But when Isaac doesn't turn up on their seventeenth birthday and the two break up, Violet is left heartbroken and all of their plans for the future disappear.

Isaac attempts to reconnect all summer break, but as their last year of school begins, Violet refuses to listen.

Their final year already has enough challenges as they both contemplate their future, but the biggest challenge comes when Violet and Isaac are forced to work on a project together.

“There’s no world I want to live in where I can accept that Violet is done with me. She’s it for me, always has been and always will be.”

    Rating: 5/5⭐️
This is officially my favorite YA romance ever and one of my top books of the year so far. I can’t express enough how obsessed I am with Issac and Violet’s love story. This whole book had me smiling, giggling, kicking my feet, and screaming into my pillow out of sheer cuteness. Their romance is so sweet and pure. They pair so well together and you can really see and understand why they love each other.

Outside of just their romance, the rest of the book is also just perfect. I loved all of the side characters, Issac’s little sister and their friends and the little side romance between Luke and Jinhee. This also totally transported me back to senior year of high school with how accurately all the stress of college applications and such was written, and even though now I can look back and realize it wasn’t that big of a deal, this reminded me of all those feelings I had then. And for once, I loved the book playlist! I could see all the ways a bunch of my favorite songs fit into this and inspired little bits of it and I just loved it!

Premise: The Story of Us follows the love story of seventeen year olds Violet Ayaz and Isaac Evans during their last year before university. The two met when they were eleven on Violet’s first day at the boarding school they attend. What started as a friendship formed based on their shared birthday slowly grows into deeper feelings and a secret relationship. That is, until Issac misses their seventeenth birthday and then breaks Violet’s heart. After Violet spends the summer ignoring Issac’s attempts to talk, she is not thrilled when school starts up again and she gets stuck partnered with him on a project. Issac on the other hand, is ready to take this and any other opportunity he can to get Violet back. But with graduation looming ahead of them, they both have big decisions to make about their futures and whether or not those futures will involve each other.

I thought all of the characters were pretty dry and then she like overdescribed a lot of the scenes like “we get it they like each other” it got really repetitive to the point where I skipped the last hundred pages and just read the last twenty pages. I think was great plot and story idea just executed poorly.

ok wow. first of all thank you so much for the arc, and this post should've been up yesterday but the eras tour kinda messed up my plans.

okay so it's been so long since i got to read a book where i could just enjoy the characters and how wholesome they were without having anything putting me off it.

violet, the fmc, was amazing. i loved her, the way she wrote her stories, and how even after being hurt she still had so much love to give.

now isaac, the mmc, was absolutely incredible. the definition of a simp and i'm here for it!! he messed up and hurt her, and he knows that, but he's willing to do anything to get her back, and he's happy to let her set the pace, not rushing her into anything.

i loved how they worked together, the writer and the artist, and their whole dynamic and relationship had me kicking and giggling while reading it.

if you're looking for a lighthearted read that's with great characters and friendships (bonus point if you're a swiftie), i would definitely recommend this book!!🩷

Sometimes you just need a truly heartfelt, well written and emotional book. This hit all the spots. I love this story and can’t wait to read more from Zarin.

    *sobbing uncontrollably*

this book was SO cute and i really loved it!!

Isaac and Violet are meant for each other and i loved watching them learn about each other and basically grow up together. Isaac loves with his whole mf chest and i was rooting for them the whole time. you cant help but root for them. i am also a sucker for a nickname and the one he gave her is cutest thing ever.

my favorite chapter has to be chapter 38 because i just happened to be listening to Enchanted by Taylor Swift and it just made me sob.

Zarin wrote really relatable characters and scenarios. i cant wait to see what else she writes!

“we were written in the stars, but you shine the brightest out of all of them. it hasn’t been easy for us, but i don’t need it to be. every single moment we spend together, good, or bad, is life-altering just because i’m with you in it.”

When I tell you it's the best one, I mean it and I read a lot of them. I went through an emotional roller coaster and it was amazing. The way his feelings got written down and how he always thinks about her.. I love how he shows his feelings. This is definitely for everyone who loves sappy romance movies

I don't even know how to put into words how much I loved Isaac and Violet's story! The last few chapters had me sobbing while my heart was bursting from all the happiness I felt for those two.

Zarin has written the most swoon-worthy MMC and I couldn't help but root for him. Isaac has the sweetest soul, he is such a romantic, and I loved how he made every moment with Violet feel special.

The Story Of Us brings us along the journey of Violet and Isaac navigating life back to school, after their unexpected breakup before the summer. The story starts a bit slow, it can be a bit frustrating to not know the reason for their breakup for a while, but we get snippets of the past, documenting the evolution of the two MCs' relationship, from friends to infatuated teenagers to secret boyfriend and girlfriend.

Their story is so beautiful, I'm a sucker for the "meant-to-be" kind of relationships and I think Zarin's writing has woven such a wonderful tale of two soulmates finding their way to each other.
I absolutely loved how their project ended up, it was totally the highlight of the book, and I wish it could truly be made into a short animated movie for us to see.

There was a lot of growth from the two MCs, it was such a pivotal year in their lives, being the last year before college, and navigating all that comes with it while adding parents and their expectations on top of the lasting effects of their heartbreak plus their healing and reconnecting with each other. It was a lot but they made the best of it.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Story of Us Review
Reviewed in Canada on August 21, 2024
The Story of Us captures the beauty, innocence, and hope of first love, while also capturing the pain, and loss that comes with a first heartbreak. It also shows the truth behind a second chance that though that love may not be the same it can be so much better.

Following the story of Isaac and Violet, we see the struggle, pain, and regret of a first love once hidden away from the world and the “inevitable” breakdown. This story was so beautifully crafted and I loved the flashbacks to the previous years so we as the readers could see how the friendship began and when it began to shift to something more.

We see the true high school experience as well. The pressure from parents, the pressure from ourselves and having to figure out what we want. We also see healthy friendships which is so refreshing. I loved Isaac and Luke’s friendship. It was nice to see a male friendship that wasn’t doused in the typical boyish rousing.

The parental aspect was also a great focal point. How two types of parents can influence how people handle life. I love how strong Violet was and her ability to see why her mom may be feeling the way she is but not allowing herself to be made small because of the dreams she has. Isaac working through his own parental issues was heartbreaking but in the end her did what needed to be done.

    I highly recommend this book.
