Feels Like Love: A brother's best friend small town romance (Alondra Valley Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 1,113 ratings

I'm secretly in love with my best friend's little sister.

So, I do what any good friend would—avoid her.
At least, until my house floods, and my best friend suggests I move in with Wren.

Resisting her has never been easy.
But when Wren convinces me to be her dating coach, it’s impossible.

The more we "practice," the harder I fall for her and her amazing son.
The more I start to believe what we have is real.

It feels like love, but is it worth risking my friendship with Wren and her brother to know if she feels the same?

“I love you, Wren. I’m in love with you. I have been for years.”

My jaw dropped. “You…what?” It came out as more of a shriek. Years? He’d loved me for years? No freaking way.

He chuckled, smoothing his thumb along my cheekbone. His expression was so sincere and loving it stole my breath. “Yes freaking way."

“Why didn’t you say anything?” I finally asked. “All this time…” I stared at him in wonder.

“Why do you think?”

I swallowed hard. “My brother.”

About the Author

Jenna Hartley is a USA Today bestselling author who writes feel-good forbidden romance, much like her own real-life love story. She's known for writing strong women and swoon-worthy men, as well as blending panty-melting and heart-warming moments. When she's not reading or writing romance, Jenna can be found tending to her growing indoor plant collection (pun intended), organizing, and hiking. She lives in Texas with her family and loves nothing more than a good book and good chocolate, except a dance party with her daughter.

Born and raised on a ranch in Big Sky country, Wyeth Watt has always had a fondness for the outdoors and animal husbandry. The calm and isolation of the Rockies led to his love of books and storytelling. He, his wife, and four children still live on the family ranch and have developed a new breed of rabbit, a cross between Angora and Flemish Rabbit . . . for maximum fluffiness. His kids call them "Anglish." Wyeth loves The Great British Bake Off (especially the seasons with Mary Berry), cooking, and baseball.

Kelli Tager is a classically trained actor with a master's degree in Shakespeare studies from the Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-Upon-Avon, UK. She worked in film/theater and taught children's acting for many years. Now, she only acts behind the mic in commercials, animation, and, of course, audiobooks. ("Kelli Garland" narrates anything for the young listener.) Audiobook narration is the perfect marriage between her love of literature and her love of acting.

Booksta-bestie made me read it and it didn’t disappoint!
Best friend’s little sister+Single parent! Two of my favorite tropes bundled in this beautiful package of simple perfection! First, let’s talk about how awesome Wren was! A badass photographer, the most loving, accepting and sacrificial mom ever and so resilient that my heart was bursting with so much love and admiration. She deserved all her dreams, she deserved a love she was looking for and the happy ending she got. Bennet was GOALS! Book boyfriend perfection! I was melting with his love for Wren! He just wanted to make her happy, to see her laughing and having the life he knew she deserved. I adored his relationship with River, they were so adorable together and the bond they formed was like a warm hug in a cold day. I loved the entire “dating coach” storyline. It was fun to see them secretly pining for each other and inevitably bluring line after line. The connection was always there and the chemistry in and out of bed was more than explosive. Even with all the hard times Liam gave them, I loved the friendship between him and Bennet and how they were able to find common ground and form the family they were always meant to be. That happy ending brought to my heart (as Wren would say) all the feels… all the freaking feels because it was exactly the type of ending I was expecting for them! Aaaaaahhhh it’s books like this that remind me why I love this genre so much! Jenna went above and beyond with this book! Thanks for the rec, boo! If you haven’t read this beautiful story I recommend you do.

FEELS LIKE LOVE is a standalone read with a happy ending. There are sexy scenes and colorful language if that is an issue for you. I loved this story. The star is Bennett, 32, a vet at the local clinic. The story is set in the small town in Alondra Valley. It is a story of a man that has a love for his best friend's sister and he is under the illusion that he is not allowed to love her for that very reason. I will be the first to say that I believe this code is one of the stupidest on the market. A man has a best friend, like his brother, would give his life for him yet he is not good enough for his sister. Don't get that. But that isn't the issue.

Bennett has been in love with Wren since he moved back to town two years ago. He has never professed his love or made a move on her because she is his best friend's sister.

