The issue is that he’s too sweet and innocent for this world, and I’m not sure that I’m strong enough to protect him, but I can’t bring myself to push him away.     Oh I just adored this book! It was everything I was hoping for and more. Cassel finally gets his turn to shine and get his man and I was so happy for him. We met Cassel in the Hitman series, and while this could stand alone, I highly recommend reading that series first to truly fall in love with all these characters. Everyone is back and in epic Alice Winter's style. We have the mystery, the action, the hilarity, and the romance. Everything was done so well. Cassel, who always seemed to take a back seat to Leland previously, finally gets his turn to show us, and Jeremy, what he can do and it was glorious.  Great story, intense action, humor that made me snort out loud, and a sweet HEA for Cassel and Jeremy! I couldn't have asked for anything more. This truly was Cassel and Jeremy's story with the perfect amount of  Leland, Jackson, and Henry along for the ride!  I cannot wait to experience it again in a few months when Michael Ferraiuolo brings it to life in the audio. I hope there is more planned in the future for this found family!

He’s had the hots for Jeremy for awhile and when an opportunity presents itself to help him, the two go in the run together to end the past from destroying the future. Both have secrets but eventually they share their pasts and fight to create their futures. The whole gang gets involved and things get bad for the bad guys. Really enjoying this series.

    I felt as if I was deceived by Cassel smile throughout the book too (laugh).
    Every time I felt like 'uh the story is a bit strange isn't it?' and then Cassel smiled and I was like 'well, maybe it should be that way.'
    However, I truly felt no one had more chemistry with Cassel than Leland.
    Not Jeremy that's for sure (sorry Jerebear).
    Every time he is with Leland I could feel Cassel is Cassel. Just being himself.
    Crazy, fun, adorable while being (a bit) badass.

    I did hope to get more stories where they would work together, though.

    So if you loved the Hitman series, this is for you. This story takes place after Leland and Jack's marry. Jeremy is a cop that has secrets, Cassel is a former hitman. For Cassel, it's love at 1st sight. It takes Jeremy a little longer to see Cassel's worth. It's a match made in heaven. This book is so funny, I truly enjoyed the heck outta this one!     I always re-read a series when a new book comes out and I’ve just reread the previous Hitmen books before this one. I remember thinking before that all of ice Winters characters have the same voice. Well, on a re-read I was more able to distinguish the differences between Leland and Cassel and between Jackson and Jeremy.

    Cassel is sweet and I liked getting to know him, but I feel like we maybe learn more about Jeremy than about Cassel in this book. It’s nice to see that the hitmen aren’t the only people who have something to hide. The story is good, but all the characters and “bad guys” get a little bit confusing. Not as much humor as the previous books.

    I hope we learn more about Chaos in the future. Is he anything like Lucas’ other boys?

    I previously would have said this was a 5-star read but after re-reading the Hitman series I’ve decided this isn’t quite as entertaining on a second read.

    It is hard to do justice to why this book is so good and why you should read it. Firstly, it's really well written with fully fleshed out characters and plot. All of the characters are individuals in their own right. You know if it's Henry or Leland talking immediately just from how they phrase. This is skilled writing considering colloquial dialogue is not used. Secondly, it's genuinely humorous in both dialogue and plot. It laughs at itself in how ridiculous some of the situations are. Thirdly, the relationships between the characters are developed well and none of interactions seem shallow. The brotherly love between Cassel and Leland shines through and highlights the dysfunctional relationship between Jeremy and his actual brother. So many hidden layers to such a fast-paced read. I can't wait to see what lies in wait with Chaos and if he connects more fully with Leland and Cassel. Fourthly, Fred!

    I laugh so much as I read these books. They are an absolute hoot to read but beyond humor they have terrific characters, stories, plotting, world building and great romance. This story is over the top and completely ridiculous as well as one of the most entertaining and enjoyable reads that I have read this year. All the characters from the previous books appear in this one and there is tons more trouble for the whole group. One of the best things about Alice Winters’ writing is that her characters change. For example Cassel who is one of the main characters in this book started out this series seeming to be a quiet,socially awkward person and by the end of this story he has come out of his shell and demonstrated unexpected skills and depth. The relationship between the main team has matured and deepened and the reason for the way certain people act the way they do has been somewhat explained. I really don’t want to give anything away about the plot, although if I did then this review would be as long as the book. Let’s just say that if you have read and liked the other books then you will probably enjoy this one and if you like mm action/comedy and haven’t read any of these books what are you waiting for? Enjoy.
