- Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2019If your kiddo loves to explore the great outdoors, then this is the book for you. The story is about a little child who is trying to observe insects. He (or she, the picture is rather androgynous) wants to draw them in his nature book. They all get away from him. However, he does befriend a wasp at the end.
I loved the rhythm and flow of the text which was a joy to read aloud. I also thought the very creative entries in the nature book at the end would encourage kids to try their own hand at imaginative bug pictures.
A thoroughly enjoyable experience that will I hope inspire young naturalists to explore without fear!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2020Love this book. Got it for a friend who just had a baby boy to read to him as he gets a littleolder. Remind me of a song she made up as a teacher working with young kids.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 2, 2020Kids will love spotting grasshoppers, worms and more in Bug Hunt. If you’ve got a little entomologist in your house, this book will be right in their butterfly net. The illustrations are lovely, as well.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2019What I Loved: I loved the little girl in this story. She is clearly so fascinated by bugs and just wants to see them, but they keep getting away from her!
How I Felt: I wasn’t sure if my daughter would be willing to read this book with all the creepy-crawlies in it, but the artwork was well done and she was interested! I got a bit nervous at the end of the book when the wasp chases her, but the author ended that part of the story so well. The wasp ends up being friends with her, which we all know is very out of character for wasps, so this little girl clearly found a special one!
To Read or Not To Read: This is a great book for kids with a love for insects! The writing is perfect for Pre-K to early elementary.
What’s This Book About Anyway?
A little girl wants to go on a bug hunt. She’s got all of her bug hunting gear: the clothes, bug container, and her bug book. She finds lots of insects, but she can’t seem to capture any of them. They keep getting away. She finally finds the wasp, but it chases her! She manages to capture it without getting stung and makes friends with it. Showing the wasp her adorable book, she calms him down and lets him out so that they can hang out together.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 2, 2020Great read for young children! It had a great storyline, but easily able to comprehend! I definitely recommend this book!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 1, 2019This is a great book about creepy crawlies. The storyline is set for up to 6th grade and 0-6 year olds. The storyline will keep the little ones coming back time and again wishing the bugs go in the catcher. The illustrations are precise for the insects.
Our little girl is going out to find some wiggly, jiggly things in the garden. She found a grasshopper. She just wanted to look at it and add it to her book. It good away. Come back for a chat. There are more she tries to catch and one of them is a spider. A lumpy, jumpy spider. It wriggles and ruffles and is off with a shuffle. Come back, come back for a chat. I just wanted to look and add you to my book. There are more she tries to get and I will let you discover those while you listen/read this book.

My 4 year old daughter really enjoyed the story and felt sorry for the girl in the story, so was able to empathise well. The illustrations are really lovely too.
