- Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2020Kylie and Spencer are a terrific couple to root for. Their thinly veiled feelings for each other come out in venom and banter that's just fun.
I need more books from Roseanne Beck. Her stories are light and fun with some good heart to them. Just the kind of stuff I love.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2020This was a fast and cute read about 2bike shop's owners, both stubborn. Both when to college together ,loved each other since then. But one always tried to outdo the other.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2020Roseanne is my kind of quirky. Gets my funny bone every time. Tickles in this book include "tornado tongue" and "nutcrackers". (You'll have to read it yourself to get the references.)
- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2023Spencer and Kylie used to date and now they are thrown together again and not just because they own the only two bike shops in town. Cute easy read and I liked the characters. The movement of the book was fast and kept your interest. Thank you HiddenGems for the book
- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2020In Gearing Up, Kylie and Spencer both love the movie The Princess Bride. That may be the only thing they agree on! Kylie and Spencer were college sweethearts until Kylie left. Kylie has hated Spencer since then - especially after he opened a competing (and more successful) bike shop in their small town. There is a lot of funny dialogue and sparks fly - especially after Kylie is forced to help Spencer when he is injured. You do not want to miss the wacky family members as you come along for this romance!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2020Since I have not read any of Roseanne Beck’s other books (which I will remedy very soon), I cannot compare “Gearing Up” to any of her other works, as some reviewers have done. From my fresh point of view, I thought “Gearing Up” was funny, sweet and romantic.
Spencer’s personality was adorable. He gets extra points for putting up with Kylie. For a female, Kylie’s personality was ... um... a little .... um.... “odd.” As a gender, women usually do not have the type personality which houses the extreme combative and competitive traits which Kylie displayed. She was always up in Spencer’s face, putting him down and flagrantly trying to best him at every turn - she never let up.
I liked that the story was written from the POV of both Kylie and Spencer. The other characters added to the overall humor of this book. I enjoyed reading “Gearing Up,” and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to read a sweet romance.
One more thing: “Gearing Up” is one of the very, very few romance novels by contemporary authors in which I have not found an overabundance of errors in settings, dates, events, punctuation, spelling or syntax. Some of the latest books I have read have so many errors and are so poorly composed that I wonder if they are written by people whose first language is something other than English. If I were an author, I would think it rude to expect my readers to pay for any of my books if they were so poorly written. I do not think we (as a buying public) would put up with such obvious, less-than-stellar workmanship in any other product. I do not know why readers let romance authors get away with it. So, Kudos to Ms Beck. She produced a flawlessly written, smooth flowing novel, with interesting characters and a sweet story, which was a joy to read.
I was given an ARC of this book by Hidden Gems. My review is voluntary. The opinions therein are my own.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2020This story was hilarious! The witty comments that Kylie makes and the rebuttals that Spencer gives are just so funny.
Kylie hasn’t been the same since her father’s death. It was always her and him against the world. It doesn’t help that the bike shop that they created needs a loan or that her competition, Spencer, has been teamed up with her for a project. When playing soccer against Spencer, he breaks his collarbone. With his Mom out of town, she takes care of him.
I loved Kylie and Spencer’s families. They acted just like a real family would. Loud, obnoxious, and lovable. I was intrigued throughout the book. I loved the combination od Spencer and Kylie. They were exciting and entertaining. I loved both of them.
I voluntarily agreed to review the book. There was a free copy provided to me.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2020It took me a few chapters to get into Roseanne Beck's "Gearing Up," mostly because it felt like I was starting in the middle of a story. It is the second book of Beck's Shifting into Love series and appears to pick up right where the first one ("Changing Gears") left off. I haven't yet read the first book, and there wasn't much in the way of context or backstory provided for some of the characters and events referenced in the early chapters of book #2. For this reason, it's probably best to read the series in order, though readers are unlikely to feel completely lost by starting here.
I'm glad I stuck it out through those early chapters because I really liked main characters Spence and Kylie, whose banter frequently made me chuckle. Kylie was determined to see Spence as her enemy, but I don't think he ever saw her the same way. They were very cute and funny together, and I found it easy to root for them to work through their differences.
The book's supporting characters were just as much fun as Kylie and Spence themselves. I particularly enjoyed Spence's employee Knox, who was always telling stories about his acid trips, Spence's grandfather, who tried to give him advice about women, and Kylie's Uncle Pete and Aunt Sheila, who acted as surrogate parents for Kylie and her sister.
Overall, "Gearing Up" was a cute, sweet story that I would recommend for fans of contemporary romance and romantic comedy. I would read more of this author's work in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5/5 snort-laughing "Best. Dinner. Ever." stars
I love a good second-chance romance, and in this case it's also frakkin' hilarious. :) This wonderful story made me laugh (a lot), cry (a little), and now I want to adopt every single crazy member of this extended family. Except for Gramps maybe, his level of crazy is way above my paygrade...
Unlimited bonus points for all the Princess Bride references. <3

4.0 out of 5 stars Meeting up with Kylie, Lauren and their guys Spencer and Jake
The story was good of Kylie and Spencer getting back together after breaking up awhile back after Kylie at a soccer match clattered into Spencer and broke his collar bone and had him stay with her. After a business misunderstanding they merged their businesses and got engaged as Lauren her sister and Jake had got engaged previously. Liked the book very much and will reread it look forward to the next one as I have them both so far and they pass the afternoon pleasantly and worth the money
