The Gingerbread House in Mistletoe Gardens: The perfect festive, feel-good romance from Jaimie Admans Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 1,366 ratings

The perfect cosy and uplifting romance to curl up with this winter! From bestselling author Jaimie Admans

In Mistletoe Gardens a legend exists: anyone who kisses underneath the mistletoe will be guaranteed another year of love…

When local baker Essie Browne discovers that Mistletoe Gardens is to be demolished in January, she’s determined to save the place she loves so much. So Essie proposes building a life size gingerbread house to bring in the crowds…just how hard can it be?

Well, quite hard actually. Essie can bake gingerbread blindfolded, but she hasn’t got a clue how to build an actual house with it! She needs help - and fast!

Enter local builder, Joss Hallissey. Essie is convinced that with Joss’s help they can pull this off. There’s just one tiny problem: Joss hates Christmas, gingerbread, and… well, just about everything else too.

Joss the Grinch makes it clear that her idea is ludicrous and pointless, but he reluctantly agrees to help with her plan.

Will the gingerbread house be enough to save Mistletoe Gardens? Or will Essie's chance for a magical kiss under the mistletoe be lost forever?

A heartwarming festive romance with a splash of magic swirled in. Perfect for fans of Holly Martin, Kat French and Caroline Roberts!

Jaimie is a 38-year-old English-sounding Welsh girl with an awkward-to-spell name. She lives in South Wales and enjoys writing, gardening, eating chocolate and drinking tea, although she’s seriously considering marrying her coffee machine. She loves autumn and winter, and singing songs from musicals despite the fact she’s got the voice of a dying hyena. She hates spiders, hot weather, and cheese & onion crisps. She spends too much time on Twitter and will never have time to read all the books she wants to read.

She is the author of several romantic comedies. Currently the Ever After Street series, and The Gingerbread House in Mistletoe Gardens for Boldwood Books, and previously wrote ten books for HarperCollins including The Chateau of Happily Ever Afters, The Little Bookshop of Love Stories, The Little Christmas Shop on Nutcracker Lane, The Post Box at the North Pole, and The Beekeeper at Elderflower Grove.

lovely and entertaining holiday romance

lovely and entertaining holiday romance
Utterly delightful and the perfect little holiday romance. Essie and Joss 🥺(<--- accurate representation of my face through like half the book). I loved watching them fall for each other while being completely in denial. The way they support and lift each other up is wonderful. I also really loved the slow burn of it all. Overall, an adorable, low angst gem with maybe, just maybe, the tiniest hint of holiday magic. If you're looking for a sweet, kissing only, swoony, tug at your heart strings, small town, grumpy/sunshine holiday romance, get yourself a copy of this one. I received a free advanced copy. This review is voluntary and my honest opinion.

A good old fashion romance in a small town trying to save Mistletoe Gardens. I laughed, I cried, I got any, I felt sadness, but what a great read, one back of a good story and I owe it to this very gifted author, Jaimie Admans.

I enjoyed The Gingerbread House in Mistletoe Garden by Jaimie Admans. Although the book got off to a slow start, the pace picked up as the story progressed. Very good description. Got a good feel for what it would be like to build a life size gingerbread house. The main characters, Essie and Joss were likeable and well-developed. And there was an interesting and unusual assortment of minor characters. Nice story, happy ending - just wish I could've gotten to the good parts a little quicker.

Typical Hallmark movie storyline. Fun, sweet, romance, and predictable ending. I had fun reading it just to see what Essie and Joss would do next and how they would finally declare love. It got he into the spirit of at least Christmas baking, and the different notes about gingerbread at the beginning of each chapter where fascinating.
I received an ARC copy from NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.

A wonderful Christmas romance. Essie brings Joss back to life and he believes in her and her vision of a life-size gingerbread house. The secondary characters are delightful, with stories of their own to tell. Another winner from Jaimie Adams.

Jaimie Admans’ The Gingerbread House in Mistletoe Gardens is a festive and heartwarming story, focusing on romance and the importance of community. Set in a small town in South Wales at Christmastime with a gaggle of eccentric local characters, this tale was sweet and uplifting. Fewer house building details and trimming some of the more repetitive bits would have made for a more impactful story, in my humble opinion. But it is still filled with plenty of Christmas cheer and magic, and was a fun read. And I loved the historical details about gingerbread that began each chapter!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for a complimentary ARC. Opinions are my own.

Essie is at the resident's meeting with her mother, when the council representative announces the plan to build on Mistletoe Gardens in the new year. Coming up with a scheme to increase its use, she suggests a life-size gingerbread house, which leads her to Joss, a surly builder uninterested in Christmas or other people.
This is a wonderful story set in Wales. Funny, sentimental, romantic, with a brilliant cast of characters and a delightful heroine. Full of Christmas magic, I laughed and I cried. Beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars A cwtch of a book
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 22, 2024
This is a feel-good romance that goes beyond the surface, exploring themes of self-belief, healing, and the power of opening one's heart. Essie's resilience and kindness shine through, providing a touching contrast to Joss's initially gruff demeanour. The use of the Welsh term "cwtch" adds a layer of endearment to their relationship, symbolising a much deeper connection than a simple hug.

The supporting cast of characters, including the eccentric Mr. Arkins and the Mystical Magical Magi, adds humour and charm to the narrative. The town's sense of community is beautifully depicted, especially as it comes together to support Essie in her Christmas project. The inclusion of gingerbread facts at the beginning of each chapter is a great addition which provides interesting insights into the world of gingerbread. The concept of building a life-sized gingerbread house serves as a unique, (surprisingly) believable and engaging backdrop for the blossoming relationship between Essie and Joss.

Overall this novel is sweet and heartwarming, a Christmas story that captures the essence of the value of a supportive community, love and second chances.
