The Gypsy and the Gentleman: A Swapped Identities Matchmaking Regency (Scandalous Miss Brightwell Series Book 8) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 79 ratings

Impersonating the cousin of a debutante who is to attend Lady Quamby’s “Instruction in the Art of Graceful Accomplishments”, Tilly finds herself out of her depth when she falls for the man she believes is just the lowly dancing master.

But when their roles are reversed and Tilly discovers Henry is about to inherit an earldom, can she accept his marriage offer in good conscience?

For while Henry is determined that the disparity in their social standing will not prevent their happily-ever-after, Tilly knows something – or someone – who will.

The Gypsy and the Gentleman is Book 8 in the Scandalous Miss Brightwell series but can be read as a standalone.

"Rich historical romance filled with buried secrets and simmering passion, where determined heroines challenge society's rules to find true love and their own destiny."

Award-winning author Beverley Oakley crafts emotionally intense historical romances that transport readers to the glittering yet treacherous world of Georgian, Regency, and Victorian England.

Her stories delve deep into the hearts of strong-willed heroines who must navigate both the rigid social constraints of the British aristocracy and their own conflicting desires. Writing between Australia and Europe, Beverley draws on her own romantic history - having met her Norwegian husband while managing a safari lodge in Africa's Okavango Delta - to infuse her tales with authentic passion and adventure.

Through carefully researched historical detail and complex character relationships, she weaves stories where love blooms in unexpected places, and where passion and duty collide. Each novel combines the timeless appeal of historical Britain with psychological depth and emotional authenticity, creating an immersive experience where romance and personal growth intertwine against a backdrop of scandal, intrigue, and social transformation.

I enjoyed this book about an unorthodox woman and an unexpected Earl. The first part is their meeting at a house party and the passion that erupts between them. The second part becomes a bit of a mystery story. Everything is well set up. I only took one star off because it really needed a good proofreading for typos and incorrect words/names. I enjoyed it, though.

A well written regency romance and was quickly drawn in by the plot and the characters. I enjoyed the role reversal story and the chemistry between Henry and Tilly was spot on.

This is NOT the book The Gypsy And The Gentleman on the cover but rather the full text of a different book on same series.

The word the author chose to describe the FMC is an ethnic slur. Don’t support racism.

What an enthralling story where Henry and Tilly meet and fall in love in an unexpected way. There is plenty of intrigue and mischievous ladies a plenty with an unexpected twist.

    Great storytelling.
