4.6 out of 5 stars 114 ratings

Ex-police officer, JJ Jenson, is a good man who has led a colourful but turbulent life. He’s seen death and destruction in its many forms. When personal tragedy strikes, JJ turns his back on his former life, and returns to his childhood home in search of peace, preferring to view life through the lens of his camera.

But when his camera captures the death of local woman Amber Wilton, the world of murder and deceit drags JJ back into its fold. Working with an old adversary, JJ is determined to prove Amber was murdered and to catch her killer.

The investigation gives JJ a new lease on life, but moving forward means revisiting his past. He’s being taken back into a world which might destroy the peace he has found. Will JJ fend off his demons and catch the killer?

Marcia has enjoyed writing for many years, but originally only for pleasure and friends or family. Marcia wrote Murderous Mishaps for a friend, who after regaling her with all the latest gossip said 'they wouldn't believe you if you wrote it down.' So she did. All based on true stories, but totally exaggerated, of course.

Since then, Marcia has written the ongoing Meredith & Hodge crime series. The Bearing Witness series, which has a touch of the paranormal & a cozy mystery series, The Little Compton Mysteries, and has recently released a new series, introducing JJ Jenson. There have also been a few standalone novels, but yes, they are all murder/mysteries. So far. . .

Marcia is married, with two children, two grandchildren and a German Shepherd - Ted. They live in Bristol, UK.

After 25 years on the force, a personal tragedy makes former police officer J.J. Jenson take a hard left back into private life. He’s found a good woman who is helping him heal, and a new love in art photography. Out late for some night photography, he sees a local woman take a header off of a bridge and he’s dragged right back into investigating, especially since the local detective is a loser with an attitude. The investigation invigorates him, but stirs up a lot of pain as well. Can he keep his demons at bay while catching a killer?

I am a huge fan of M.K. Turner, and was excited to see a completely new series. I really liked J.J. He’s the kind of cop you hope you find when tragedy strikes. After leaving The Job, he became a missionary, then a photographer, and now stumbles into a job as a private investigator. I like that he doesn’t let his past pain cripple him today, and that he hasn’t lost his humanity despite his tribulations. The characters are likeable and well developed, the plot held my interest all the way through, and I was sad when it was over. I look forward to the next in the series.

Turner also writes the fabulous Meredith and Hodge series (Meredith is my no. 1 book boyfriend); the Bearing Witness series; the Little Compton series; and some stand alones. I hope Jenson is around for a while.

This and the second in the series have good ratings, so I bought both on a whim. I am glad I did, at least having finished the first. The characters are quirky, complicated, and yet fun, and I didn’t figure out “who done it” although it made sense. I am interested in reading what happens next.

As in all of M K Turner’s mystery series, the characters in An Ill Wind are strong and interesting. The lead, JJJensen has his own demons to wrestle with, and as fate would have it, a blast from his past shows up to make it even more interesting. JJ’s strong, forthright partner Sharon is also a character I can’t wait to read more about. I thought the storyline was easy to follow, kept me guessing, and I can honestly say I didn’t see the the murderer.

As is typical with M K, the plot starts slowly and builds until you can’t wait to get to the end, but then you don’t want to get to the end either. Such a wonderful dilemma to have.

Great story...loved the characters. I had the murderer pegged as someone completely opposite of who it really was. It made sense at the end, of course. In hindsight I remember the clues.

M.K. Turner combines a grisly murder with the warm heart of village life in this book. I only hope the JJ Jenson series has many more murders and events for this new detective to solve. Like the Meredith and Hodge series, the combination of characters are built into a relationship with the reader so that the reader wants more!

A great book with well-rounded characters. I was quickly transported into the world of ex cop JJ and although on my first encounter with Davie I wasn't keen on him, I very quickly warmed to the brash and rather outspoken reporter.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good murder mystery

An excellent start to what I hope will be a new series from M K Turner. Thoroughly enjoyed this murder mystery which also has a lot of humour. I didn't work out "who dunit" I'm happy to say, kept me guessing till the end. I found the main character JJ very likeable (he has maybe a slight touch of our beloved Meredith, which is no bad thing!). JJ's next case is nicely set up for him so fingers crossed there will be more.
