From the Author
Sadly, they were onto me. The crows flew away before I got the picture, saving my friends from my horrible pun.
But the idea stuck with me, and Flipping the Bird was born!

- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis wad a fun paranormal to!ance, told in dual POV with no cheating and has an HEA.
I actually laughed out loud a couple times and smiled a lot of this book. I really enjoyed it. Possibly first book I read from this author, so will need to find another that interests me.
Alice is a crow shifter and lives in Shift Creek. The creek is named shift creek as it back flows at The full moon and rejuvenates it's healing properties. Or at least it used to. Alice is a collector of junk that she and her best friend use to make salvage art.
Donovan is the black sheep of his family. He is from a powerful war lock family that are kinda evil. His magic is locked so is unable to use it. He came to Shift Creek to try to harness the magic in the creek to unlock his magic. His familiar, a mongoose named Martin, causes all kinds of chaos.
Once Alice and Donovan meet, there's no going back. They just clicked and their do!ance is sweet and sexy. This is a fun read. Definitely recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book....is so good!
Let me add though that there should have been a language warning on it. The gratuitous use of the word d**k was annoying. The author peppered it into every situation that she could shoehorn it into. It was like a toddler learning a dirty word and wanting to shock the adults with using it all the time.
Otherwise, I loved the book and the rating reflects that.
The MC, Alice, is everything a solid leading female character should be. She's quirky, funny, loyal, and highly likeable. Donovan is everything you'd want in a love interest. He's strong and loyal, he also has a tortured past that makes you want to root for him to succeed.
The world that the author created is well-thought out and I can't wait to read more about Shift Creek (I'm hoping there is more because I want to learn about Megan, Griffin, and the others).
I liked the story. The ending was everything my little ol' romantic heart could want. I also liked how it circled around back to how the town started.
Job well done!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseSeriously though, Marty the gassy mongoose is my favorite character in this book. No matter the situation you can count on him to do the right thing. Alice and Donovan are pretty nice too. Shift Creek is a town with some problems that only someone from Donovan’s family can fix. Will it be fixed in time?? Let’s just see about that.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseNot only was this my first Carrie Pulkinen book, but it was my first ever shifter book. Not knowing what to expect I went into it with an open mind and I absolutely loved it! Alice and Maggie are two light hearted fun loving girls that made it feel like the friendship I have with my best friend. They made me smile and laugh out loud several times. Enter Donovan and his mongoose and it was so "stinking" fun to read. I felt engrossed in the story, the characters were extremely well developed and everything flowed smoothly. This is one of the best books I have read over the past 6 months and I can't wait for more. The story has a happy ending, but leaves a wonderful opening for book 2 and for the characters to grow even more. If you have never read a shifter book, this could not be a better choice to start with, it's fun, not too serious, romantic, and overall a kick b*tt way to spend a couple of hours.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is a fun paranormal story! It really took me on an adventure and I couldn’t be happier. I really couldn’t figure out an answer to their problem until near the end. I loved that little mystery aspect. The characters are wonderful. Watching Alice and Megan goof around it’s easy to see why they are besties. Then there is Donovan Drake...that name alone just inspires me. He is an interesting character and I loved his story. His little sidekick is annoying, helpful and a perfect fit for the story.
For a good time while reading enjoy this little beauty! I look forward to more!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI enjoyed most of this story. I liked the outcome and the storyline. The story and the writing drew me in. I rated it 3 stars because I dislike lies, especially when the story would've flowed without them.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseFlipping the Bird (book one in the Shift Creek series) by Carrie Pulkinen was a great read! I was absolutely riveted with this novel. This is the first book I've read from Pulkinen before and it makes me wonder why I haven't picked up any of her books before. The characters were great and full of personality. The book was full of comedy and sarcasm and just awesomeness. I fell in love with the small town setting. This is a shifter novel unlike any I've read before and I really enjoyed it. I can't wait to read more in the future!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI loved this amazing read! The author kept the humor going throughout the book and the intrigue and mystery kept me glued to my ereader until the very end. I loved this couple; they were adorable together and the smelly sidekick brings his own laughs to the story. This was a fantastic beginning to the series, and I can’t wait to read the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this start to a New Series
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAlice a crow shifter and her best friend Megan a raccoon shifter are besties and work together in their reclaimed art shop. The town they live in has a mixture of shifters and mundies (humans). They have a magical river that keeps the town shifters healthy and was a tourist attraction. The Rainecourt Warlocks were responsible for maintaining the river by living in the town but when Marcus Rainecourt left with his two sons after his wife's death the magic started failing. It was now reaching a critical point. They needed a Rainecourt Warlock to return to the town to restore the magic. When Rainecourt Manor becomes occupied again with a very handsome Warlock and his familiar, Marty a mongoose with terrible smelly wind problems, there is hope that things will change. But he's not a Rainecourt, he's Donovan Drake. What Alice and Megan don't know is that Donovan is the illegitimate son of Marcus Rainecourt and he is not a powerful warlock, he was born with his magic is locked. He has returned to Shift Creek to take the magic from the river to release his own power. But this is not how the story develops. Alice and Donovan are attracted to each other. Marty tries to sabotage this. The story is full of passion, misleading truths, fibs, fun and laughter. Some surprises and twists to the story. With an HEA for Alice and Donovan. As with all Carrie's books this is a well written entertaining book. Looking forward to the next one where his brother is coming to Shift Creek and Megan is looking forward to his visit......
I received an ARC from the author to read and I voluntarily leave this honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic new series
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseFirst book in a new series .
Shift Creek is a town where all types of shifters have settled.
The magic that's keeping the town busy with tourists and the shifters regenerating their health is failing and only a Raincourt Warlock can solve the problem.
Alice, a Crow Shifter is an artist and owns a small shop, depending on tourism.
Donovan Drake is a Warlock with no powers. He's come to Shift Creek to use the magic to restore his own magic. This sidekick is a familiar, a mongoose, Marty, with serious farting issues .
Together, Alice & Donovan are trying together to help restore the magic of the creek, whilst developing feelings for each other & discovering important information about the history of the town & how the magical creek came to being.
Another great book by Carrie Pulkinen, immediately you get drawn into the story.
The chemistry between Alice & Drake is very palpable.
Relatable and likeable characters, funny and witty and one really smelly mongoose...
Cannot wait for the next book in the series.
