in right now, a nice break with sweet tender moments that really highlight the love a man has for his dog. The back and forth between Theo and Josie was great to see, but it’s the relationship with Poppy that really did it for me!

The Summer of Falling in Love is a heart-warming romance for romcom fans and dog lovers.
It’s not just about a puppy meet-cute though. Theo, the main character, is not just disillusioned with love; he hates his job and spends the time when he isn’t at work just moping around his flat aimlessly. He is convinced that he is fine and that his life is comfortable and well-ordered.
So when his parent’s dump an unexpected puppy on him and run away (very naughty – don’t do this at home!), Theo is determined that Poppy must be rehomed as quickly as possible, so as not to disrupt his busy schedule of takeaways and action films.
It quickly becomes clear that the main focus of the story is less about Theo falling in love with another person. It is about him falling in love with a puppy, who then reminds him how to love his job again, find joy in his life, and then open himself up to a romantic relationship. Quite a lot for one little fuzzy bundle to manage, but luckily Poppy is a cute and determined little Cockapoo!
I love that this story is told solely from the point of view of the male character – not often the case – and that the plot and character developments all feel completely natural and realistic, instead of a series of unlikely coincidences and manufactured misunderstandings designed to provide conflict. Theo is incredibly relatable and his reactions and feelings are easy to sympathise with.
This book is an ideal sweet summer read, about learning to fall in love with life again. And dogs, of course!
Theo’s mum hurried around to the passenger side and got in.
His dad wound the window down.
‘Er, haven’t you forgotten something?’ Theo asked, holding the puppy up.
‘No, I don’t think so,’ his mum said. ‘Have we forgotten anything, Gerald?’ She slapped a hand to her forehead. ‘Yes, we have – we forgot to tell you that she’s had all her injections, but she can’t go out for a walk for another seven days. Her paperwork is in one of the bags.’
‘Wait, what? I don’t understand. What are you talking about, and can you please take your dog with you? I’ve got a Chinese takeaway coming shortly.’
‘It’s not our dog, son, it’s yours,’ Gerald said.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2020Format: KindleThis book is between 3.5 and 4 stars to me. I have never read anything by this author so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I guess I expected this book to be a little more about the main character and humans than the dog. Poppy is really cute and well behaved for the most part but super unexpected for Theo.
His parents literally just dropped a dog off at his house and left for the week even though he still had another week of school. Thankfully he found Josie who could walk Poppy.
Josie was a good character and likable.
I felt Theo was a little odd and it surprised me how much he didn’t know about dogs and how much he ended up loving Poppy. I was skimming paragraphs eventually because I wanted some dialogue or to read something else besides what was going on with the dog.
I’m glad that Theo was able to find something to liven his life up and be happy with his life and job again.
I would recommend this story if you really love dogs and some romance with a HEA.

5.0 out of 5 stars The summer of falling in love
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA lovely light hearted read about a young man who is given a puppy by his parents. Slowly accepting the puppy and realising that more people wanted to talk to him and more young women were interested in him because of the pup, he met and fell in love with a young dog walker who looked after the puppy when he was at work. Things started to work out for him at last. A good book.
