    This was a book that kept me reading late into the night. It was fast paced, exciting, and steamy. It was romantic and funny while still keeping me on the edge of my seat. There were definitely some huge twists and they were revealed perfectly.

    Nash and Madison’s chemistry was off the charts. They’d met four years ago at the academy, but their careers had taken them on different paths until Madison decided to try out for SWAT and Nash was her training officer. They share a forbidden kiss during a night out and the aftermath of Nash pushing her away takes an unexpected turn.

    After getting injured trying to stop a home invasion, Madison moves in with Nash and his daughter Emma under the guise of taking care of each other. They’re still fighting their attraction, and decide to take up the investigation into the infamous Midnight Slasher when closing the case doesn’t feel right to them.

    Nash and Madison’s investigation takes them on a twisty path to discovering the real Midnight Slasher. It’s in the middle of their second shooting that they both realize they can’t fight their feelings any longer. I love how their relationship blooms so easily and once they commit, Nash does everything to show Madison that he is all in. I love that Nash takes his daughter into consideration when starting his relationship with Madison, and I love that he quickly realizes he’s been wrong about keeping things from Emma. I loved both his and Madison’s relationship with Emma and they ended up making a perfect family.

    This was a great read and I can’t wait to get more from this series. I loved the little Easter Egg thrown in about Jake and am looking forward to reading his book next!

    Oh. My. Word. Only the second Hannah Shield book that I’ve read and now I’m hooked! This book started strong and it never let up. Spine tingling, scary, page turner. Loved it. I was so into my book that I literally jumped when my phone rang! Yeah…that good.
    As the SWAT team instructor Sgt Nash Jennings has a reputation. He’s grumpy and scary. Having been a Navy SEAL he’s all buff and smooth in operation but not comfortable as an instructor. He’s a man of a few words; just ask his ex-wife and 15yo daughter. Ever since the police academy Nash has noticed Madison Shelborne who was in his same cadet class. Madison is much younger than his 37 years but she was the only person who approached him hoping to make nice during their training. Now they meet again as she trains to make it to the SWAT team under his instruction. He asks for advice from her which leads to a quick kiss. A kiss that changes everything for these two. Love Emma his teenage daughter. Her character is written so well.
    If you like mysteries with thrilling events, lots of scary and steamy moments, you will want to read this book. I could not put it down. There is quite a bit of “tension” between Madison and Nash before they get down to business. There is so much more about this plot that I would like to share but you need to read it for yourself. So good! I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through BookSirens. Super cover too.

The second book in the West Oaks series, The Five Minute Mistake grabs you from the beginning with sensual tension between Madison ‘Shelby’ Shelbourne and her SWAT instructor former navy SEAL Sargent Nash Jennings. That tension becomes more intense as the book goes on when they try and ‘do the right thing’. The entire West Oak Police force is looking for the “Midnight Slasher” and when Madison sees a home invasion taking place, she and Nash immediately act and save the day. They become injured during the rescue and end up convalescing together with Nash’s teenage daughter, Emma.

    I love the intensity of the action, suspense, and pace of this story. The growing relationship between Nash and Madison is passionate and sweet at the same time. He’s my perfect type of hero, grumpy, protective, and soft when it comes to those he loves. Nash’s daughter Emma is smart, snarky, and caring, and I enjoyed their relationship so much. I found myself laughing out loud at several of their exchanges. Mostly, Nash needs to protect those he loves. He’s always done it by following the rules and not acting on gut instinct. Madison is quite the opposite. She a cop and has always used her gut to give her insight on what to do. Initially, they seem so different, but as they got to know each other, I could see they were more alike. They learned from each other and became a great couple. I loved the scenes with them and Emma together, it was so natural. I received an arc of this book from Booksprout, and this is my honest review.
