The Grand Pact (The Grand Men Series) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 2,376 ratings

We all have a dream.
But I think I preferred holding mine at arm’s length...

It’s not that I don’t want to go to New York.
It’s that it’s
all I’ve ever wanted.
So when a dream internship lands in my lap, the last thing I should be doing is hesitating.

Elliot thinks I should take it — he’s always believed in me.

Smirking, smouldering Elliot Montgomery.
Playboy-about-town.
Notorious womaniser.
And...dearest friend?

It was Elliot’s arms I’d innocently fallen asleep between on lonely nights.

And those same arms that promised all kinds of unspeakable things when I found myself writhing between them...

But even as he threw me out of my comfort zone, Elliot promised me something immeasurable.

So now I’m here, living my fashion design dreams in the trustiest outfit I own — indecision. But the longer I stay in New York, the further I feel myself drift from everything I thought I wanted.

And somehow, absence is making the heat grow stronger...

If Elliot Montgomery is no Prince Charming, why does he feel like happily ever after?

BRB. GOING TO BUY THE PHYSICAL COPY FOR THE SHELVES ASAP.
I am unbelievably lucky that I received this as an ARC from JC Hawke. I have been looking forward to this book for the longest time and it definitely didn't let me down. This can be read as a standalone, but I feel like it reads best if you read the Grand Love Duet prior to this one! Lucy and Elliot have been best friends for years thanks to their best friends (Mase and Nina) marriage. While there is some obvious chemistry between the two they have exclusively written each other off as nothing more than best friends, but when Elliot finds out Luce got an internship in NYC he finds a pretty good way to convince Luce to take a risk and accept it, but will this one moment of weakness between the two friends set off a sequence of events neither of them were expecting? Will Lucy meet new people and have the best experience of her life in New York City? Can Elliot let Lucy go and make something of her time away from friends and family? Will the two stick to the children pact Elliot offered up when Luce and Miller broke up? Are Lucy's new friends really her friends or is she is just too naïve to see the danger in front of her? Will it be too late when Elliot and Lucy finally decide how they feel about each other? And in the words of Ell, "Who the eff is Maxwell?" I fell in love with Lucy and Elliot in the Grand Love Duet, so when JC announced that Elliot and Luce were finally get their story I was squealing with excitement. Elliot is notorious for his playboy ways while Lucy has a five year plan that she refuses to deviate from. Through the first half of the book I believed nothing could go wrong, but watching Elliot break over Lucy in the third act breakup had me sobbing. He was so angry and watching Lucy want to fix it so bad broke me little by little, page by page. Maxwell was sus from the beginning and it irritated me so much to watch Lucy be so oblivious to the danger in front of her. Lets be honest though, it was the last few sentences that really messed me up. SCAR?! AVE?! WUT.

I’m not a big lover of the friends to lovers trope. I just feel like they get way too in their own heads and it frustrates the shit out of me. Case in point Lucy and Elliot from @authorjchawke’s The Grand Pact.

These two over the course of the book told each other “outta your head” multiple times. So needless to say several people got messages from me about how frustrating these two were and how they just need to say damnit I like you lol.

But that being said I do believe there is a right and a wrong way to write friends to lovers and JC did a fantastic job. I truly didn’t want to put it down (unfortunately at times I had to but I didn’t want to).

Luce and Ell were so meant to be but they just couldn’t see past the friendship till one day they pushed a little too far. But then it was always the wrong time. Did they both have moments where they were in the wrong and hurt the other, yes. But in the end they realized what everyone else had been seeing and set out to do things the right way. But of course life isn’t always that easy, but epic isn’t easy 😉

And these two are quite epic in my opinion.

I've read the entire series, and they were good, and sometimes very funny. I loved all the characters and was jealous I wasn't in their pact. But this one fell apart mid ways in the story line. The whole thing with Maxwell was just confusing. With Maxwell came two more new characters, Alex and Polly. And the older man she meets at a cemetery and winds up living in his home. Very strange. if to Elliott and the pact. Not my favorite book by far..

*instantly adds Elliot to my book boyfriend list*

    ELLIOT AND LUCY!
It’s about time we got their story. And story it was!

Elliot and Lucy are BFFs who always come close to crossing the line but never do.
Elliot is a notorious playboy and Lucy wants her Prince Charming. Obviously their goals are not compatible.
Until they make a pact. Elliot just wants Lucy to live her best life. Step out of her comfort zone!
He encourages her to pursue her fashion dream in New York.
You would think a long distance love story wouldn’t work. But it really does.

Elliot loves Lucy so he acts on the adage
“If you love someone, set them free. If they come back they're yours; if they don't they never were”
Does that backfire you will have to read to find out.

This story is so sweet and endearing. Elliot is better than I thought he would be.