Wren has a bad experience in past. She is the single mother to a 5 year old. He is obviously gay and his mother loves him unconditionally. The father was a rat that took off at the first sign of pregnancy. After the birth she almost died from other complications. So her brother is especially protective of her. He is a big guy that doesn't have much respect for the women he dates, etc. but yet he wants more for his sister. He makes sure to mess with the guys that have called her for a date and then they call to cancel. She feels rejected. So there are a lot of issues all around. But then Ben has a hot water heater that explodes and floods his house. Wren is the only one with a spare bedroom. And so the story heats up.

This is a great read. First let me say this just so the author knows!! I LOVED THE COVER. That guy is the reason I downloaded the book. He just screamed FUN. He is all that and more!! I really enjoyed this book, I found it to be entertaining as well as enlightening. I definitely recommend it. Great story.

I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 1/17/2022.

I absolutely love the single mom trope, and Bennett was so sensitive and loving, especially with River. And watching River who was not only comfortable expressing who he was, but having a mom who supported him 100% in it, be loved and accepted without condition by Bennett? As Wren would say, I was all in my feels over him. Bennett has moved himself up on my list of aspirational book boyfriends. 😍

Only issues I had were the 3rd act breakup, and the OTT overprotective big brother who also happened to be the MMC's best friend. I love a good best friend's sister trope, but Liam was too much and so immature about it.

Also, this may just be me and very minor spoiler ahead, but a veterinarian talking about how he'd been going over all the best dogs to own with River when they were discussing adopting one, and then he gets him a Frenchie????? As a vet tech, I'm not buying that. No way that's happening. That was probably the least believable part of the whole story. 🤣

I wish the steam had been a little steamier, but it was sufficient. I'd give it 2🌶️, but just barely. So if you're looking for smuttier, look elsewhere. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series, though, and the reviews make it seem like those get steamier so even more to look forward to. 😉
I loved the banter and interactions between characters, and the side characters are all great. I know Liam and Tristan already have their own books, but I hope Asher's getting one, too. If he actually already has one and I just don't know where to look for it, let me know please! 😬

Wren is happy with her career, is close to her family and her son River is her everything however the one thing she would like is a man to share it with. She has had feelings for her brother’s best friend Bennett for as long as she can remember but doesn’t believe they are destined to be more than friends so who better to give her the dating advise she believes she needs.

The feelings that Bennett has for Wren go far deeper than friends, but he knows that her brother would never approve. When he finds himself needing a short-term place to stay, he knows that living with Wren and denying his feelings is going to test his will power to the extreme especially when she wants him to help her attract other men. Let the complications begin!

There interactions are humorous and hot and not only are Bennett, Wren and River captivating characters but there is a great cast of secondary characters that make this wonderful story even better.

I normally enjoy Jenna Hartley books and wanted to love this one. I did like the characters. If Bennett had been 16 or even 20ish, I could give hm a pass for his behavior, but he was a 32-year-old adult with a doctorate and behaved like a kid. He was so in love with Wren that he didn’t date but couldn’t tell his best friend that he was in love with his friend’s sister? Good grief! Then, the boys had a fight in a public venue during a tragedy when people were grieving. The immaturity was unbelievable.

This was my first book by this author, it was everything I hoped for. Great characters, loved the stories behind Bennett and Wren, great storyline, great lead up into getting to know the characters, especially Wren’s son River. And for me despite the inevitable heartbreak there was the sweetest HEA. Looking forward to the next book.

Wren and Bennet friends to lovers was well written and really good to read, I can’t say to much without giving stuff away and I don’t want to do that so you’ll just have to read it for yourself.

Bennett and Wren have known each other forever, he is her brother Liams best friend. Liam is the protector of his sister to the extent that he blocks anyone who wants to date her after her ex messed up her life leaving her with their baby. Bennett is very aware he is to stay away from her but when his house needs work Liam tells him he should stay with his sister. Seeing her and being close is too much temptation for both of them and Bennett cant keep away from her. Its a gentle build up with the big hiccup being Liam finding out. Bennett does look after her though and his character is lovely.
