From an early age, romance author Avina St. Graves spent her days imagining fantasy worlds and dreamy fictional men, which spurred on from her introverted tendencies. My first read in the Exodus series and I was not disappointed.“Did you survive? Or did you d** that day, and you’ve been walking around without your soul? Or did you lose it years before when you left home carrying nothing but your mother’s words?”As a girl with mommy issues who works in a male dominated field - I devoured this book. I didn’t know i needed a mathijs in my life, but I didn’t want to leave him and zalak. My only complaint is that I didn’t get more of them.

    Also he book touches deep and darker themes which are written and described perfectly throughout the book, the PTSD representation was increadible and the author really did justice to the mental issues of the characters.

    In my opinion it couldve gone a little more in dept between chapters instead of having many time jumps but it is understandable since this is a novella.

    Nevertheless, I fully recommend this book.

    I feel like I don't have the perfect words to convey how amazing this book was. I couldn't stop reading this book despite my adult duties. Talk about a forceful, domineering female character. It's been a while since I read a female role like this.

    I don't want to spoil the tale, but I'm invested in the Exodus empire. I don't entirely understand its aim, but I know they're a vicious and dangerous society that causes havoc. It's delicious.

    I will, of course, allow the ladies to swoon over Mathijs for obvious reasons.

    But for me Zalak. Zalak is where it’s at. Grant it , the two of them together are an unstoppable force. No doubt

    But I got actual goosebumps from Zalak ‘s rawness and the way she was revealing layer upon layer of deeply ingrained grief. and yet … she is an incredibly bad *** woman with unbelievable combat skills.

    Those idiots had no chance against the GI Jane antics she unleashed upon them. Thoroughly entertained!

    Zalak embodies all that is seductive. She is stunning and irresistible and who is crushing on her … not me?!

    I could go on and on about the bloodshed, lust, and action in this seamless, fast-paced tale. But that would mean you will still be here when you should be ordering and reading this book

    Zalak and Mathajis were always meant to be endgame. Returning home to accept a job from Mathajis after running away to join the military, Zalak now protects him with her life at the cost of protecting herself.

    I love a good Black Cat/Golden Retriever and Scorpion delivered. This is hands down Avina’s best book to date.

    Zalak’s battle with PTSD was written really well. It was difficult to watch a character struggle to the point of attempted suicide, but the emotions were raw and real. I really appreciated how Mathajis was strong enough for both of them when Zalak was struggling with depression and thoughts of suicide.

    Scorpion is an excellent introduction to The Exodus series. While the books can be read in any order, I recommend starting here.

    Scorpion is perfect for readers who enjoy a secret society that hunts humans for sport, a bodyguard romance where the badass female protects him, and an MC with a haunted past fighting for the will to live.

    It will come to no surprise that this is an instant 5 star read! Avina just knows how to grab my attention and these two characters? I'm obsessed!

    I've started typing this review a few times now and I'm not sure where to start! In this book we follow the lives of Zalak Bhatia and Mathijs Halenbeek. They were childhood sweethearts and Zalak unfortunately had to move on without him in her life. Mathijs returns though.... exactly when she needs him. Offers her a job and then their journey back to each other starts.

    I know I say this with all Avina's MMC's but Mathijs really owns my heart and I would let him speak Dutch to me any day! I'm happy to see him mend himself as well, as he supports Zalak in her journey to be herself again. It's honestly them against it all in the end and it makes my heart happy.

    Zalak suprised me, I wasn't expecting everything that happened and the type of "strong" she actually is. It was a good surprise though and my heart bleeds for her.

    I really enjoyed this book, it's interesting, a fast read and the spice? It does things for me 😂😍There is a point where I cried happy tears because I felt like Zalak finally saw herself as worthy and it just spoke to my soul. I can't wait to see how the rest of this secret society unfolds.