I’m happy for them and glad Tuesday came around ;)

*this book is a standalone HOWEVER it would be better loved if you read the promise duet before*

Friends to lovers is always fun, the push and pull of the will they or won’t they take that step into something more than a friendship. I think easily the best part of this book is the friendship between Lucy and Elliot. They have a years long pre-existing friendship. They are part of a pretty large friendship group, but these two really seem to have an understand of each other that is fantastic and they also are very accepting of each other, faults and all.
For me the pacing was an issue for me. I thought that the beginning of the book started a little on the slow side, I wasn’t super pulled in. I actually thought it was interesting that it wasn’t until there was an ocean between Lucy and Elliot that I started being a lot more pulled into the story. Pacing wise I also thought the back third of the book moved too fast, I wished I been a just a little bit slowed down and I think the emotional payoff would have been better, but that’s just me.
There’s ton of angst in this book. Elliot trying to do the right thing and ending up really hurting Lucy. Lucy making choices that weren’t great, mostly because I think she had some real self-esteem issues. Elliot’s decisions also seem to come from a play of self-doubt, not feeling like he is good enough for someone like Lucy. If not for some meddling friends I kind of wonder how long it would have taken for these two to talk it out.
There was kind of a side story going on that honestly kind of felt like it popped out of nowhere. Lucy has a friendship/relationship with a guy in NYC and he’s not the best, and the people he brings into her life only bring problems. I kind of wonder if it was necessary, because we don’t really get that much detail about what really happened.
For me I think this was a solid book, probably a 3.5, and definitely good enough for me to try another book by this author in the future.

I already knew I would love Elliott from the grand debut but to get more of him was more than I expected. How the story unfolded, the tears, the laughter was just wonderful. The way JC is with writing a book and the thought put into it just blows me away. I couldn’t stop reading it if I tried. I really can’t recommend this serious enough. Elliott and Lucy’s story was such a beautiful unfolding and I didn’t expect all the emotions with it. The ups and downs, the push a pulling. Just reminds you no matter how much you try to fight against things and feelings sometimes you just have to let everything go and flow with it. Everything happens for a reason.

The MC is relatable and she does have faults, some of the choices she makes did get on my nerves. It does really give the story more depth so I understand why the choices were in there but I found them fairly redundant. Overall this was a VERY cute love story with an amazing arc!

Whole cow this book had me on the edge of my seat and on an emotional rollercoaster. I wasn’t totally sure that Lucy and Elliot were going to make it.

There was a lot of build up with Lucy and Elliot and it drove me crazy. Like I kept waiting for it to happen each chapter and when it didn’t I died a little inside.

I love how Lucy saw who the real Elliot was behind all the labels that other put on him. He genuinely seems like an amazing guy who would do anything for Lucy.

The steamy moments in the book were so hot and like I said earlier there was build up but during the build up there was some pretty epic moments.

I can’t wait until the next book about Lance and Scarlet and to learn about their story.

I am a very avid reader of romance books, often reading more than one a day. I have a bookshelf reserved for those books that make my heart sing and bleed in equal measure, it's a very small bookshelf and I now know as soon as I can get my hands on a hard copy this will be front and centre! Right alongside my copies of Grand Lies/Love.

Please, please , please take time to read Grand Lies and Grand Love before reading the Grand Pact. Elliot and Lucy's story begins long before the beginning of the Grand Pact and you must understand their beginnings and that of their friends to understand the dynamic between them.

It blows my mind when I think that this is only JC Hawkes 3rd book! The writing, the storyline, the characters are all so tangible it's rarely paralleled in this genre.

I have spent the day stopping and starting my reading, unable to deal with the feelings in one sitting. My husband has been worried about the amount of sighing and tear wiping I have been doing. All redeemed with one of the most hillarious epilogues ever!

An absolute must read! Definitely an author to follow and if you haven't got the previous books on your tbr list, do it now!

No cliff hangers hear but an absolute jaw dropper of a reveal at the end so I am still desperate for the next book from JC hawke

I was super lucky to get an ARC for this book and it is just perfection. When Elliot and Luce were introduced in the promise duet I already knew I would fall in love with them. By the end of their book they're some of my fave characters I've read. This story was so good. Well written with the perfect amount of spice, tension and a little drama.
I did get a little confused about who one of the characters was and where they fit in but it was sort of revealed at the end. Otherwise a great story and I highly recommend 😊

It's a documentary of a lady who seems to go around trading sexual favours to men in return for helping her out, all because she impulsively tends to be 'dependent' on people. I am surprised the author who has such good expressions with words would waste her talent on such stuff. I kept waiting for the heroine to do something great at her work place but it was all about pining for a friend who wanted her to succeed and went on to distract her with his sexual innuendos

    THE GRAND PACT

This was one of my most anticipated reads for 2022! Not only is it being released earlier than expected, i got an ARC copy 🙌 i could have read this book in one sitting because I wanted to know everything about Elliot and Lucy yesterday. 😂 However I managed to stretch it over two evenings.

Its brilliant from the first page, I love how Elliot is with Lucy and visa versa. Elliot only wants to best for Lucy and his heart is in the right place however his decisions lead to Lucy feeling alone and isolated.
I don't want to giveaway the plot or spoil it for anyone else.

I would recommend reading Grand lies and Grand love first as it introduces all the characters and dynamics in the group.

Grand pact made me laugh out loud, made me blush (a few times actually) made me cry and swoon, sometimes all at the  same time
