Fated by Starlight (Supernatural Institute Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 6,600 ratings

Avery
You'd think a half-witch, quarter-werewolf would be a magical powerhouse, right? Wrong. I'm so nothing special. I'm on the express track to a low-magic ambassador job, right after I complete three months of mandatory Supernatural Forces training.

I never expected my biggest stumbling block to be my new squad commander, Wyatt Jamison. He's everything I'm not—a pure blooded werewolf who oozes magic.

Did I mention he's also my former teenage crush who still makes my mouth water?

Wyatt
Three months. I just have to get through three months of resisting Avery's enticing lilac-and-rainwater scent. Then she'll be shipped off to Geneva and I can get to work forgetting her inquisitive eyes, infectious laugh, and tantalizing curves. It almost kills me to keep her at arm's length, but duty demands it.

All of that changes, though, when a rare celestial event erupts strange, new power from Avery—a power that's determined to destroy her. Tasked with unlocking its secrets, I have no choice but to keep her close as I struggle to find her new magic's origins.

Because if I don't? Avery's dreams and future will be lost before they've begun.

Review

"The mix of Supernatural creatures from fairies to werewolves to vamps and everything in between with a military setting was done perfectly. I tend to be really picky when it comes to the fated mates trope. I feel it has to be done well for me to FEEL it and this story definitely did it ~right~!" ★★★★★ -IG book blogger, @mother.of.all.books

Don't miss out on this one!!
The moment I picked up this book I could not put it down! Faded by Starlight reminded me why I love the fated mates trope SO dang much. The mix of Supernatural creatures from fairies to werewolves to vamps and everything in between with a military setting touch was done perfectly. I tend to be really picky when it comes to the fated mates trope. I feel it has to be done well for me to FEEL it and this story definitely did it ~right~! . And Wyatt.....*starts panting* Can we just say book boyfriend material right here?! He was such a perfect alpha! He denies himself and his wolf the one thing they both DESPERATELY want, all to make sure Avery doesn't give up her dream career! . The cliffhanger ending wanted me to pick up book 2 immediately (and at this point in time I already have!😉) ! All of my PNR friends, put this one on your radar immediately! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Krista Street's Fated By Starlight is an excellent book to start on if you've never read PNR, and you want a glimpse of Fae, Werewolves, Sorcerer's, Witches, and Vampires. It has some different explanations to Werewolves than I've ever read before - the differences before female and male werewolves and their abilities, etc. I would consider it a NA with light spice, these are for the most part college age wolves, Vampires, Witches, and Fae, except for those in charge of them.

Wyatt is in charge of the new recruits in the Supernatural Forces program, and he takes his job very seriously. He's never really lived anywhere else, except when he was training, and with his pack. His father is the Head Alpha in charge of the pack at home. He's very much a green flag all the way through, he wants to do what's best for everyone around him, and he's made promises to a friend (that is not explained in this book) to stay with the SF program for at least two more years. He's definitely a cinnamon roll, kind of crusty on the outside, doesn't warm up to others easily, but is very sweet to the one he considers his.

Avery Myers is considered the weakest of the new recruits, she could be mistaken for a human, has almost no magical abilities, and no superhuman strength. But Avery is a bada$$! When one of her friends gets sick and falls in a river during a training run, Avery jumps in to save her no matter that it very well could cost her her life. She knows Wyatt, her new Commander, from high school, before she started moving with her parents when they became Ambassadors, and she still has a HUGE crush on him.

Avery is more of a homebody, she likes to bake, she likes to spend time around her barracks, and the one time she goes out with the girls for a night she gets a little tipsy and Wyatt uses his OTT Alpha Werewolf nature to rescue her unnecessarily.

In an effort not to spoil things I will not tell you what's coming around the bend, but there are SO many times that Wyatt almost throws away his whole career to claim Avery as his mate before remembering his duty and his promises. When something HUGE happens and Wyatt attempts to help Avery again, all Avery can remember is the multitude of times he's rejected her, and her self esteem won't allow her to be rejected again.

I enjoyed this book, but found myself frustrated by the constant rejection and the occasional immaturity of the characters. I'm very glad this is a completed series so I can find out what happens next!!

This was so average to me. When cross breeding and having two types of species in your system and your weak….that sucks and makes it boring. I found I didn’t care for the type of set up for this world.

Cannot get over how great this book is. Was hesitant to start because some comments weren’t promising, but once you start, you cannot put the book down. Finished within 12 hours, highly recommend if you’re looking for a great romance werewolf book!

This is so good. I have TONS of questions, there’s a lot of mystery that needs to be uncovered. But not in a way that takes away from the story. Makes it more intriguing.
I love that Avery knows she’s limited but works that much harder.
Wyatt is kinda a dummy. He needs to fix that. Stat.
Other than oooh scary demons and sexy fiend vamps, there doesn’t seem to be the usually animosity against other races. Or even looking down on the mixed races. It’s a nice change.

And of course. Cliff hanger of all cliff hangers.
I’d write a better review but my download is now complete and I NEED to read book two.

I was so entranced with this book. I am an older woman but still love to read the fantasies of youth and even though it says these books are recommended for younger ones I will say all her books are captivating. I have read all her series of books and will be sad that she hasn't got more.

The story is a bit construed, but still good. I just think the MMc could have just told her, what was going on and save them all the drama. But I really loved the FMC and the world building, I will definitely read the next book!

What happens when your magical heritage is a mixed bag? In Avery’s case, she’s not much stronger than a human. And when she likes her strong werewolf commander who she knew as a teenager. Awkward.
