Forbidden Blood (Ironwrought Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 261 ratings

Since he killed a vampire eight months ago, Oriel has been on the run. The coven wants him dead, and the feds want his blood to eradicate the vampires. Exhausted, he sneaks into an obscure mansion, rummaging for food. What he doesn't know: a vampire lives there.

Three centuries ago, a human lover betrayed Seb, selling him to the hunters for some quick gold. When his chef quits, Seb is left hanging... until he finds the thief in his garage. He captures Oriel, only to discover that Oriel needs protection. And the one thing Seb wants? A purpose to his life again.

Oriel sets one condition when Seb hires him: Seb cannot drink his blood. Except Oriel's blood tempts him from a distance, tempts him in bed. If he tastes it, he'll be addicted, completely dependent on Oriel. And the hotter Oriel kindles his desire, the harder it is for Seb to stay away.

Forbidden Blood is a 33,000-word standalone erotic gay romance novella. No cliffhangers, no cheating. But there definitely is a Happily Ever After.

Hello! Thank you for wondering about me. I’m a funny, dick-loving goofball with a surprisingly tolerant husband, and an ever-growing menagerie of stuffed animals and edible balls (in the garden). When I’m not busy writing (which is very rare), I can be found wrangling pests in the garden, or drawing copious amounts of peens!

I’ve been scribbling since I was fourteen, and I believe that everyone needs a safe place. My dorky guys fall in love, make mistakes, and sometimes they fumble a little before finding their way back into each other’s arms. :D

I loved and enjoyed this wonderful book. I loved the relationship between Oriel and Seb. I loved the romance, the comedy, the action, and the twists and turns in this book. I loved that they got their happy ending. I would recommend this book to people who love paranormal, vampires, comedy, romance, and action with a lot of twists and turns too. 👏💖💞📖📕

This book was interesting, and I'm full of questions after having finished it. Did the Hunters infiltrate the government and that's why they want to exterminate vampires? Does everyone know about vampires? Why didn't Oriel's blood trigger any cravings in Seb with the bonding? Wouldn't some of Oriel's blood have entered Seb's system in the bonding, and might that have given him some kind of immunity to its addictive properties?

I can't wait to read more in this world and find out what's in store.

This read like a first draft to me. There were some good ideas or possibilities, but the writing was weak and too repetitive. I liked the idea of man with addictive blood, but it didn't really go anywhere. Oriel was exhausted and just wanted a safe harbor. Seb, the vampire, was huge and reclusive and kind and wonderful etc... but he didn't come to life for me. It started to feel silly by the end. I won't read more of this series.

New to me author. This is a mm paranormal contemporary story. Main characters are are Oriel the human with tempting blood on the run and Seb a 300 year old recluse Vampire. Great start to this series. I’ll read more from this author and series.

A nice story that could’ve been a full-fledge novel. All the ingredients are there, the MCs are described, but the story is short, leaving interesting points unattended. Ms Wineheart’s talent is there, so the book #1 in the ironwrought series is enjoyable. Up to book #2. ❤️

I like the book but it could have been longer. It had a HEA ending which I love. But I just wanted more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoyable read.

I really enjoyed this book and loved the characters and the simple storyline. Basically Oriel is human and running for his life because his blood is different, it's addictive and makes vampires lose their minds. The Fed's want him so they can eliminate the vampire race so Oriel ran.

Cold tired and at the end of his role Oriel finds himself hold up in an old mansion garage. What he doesn't know is that Sebastian a vampire lives there. When Seb finds Oriel camping out in his garage his first instinct is to kill the human, that is until he smells his blood and realised who Oriel is. Seb needs a reason to continue living and the fugitive Oriel needs someone to protect him. What both men didn't expect was the attraction to each other.

Recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too short and too rushed
Reviewed in Australia on November 2, 2020
This was a short book, and while I've read many novella length books that hold their own, I really felt this one needed to be longer. The dual POV did help with the development, and without that it would have been a lot worse. The storyline was rushed, so while we get some minor backstory details, we really don't get a good grasp on either of the characters. This is also an insta-love novel, with love declared within days of meeting each other. Further, the very first meeting between Seb and Oriel turns almost instantly into a sexual encounter. Oriel has been on the run, hiding out from both vampires and the federal agents, yet his first instinct when Seb (who Oriel knows is a vampire) catches him is sexual? This really started to border on erotica for the lack of storyline, but then there isn't enough sex or sexual detail for it to fit that category either.

I did like the concept of Oriel's blood being addictive and affecting a vampire to them point where they lost all touch with reality. I'm curious to find out why that is, and it's hinted that this is linked to book 2. My concern is that book 2 is reported to be able to be a stand-alone read despite a brief crossover of characters, so I'm worried that book won't have enough depth to really answer the questions regarding Oriel's blood.

Uncertain as to whether I would recommend this one - especially when I've enjoyed other works from this author better and found them more well rounded with regards to character development and storyline.
