- Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2020One of the best thrillers I've read. I have never put down a book and started reading another one, until I picked up this book. The atmosphere and chilling, descriptive writing had me glued to the pages. I actually felt like I was with these characters. The chilling feeling just keeps escalating! It was so well-written, that I couldn't put it down. This was a very frightening book and the author is brilliant, in the way he grabs you and doesn't let go! I just wanted this book to be so much longer so it wouldn't end. Highly recommend! 5 Stars!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2020A young couple's car breaks down in the Irish countryside and they spend the night with a family hiding a sinister secret in this intense page-turner. The characters were engaging and there were some unexpected twists. Having said that, I struggled to suspend disbelief at times in the narrative. Too much plot armor was used to force characters into making unrealistic decisions and engaging in unrealistic behavior in order to advance the plot. It was average overall.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2021This was an incredibly quick read, but it was so good. It was interesting trying to figure out what was in the forbidden room and what the mystery in the house was. Gorevan never fails to produce thrillers that keep you on edge.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2020It's interesting, a short read (which I like), and there is an element of eerie suspense as promised by the cover and description.
I had a difficult time building a relationship with the characters, there was a lack of sincerity, I wasn't emotionally drawn into the story. But if you are looking for an interesting quick read, this is a good one.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2020A very good story, although I found some of the character's responses un-believable. Regardless, it was a page-turner and I definitely wanted to finish the story. It is in need of some editing.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 4, 2020Wow! This is a creepy story that will keep you up and unable to sleep. I loved it!
It's a short, well-paced read that had me turning the pages. I would recommend reading this when you're home alone in the middle of the night for maximum fun.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2020This was a perfect read for me on the go! Short but sweet. The characters were very well written. I loved it!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2020I was entertained by the suspense and the fast pace of this thriller. I did noticed some plot points needed a bit more thought and seemed to disconnect a bit. Overall good quick read to spend on a gloomy night.

5.0 out of 5 stars A compulsive pageturner
Wow! Alan Gorevan does it again! This was a fast-paced thriller that didn't even allow me to draw breath. Events kept unfolding that kept me glued to my seat. Thanks to Gorevan's brilliant writing, I've been up all night reading this book. I can assure you that once you start reading it, you will finish it in a single sitting. Gorevan is definitely a writer to watch out for and I wouldn't at all be surprised if he turns out to be the next Lee Child. Highly recommend this compulsive thriller that will take you to the the Irish coast and won't let you rest until you've devoured every single page. Go for it. You can thank me later!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent novella
I needed this little pocket sized read in my life - it had everything I needed to get out of a book slump.
For such a short read, the author managed to elicit strong feelings in me regarding all of the characters, which is something I find incredibly important when enjoying a book. For some reason, I hate the rubbish boyfriend more than the more nefarious characters.
A couple break down on a deserted country road and are forced to walk to the nearest house for assistance, but it becomes clear that their car difficulties were part of a plan to reveal the unsavoury truth about the house and the family that live there.
It was atmospheric, suspenseful and the ending didn't disappoint.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short and oh so bitter
Happy Valentine's Day. Another short, tense, action packed novella from the masterful Alan Gorevan. In a fast paced story, Alan Gorevan manages to create a palpable feeling of tension, dread, atmosphere and vivid imagery and excellent character. But without the need for overlong description. The characters and scene play easily in your head.
The plot advances quickly and by the end you are swept along like a wild west Cork Atlantic storm.
