Editorial Reviews
Review
"Girls Who Lie" is another excellent story that can be read on its own even if it is part of a series we have enough background information to fit right in and not wonder if we missed something. This series is definitely gripping and highly addictive. - Amazon Review
★★★★★ Who Will Be the Next Girl to Die?
Once more Melinda Woodhall brought us a very suspenseful ride from the opening pages we are kept guessing trying to discover who the killer may be. We have multiple "whodunits" to pick from but are attention is slowly directed towards a dating app. Who is lurking and may be luring these women.... The author pulls one red herring after the other to derail us and to keep us engrossed all through. Indeed I was totally in left field with my choice and had the wrong killer all along....a sure sign the author knows how to pen an exciting mystery. - Book Sirens Review
★★★★★ Amazing book!
Another amazing book by a Melinda Woodhall! Mystery books have always been my favorite but I often struggle to find books that really pull me in. This book did just that. It's one of those books that you struggle to put down, and just when you think you've figured it all out something happens that makes you realize you have no idea. It's amazing how the author not only builds up her characters so much, but she also makes them relatable. I have enjoy reading this book along with the others in this series and can't recommend it more. - Book Sirens Review
★★★★★ Best book of Series!
Best book of the series yet! -
I have read them in order but I believe it is possible to read them independently. Fast moving mystery, thriller. The characters are realistic and conversational. It will keep you guessing right up to the end. Jacket cover gives adequate description so no book report here. Just read and enjoy. - Amazon Review
★★★★★ Willow Bay Stalker - Another great addition to the Mercy Harbor Thriller series. An engrossing story about a serial killer, the "Willow Bay Stalker", which will keep you turning the page to see what is going to happen next. Well written and love the cast of characters. From reading series you feel as if you know them personally. Although this part of a series, which I recommend, this book can be read as a standalone. The book is full of suspense and will keep you guessing as to who the killer is. The book has a bittersweet ending, which I won't spoil for you, but must say it brought a tear to my eye. Highly recommend. -Book Sirens Review
★★★★★ Amazing book! - This is an extremely well written series with very detailed and knowledgeable characters. This is the fourth book in this series and in my opinion you should read them in order because there are a few things that were mentioned that refer back to the other books. Woodhall has done a stupendous job in writing an entertaining, intriguing novel. I definitely recommend this book. - Amazon Review

- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseTwo young women in Willow Bay have been brutally attacked, and though Detective Nessa Ainsley is hard at work on the case, a third woman is attacked and murdered. One of the women is essentially in hiding at her home, while the second has taken refuge at Mercy Harbor, Eden Winthrop’s shelter for battered women. Sabrina West, an investigative reporter for a local news station, is determined to advance her career by solving the case before the police do, and is exploring a dangerous line of questioning in order to get the story. Her roommate and best friend, Veronica Lee, is tired of being nothing more than Channel Ten’s weather girl, and dreams of a successful career and a happy life while watching Sabrina’s star rise.
Detective Nessa Ainsley, now acting Chief of Police, is a caring and confident woman who wants nothing more than to make the community of Willow Bay safe for its residents. The previous books in this series shed light on the long-time corruption that Nessa is fighting against, and this one exposes another link in that chain. Eden is preparing for her wedding to Leo, former Detective Pete Barker has opened a private investigating agency with Frankie, and the new characters fit seamlessly in with the existing residents of Willow Bay. I have to admit that I did not figure out who the Willow Bay Stalker actually was, and was surprised at the outcome. Once again, Melinda Woodhall has delivered an exciting and suspenseful story about the residents of Willow Bay.
My thanks to BookSirens and to the publisher and author for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis series grabbed me at the very first book, The River Girls.
I read the entire series in a week. Finishing the first book, I quickly downloaded the 2nd. Then, the third, I swore to myself I'd take a break from the series, but I just couldn't do it. These books kept me guessing, kept me turning the pages as I grew to consider all the characters as part of my extended family.
Are these great literature, no. But they are great quick, thrillers with a dash of romance that are perfect for a day at the beach or a rainy night.
I found a new author to read and can't wait to dive into her other series.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2020Format: KindleAs Nessa is trying to win back the hearts of Willow Bay’s residents and ensure their safety, a stalker has preyed on two victims who have suffered vicious wounds that have ended in surgery to repair. In true Eden fashion, she has found herself trying to help solve the case and with the help of a young reporter and many others, new evidence is revealed making them all realize that the stalker might actually be a serial killer who claimed his first victim years ago. I had my suspicions on who the stalker/killer might be and despite knowing who it might be in the back of mind, I was still surprised. The reasoning behind the stalker/killer’s actions was disturbing to say the least. How one event in someone’s life could lead to a string of events that resulted in battered victims and homicides. The additional homicide near the end was a real shocker. Never saw that coming so well played Melinda! The city council is consisted of a group of older men, who see things in black and white and believe that men are the superior race. I love how Nessa stands her ground and is appointed as the interim chief of police! She is the perfect person for the position and I wish we could see how she does in her role. Fingers crossed the other series has her in it! As the final book in the series, this book ended on a good note with the HEA and cliffhanger, but I wish there was an epilogue or more to the book. I am left wondering what is going to happen to everyone and the pending relationships that are forming in this book. Sad to say goodbye to this group of characters I have grown to like and get to know, but happy that it ended the way that it did. I recommend reading it after the other books even though it can be read as a standalone.
I received an ARC copy of this book and I am voluntarily sharing my thoughts on it.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI have read a number of series by Melinda Woodhall, and this one has been a joy to complete. Although I have already read the Veronica Lee series, this series gave me the beginning of the setup for the Veronica Lee series. Melinda is a great author with interesting characters and the thrillers are extremely thought provoking!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI really enjoyed reading this series. The characters evolved all through the books and kept me interested to see what might happen next. Having spent many of my summers visiting with my grandparents in a similar small town where there the residents find security in knowing that there are few strangers, I found it enticing to try to figure out who the killer/bad guy was as I read.
I will be looking for more of this authors books in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Girls Who Lie
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis rating was an easy choice simply because it was a fantastic read. It had exactly what I expect from this author. Mystery, suspence, a few twists to keep the reader on her toes, just enough romance to keep you interested in the characters, and a little family life and lightheartedness. This book, this whole series is great. I've read several and really enjoy them. Kudos to Melinda Woodhall.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant must read
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis whole series is exceptional, keeps the reader interested from the first word to the last.
Could the series be extended? I thought probably, but then over used of characters and storyline could spoil the series, the other made the right decision to end it on a high note.
