Forensics of a Fable: A Goldilocks Murder Mystery Romantic Suspense (Autopsy of a Fairytale Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 1,188 ratings

Beauty cannot love a beast and emerge unscathed.

Still reeling from her last case, Detective Isobel ‘Bel’ Emerson finds comfort in both her dog and her newfound friendships, but when she and her new partner, Detective Gold, are called to the site of a bear attack, they discover something far more horrifying: the body of a young woman posed inside a cabin where the furniture is all too big. And to make matters worse, the cabin is located on Eamon Stone’s property.

As the detectives race against the clock to find the killer before he murders another girl, Bel struggles with her growing attraction to Eamon. He’s once again a person of interest in her investigation, and while she knows she should stay away from him, she can’t fight the thread of fate knitting them together. She also needs Eamon’s beast to help with her case because as more evidence is revealed, the more Bel fears a new predator has come to Bajka. The question is: is this hunter man or monster?

Loosely inspired by Goldilocks & the Three Bears, Forensics of a Fable is book 2 in the Autopsy of a Fairytale series, a crime procedural romantic suspense perfect for those who like dark fairytales, murder mystery/crime procedurals (like AMC's The Killing, Netflix’s Lucifer, or NBC's Hannibal), romance, found family, and a hint of fantasy. Each book will be based on a different fairytale, but Bel (and her Beast) will connect them all, her story ending on small cliffhangers in each book.

This is the second book in the Autopsy of a Fairytale series!! These suspenseful mysteries are BRILLIANT!! A Murder Mystery Romantic Suspense that keeps you flipping the pages to see what happens with these FANTASTIC characters!!

The idea of using a fairytale twist with these murder mysteries is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT and unlike anything I’ve ever read!!

Scarano writes characters that you become completely immersed in and a small town where there is unknown magic, along with twisted murder scenes. I’d love to mention all my favorite characters, but I don’t want to give anything away that will spoil the mystery. But I will say that the main characters have really grown on me. Bel (or Isabel) is a tough detective who has been through a lot and proved her strength. She and her Pitbull, Cerberus, are definitely my favorites!! Of course Eamon is pretty great too!! And I liked getting to know her father more in this one, he is a wonderful father. I have a couple of others, but I don’t want to give anything away. You need to read this series, I think you’ll love it like I do! It’s definitely a dark story, especially as far as the murders go.

Nicole Scarano just keeps pulling me further into her web of delicious storytelling hijinks, and Forensics of a Fable is a great example of that magical story weaving. I have absolutely fallen for Abel as much as Cerberus and Eamon have, I can’t seem to get enough of her and the evil that seems to follow where she goes. I’ve had a distinct sense of forbidding about the villain in this book that has lingered since the Autopsy of a Fairytale. Scarano does a great job of leading you in several wrong directions before revealing the true villain of her stories, and this was no exception. Bel has a new partner in this book and Gold becomes a new friend and a worthy partner. You already know the Eamon and Cerberus are still here, as well as Griffin, her boss, but there’s also a few new evils that have found their way to Bajka. There are so many twists and turns and we also learn a few new things about Bel and her family. There’s also a few other surprises waiting for you in this story. If this is how every story within this series is going to be, I can’t wait to gobble them up with the same enthusiasm as I did these last two! I haven’t been as engrossed in this type of series since I read J.D. Robb’s In Death series, which is still ongoing. I am on the verge of calling these 5 star reads, but I want to see if the same magic holds through at least one more book, but best believe I will be recommending this series to everyone!!!

I really enjoy this series. I struggle with how some writers make their FMC's so strong and independent. It's annoying. So it's refreshing to read about one who is vulnerable, and fallible. The take on some classic fairytales is also well written, and holy smokes, Eamon is so my kind of MMC!

    Would recommend this series.

Oh. My. Porridge. Another exquisitely unique and fascinating tale. The skill it takes to weave something so remarkable and thrilling into such a finely crafted web is awe inspiring and absolutely amazing. Everything from the cast of creative characters and plot to the subtle hints and intricate details stitched throughout is pure Chef’s Kiss 💋
This story had me hook, line and sinkered from the get-go and kept me on the edge of my seat, weaving through the twists and turns throughout. The slowly watered romance budding has my teeth grinding in anticipation and hope it will finally bloom fruitfully.
Please Note that although, once again, the story within these pages does come full circle, the end opens way to a hint at Book 3. And with that, Away I Goooo…

This is book 2 of the series. It's entertaining enough, but predictable. Some of the stuff meant to be Easter Eggs are too in your face and feel like it's screaming, "See! Look how witty I am!"

    Spoiler Alert

Book 2 takes from Goldie Locks and the 3 Bears. The main character, Detective Isobel Emerson, has a new partner named Olivia Gold. Olivia's love interest is the new guy in town, Ewan Orso (Orso is Italian for bear). Guess what? Gold(ie)'s love interest can turn into a bear! Shocker. The name of the town this all takes place in is Bajka. Bajka is Polish for fable.

Isobel's love interest starting in book one is millionaire Eamon Stone. He is a beast and she is Bel. He is very protective over her which makes sense as Eamon means "rich protector".

Lots of on the nose stuff, several typos.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend the series, but I wouldn't discourage people from reading it. It's brain candy, and sometimes we need easy reads

I was disappointed when I opened the book and it said PG-13 as I read far more graphic books.
It’s well written and the supernatural theme is superb. not for someone that is expecting smut.
