About the author

Jacqueline (Jackie) Lambert is an award-winning travel writer, adventure traveller, and dogmother, who loves history and curious facts.
B.C. (Before Canines) she hurtled, slid, submerged and threw herself off bits of every continent except Antarctica. Even though she was single at the time, she asked for – and was granted – 'maternity leave' to backpack around Fiji, Australia, and New Zealand.
A.D. (After Dog), with husband Mark, she gave up work to become an Adventure Caravanner. With The Fab Four, their four pups in tow, their stated aim is: To Boldly Go Where No Van Has Gone Before.
Jackie has published six light-hearted memoirs about her travels since quitting work: Fur Babies in France, Dog on the Rhine, Dogs ‘n’ Dracula, It Never Rains But It Paws, To Hel In A Hound Cart, and Pups on Piste.
Her forthcoming books will chronicle her Brexit-busting plan to convert a 24.5-tonne army truck and drive to Mongolia.
A keen off piste skier and windsurfer, Jackie is the wordsmith behind her own travel blog, www.WorldWideWalkies.com. She has contributed to several anthologies, and also writes articles and posts for publications such as Eurotunnel Le Shuttle Newsletter and Dog Friendly Magazine.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI really enjoyed Jackie Lambert’s adventurous romp. Along with her husband Mark, she and their fur babies caravanned around the South of France. They lead a life one can only dream of. Anyone can think about traveling in a caravan or a RV, but only a few can turn that dream into a reality. Definitely, they journeyed through the road less traveled.
I don’t think I could muster half the courage they did. I’m too inured by my creature comforts. Instead, I’ll settle into a warm cozy bed and grab my copy of 'Fur Babies in France: From Wage Slaves to Living the Dream’. I’ll catch up with the adventures in her books. Thank God, it’s a series as well as a stand-alone book!
I admire Jackie’s storytelling craft; it’s full of humor, gripping and sincere. She can even make windsurfing sound thrilling! She’s sharing a lot of logistics about how they were able to break away from their daily grind to living their dream. Jackie is generous with valuable travel tips. She encourages would-be travelers to pursue their aspirations. She inspires you to go after your dream and live it.
She’s refreshingly candid about their successes and failures. Through all the trials and errors, she plunges headlong on to a road full of unknown surprises. They’re a wonderfully entertaining read! I highly recommend her books.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is a hilarious account of newbie caravaners. Their story is an inspiration to all who love to travel and do their own thing. Some of the phrases were a little hard to follow and understand for an American who has never been to Europe. But I was able to get the gist of it. Looking forward to more adventures with this group.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseNot that I’ve ever contemplated leaving a stable home and spending months at a time living out of a caravan in Europe, but this book makes it sound like a fine idea. Warts and all. Nicely written with humor and genuinely good advice for those contemplating such a life-style. We get to meet four charming dogs, a competent husband and share the author’s love of adventure….from the comfort of one’s armchair.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI got the impression that the author's intended audience is British which (since I'm not British) meant there was a lot I didn't understand or didn't care about. She often described things by comparing them to British actors, shows and/or places, all of which meant nothing to me. I frequently got the impression that she was saying something she thought was funny, but I didn't get the humor.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWhat a fun book to read, full of humour, kept me wanting to read on to find out what excitement was to come. I love the part at the end where all the dogs personalities and traits are described, I feel like I know them just a little bit better now. Can't wait to read Year 2!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWhen Jackie and Mark lose their jobs and aren't well enough to work, the idea of buying a caravan and four dogs isn't top of the list of things to do. But somehow, the unlikely becomes real, and they find themselves as a pair of caravan virgins traveling around France. I'm not going to spoil the adventure by telling you what happens next. Suffice it to say that this book is a madcap romp around France, taking in some wonderful places and mind boggling situations. Whether you love or hate caravans, this is an enjoyable read, and I am looking forward to following the next adventures of this sextet.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI love travel memoirs! If they involve dogs, I usually enjoy them even more. I just did not enjoy this book, which was a real disappointment. It was just a boring rendition of her journey and I found nothing fascinating in it. Her daily tales were nothing more than day to day activities. There was nothing exciting about it. I didn't really learn much about the places she visited, so nothing gained there. I really looked forward to reading this book and the many books to follow, but at the 60% mark I grew bored and struggled to make it to the end of the book. I will not be reading the following books even though I received one for free.

4.0 out of 5 stars Full of enthusiasm
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseJackie’s enthusiasm for life and adventure leaps off the page. The hows and whys of their move from the 9 to 5 daily grind to caravan life are covered with emotion and laughter. This was a tough time for Jackie and Mark but the pair of them move forward and leap into their permanent life of impermanence, their tales told with a great deal of humour by Jackie.
I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't Put It Down
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis book is a great read. Both my wife and I found ourselves laughing out loud at sections. We take our Border Terrier in our camper to the Continent every year and wonders how the author manages to copes with her little pack of dogs.
Jacqueline Lambert is a gifted and witty writer.
We look forward to the second book in the series
