Finlay's Duty: A Scottish Victorian Romance (The Victorian Highlanders Book 2) Kindle Edition
Kyla MacTavish would do anything for her family – even sacrificing her heart for an arranged marriage.
She just always thought it would be to Callum McDougall – and not to his brother Finlay. How is she possibly supposed to spend her life with a man so stubborn, stoic, and stormy?
Finlay McDougall has loved one woman his entire life. She, however, has always been promised to another. When she becomes his reality, he resolves to win her over and make her his wife in mind, body, and soul. But can he overcome his biggest obstacle — himself?
As Kyla and Finlay struggle to maintain peace between their clans, will they find a way forward together, or let their misconceptions keep them apart?
This Victorian Highlander Romance contains some steamy content.
Note: Finlay's Duty was previously published as Promises of Sunlight and The Chieftain's Duty by Audrey Adair.

About the author

Ellie has always loved reading, writing, and history. For many years she has written short stories, non-fiction, and can hardly believe that she is now living out her dream writing historical romance.
In every era there is the chance for romance, and Ellie enjoys exploring many different time periods, cultures, and geographic locations. No matter when or where, love can always prevail. She has a particular soft spot for the bad boys of history, and can't help but write of strong, feisty heroines.
Ellie and her husband love nothing more than spending time at home with their two sons and Husky cross. Ellie can typically be found at the lake in the summer, pushing the stroller all year round, and, of course, with her computer in her lap or a book in hand.
Hearing from readers always makes her day!

- Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2020"Finlay had loved Kyla since, he supposed, the day he had met her, though it took him a few years before he realized it. She was sweetness and light and goodness...everything he was not... and to him perfection. And had always been promised to marry his brother Callum. And yet he loved her anyway."
Kyla MacTavish is with a neighboring Clan of the McDougalls. She had grown up with Callum and Finlay McDougall and there was an understanding she would marry Callum who would be Laird. But Callum ended up marry another as he traveled and that meant Finlay would not step into his brother's place and her as bride to join their clans together. What? Not that irritating man who seems to bring out the worst in her!
Fin has loved her all his life but he cannot seem to curb his mouth and what he says that seems to irritate her. But he is determined to win her.
What a fun journey to see the these two together. So many arguments but at time humorous, and a lot of crossed misunderstandings! But I truly loved these two and could not wait to see what would happen!! I highly recommend (the over won me over first!)
- Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2020This was a wonderful read & I really enjoyed learning more about crofters & how the lairds set up the use of their land.
Finlay McDougall will be the next laird of their clan when his father steps down. His older brother Callum was supposed to fill that position but he went to America, found a wife and stayed. Callum was also betrothed to the eldest daughter of the clan leader next to McDougall land but now the fathers have come together and agreed that Finlay & Kyla should marry to bring the two clans together. Finlay had been in love with Kyla for years & he would not force a marriage on her as he knew she did not want to marry & was happy Callum did not return.
Kyla MacTavish loves her clan and knows her father & brother have not treated the crofters kindly and she only wants peace for the clan - she has tried to convince her father of ideas she has to make the crofters happy & in turn would increase profits for her father but he won't listen. Now, she must marry the crabby, serious brooding Finlay McDougall but she will agree on certain conditions.
The coming together of these two was full of humor, banter, arguing, misunderstandings, romance & eventually a HEA. I highly recommend this book & the first one in this series for a entertaining reads.
I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2023I have enjoyed this book. I realized I hadn’t read Callums story so I will have to find it. Marriage is a lot of give and take and it can be difficult at times.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2022The Story & Characters were Absolutely Wonderful.
I only had just a little issue with Finlay. His Character was a tad confusing with his emotions. Yet, I loved his emotions during a certain point in the Story.
I am looking forward to reading Adam's Story next in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2020Historical romance set in the Scottish highlands. Book 2 of the McDougall siblings, but this is a stand alone story.
After eldest son, Callum, decides to stay in the Northwest Territories with his new bride, next eldest, Finlay, is selected to fulfill the spot of clan chieftain vacated by Callum. Finlay has always taken seriously the duties of clan leadership, to the extent that it has been the focus of his life since he was a child. The current clan chieftains decide that the marriage to unite the two clans, McDougalls and McTavishes is to proceed, just with a different groom. Finlay has always loved Kyla McTavish, the intended bride, but since she was to be Callum's bride he held his feelings in from her. Now when he is to be the groom, he frets that she doesn't want him. Kyla thinks that Finlay doesn't like her because he never talks to her or even smiles. After initially rejecting the idea, she and Finlay agree to several conditions and the marriage takes place. Will their marriage become more than an arrangement? What do Kyla and Finlay learn about each other? What event potentially causes them a problem? Will they be able to finally be able to declare their love to each other?
I received an ARC of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finlay’s Duty
Loved this book. Kyla and Finlay had been friends since childhood and she assumed that she would marry Finlay’s brother. The brother decided to marry someone else, which meant that Kyla could marry Finlay. Finlay loved his Dad and having heard his Dad
Talking to Finlay’s Mother saying that there was so much to do and he didn’t have enough hours in the day, decided as a young child that he would help all he could to make his Dad’s life easier. So he married Kyla, but they did not consummate the marriage for many weeks. Eventually they shared a bed and he did his duty. Things still were not right as he put his work on his Fathers estate before Kyla and his marriage. She had told him at the beginning that they would have a three month trial. So when the three months were up, she decided to go home to her Father and brother. After a while she decided to contact Finlay to discuss business with him and they decided that they loved each other and they would make their marriage work. This book was so enjoyable as it had a lovely story and romance, and things worked out at the end. I was fortunate to read this book as an ARC from the author, but I give my view freely and I have purchased the book which I will enjoy reading again.
